Open the Q menu, go to the right set of tabs, press the "Options" tab and there should be a heading called "Visuals". Under this heading are Fog and Hiding. Click the hiding and you can choose to hide hoverballs, thruster effects, cameras and the physics gun beam. Hope this helped.
