In that issue, the Hulk beats the Thing ... again. If you haven't read it, I would suggest you pick it up if you can because Peter David is always a good read and any issue with the Hulk fighting the Thing is always worth reading!

Wolverine, outside of his regenerative ability, has the same physicality as an extremely well trained human. The Thing has never been remotely as strong as Hulk. It's always been established that he's not quite in the class of Hulk or Thor - he's closer to Collosus.

Umm if u ever read the comic books where the fight. The hulk always leaves the thing for dead. Except for when he was the grey hulk and the thing was suped up. on cosmic rays. The green hulk was stronger then the thing to begin with so is colosus or sasquatch. Its just the thing is tough hes only a lvl 5 1/2 to 6 max while the hulk starts of at lvl 7 to no limit.

You're way wrong on that. Hulk wasn't always as strong as he is now. Back in the days of the gray Hulk, him and Thing were pretty evenly matched except that Thing was smarter and had military training to augment his strength. The Hulk would just swing as hard as he could with no strategy or finesse at all. Also, how could Hulk hold back? Banner's mind was not in control of the Hulk in those early days. Holding back assumes control, which Banner did not have.

The Hulk was a complete savage at that time without even a glimmer of Banner's personality. In an alternate universe story, the Venom symbiote beat the Hulk by bonding with him and absorbing his power leaving only Banner behind when he left him to bond with Thor.

Actually grey Hulk has full access to Banner's brilliance, and Ben Grimm was only a test pilot.
All members of the military have to go through combat training regardless of what their actual job will be. Ben Grimm was in the Air Force and would have received such training. Dr. Banner was an academic and would be unlikely to have received similar training at any point in his career. And since when has grey Hulk had full access to Banner's mind? The original grey Hulk from the 1960's was never the sharpest pencil in the box, but only showed glimmers from time to time.

Hulk beats Thing. But, no way in hell Hulk could beat the FF. In fact few could if the Invisible Woman were used correctly. She could create a force field inside his brain and squish it. And if his brain is somehow invulnerable, she could put a force field round his head til his oxygen ran out. The others keep him busy while she did this. In fact this was done in the orginal FF #166. In fact in that issue, the Thing administered the coup de gras, knocking the oxygen depleted Hulk out.
@ertren6 See, the guy who writes the comic ultimately decides. But if you were to want to extract some realism out of the unrealism of comics, FF wins. Unless things have changed with the Hulk, he cant survive without air. The other members keep the Hulk busy while Invisible Woman cuts off his air supply. That would be the "real world". However, in comics, even Spiderman could be made, if so desired, no matter how illogical, to beat the Hulk..

This is pure physics and has nothing to do with the Hulks strength or huge capacity for oyygen. Ya see, the Invisisble women could wrap the force field so right into the hulks lungs! Also, she could do the same with the Hulks other vital processes. He isn't immune to his own biological processes!
@ertren6 On a side note, the Invisible woman is just too powerful if used correctly. She really can kill just about any hero or villan. A force expanded in someone's innards would destroy them instantly! Maybe the Hulks innards are made of the same stuff as his "outards" so maybe that wouldn't work on the Hulk, but shutting down his vital processes would and even the Hulk can fight against himself - or lack of his own processes - he still needs ATP, oxygen, GI processes like the rest of us..

If the Hulk, however, can live without oxygen, well, then I guess he truly is unbeatable and essentially an immortal.

@LeBearExtrordinare I see. This is not the same Hulk. Its not a Hulk I like. In fact, in browsing thru some comics, I don't like any of them. The characters all look too young. One of the great things about the older (pre 1985) comics is that they really tried and to a large extent succeeded (though not all the time) to keep the characters' powers the only thing unreal. The rest of the world was as real as a comic can get. There is none of that now and hasn't been prolly since the mid 80's.

The Thing has a steady rate of power and cannot get any weaker or stronger than what he is. But the bigger the beatings The Hulk takes, the stronger he becomes. If you beat on The Thing that hard, he doesn't get stronger, it just hurts him like Hell. Because The Hulk has ever-growing strength, this puts him in range of other heroes such as Thor while The Thing is like Colosus.
Hulk, if he ever really went all out, as in, no distractions, no love-interest butting in, no sudden emergence of Banner. Just the Hulk, versus the Thing. Thing would lose. I'm a Fantastic Four fan, but even I know that the only one that has a real chance in beating, or at least fighting the Hulk to eternity's end, is Wolverine.
I believe there is a comic that shows the Hulk being the last living thing on Earth. You can vaporize him, and he'll simply regenerate everything.

Great analogy. I believe the original strongman monster for Marvel comics, that being the Thing....deserves more respect as a Marvel strongman.....yet Ben Grimm always seems to lose to the Hulk.....Marvel is hung up on making the Hulk invincible. I hope the Hulk get's dethroned soon.

Umm if u ever read the comic books where the fight. The hulk always leaves the thing for dead. Except for when he was the grey hulk and the thing was suped up. on cosmic rays. The green hulk was stronger then the thing to begin with so is colosus or sasquatch. Its just the thing is tough hes only a lvl 5 1/2 to 6 max while the hulk starts of at lvl 7 to no limit.

The Hulk has beaten the Thing lots more than this latest slaughter. You seem to think that if it's not a counted-out victory, it's a tie. Nope. The Hulk has ALWAYS beaten the Thing. In fact long-time Hulk writer Peter David was aware of this fact when Hulk & Thing were talking to each other. Basically Hulk said to the Thing "Remember all those fights were used to have? I was going easy on you" rubbing his nose in it!

You're way wrong on that. Hulk wasn't always as strong as he is now. Back in the days of the gray Hulk, him and Thing were pretty evenly matched except that Thing was smarter and had military training to augment his strength. The Hulk would just swing as hard as he could with no strategy or finesse at all. Also, how could Hulk hold back? Banner's mind was not in control of the Hulk in those early days. Holding back assumes control, which Banner did not have.

As for me being wrong on the Hulk saying that he was "going easy on the Thing" during all the old fights, I am 100% correct - he said it - but if you have a problem with the quote feel free to contact comics writer Peter David, after all HE wrote the issue. As I wrote, the statement was said to rub Ben's nose in it. And, just so you know - I am a BIG fan of the Thing, one of the ALL TIME top three characters at Marvel.

Banner's mind was not always in control of the Hulk. There was a time when Dr. Strange banished the Hulk to a dimensional crossroads where he could search for an alternate world to live on where he could not hurt anyone. The Hulk was a complete savage at that time without even a glimmer of Banner's personality. In an alternate universe story, the Venom symbiote beat the Hulk by bonding with him and absorbing his power leaving only Banner behind when he left him to bond with Thor.

@gamewizard There was a time (In an FF crossover with the Hulk, so 2 comics) that the Thing had gained strength (and looked like a plated dinosaur), and Hulk was grey. Straight on, Hulk lost, but with jumping and nearly drowning the Thing, he did win, so I wouldn't say the THing is smarter. Actually grey Hulk has full access to Banner's brilliance, and Ben Grimm was only a test pilot.

All members of the military have to go through combat training regardless of what their actual job will be. Ben Grimm was in the Air Force and would have received such training. Dr. Banner was an academic and would be unlikely to have received similar training at any point in his career. And since when has grey Hulk had full access to Banner's mind? The original grey Hulk from the 1960's was never the sharpest pencil in the box, but only showed glimmers from time to time.

@gamewizard You need to re-read your Hulk comics. It has been mentioned more than once that he has access to Banner's genuis, but he hates Banner and wants rid of him, so he doesn't use it very often...please dont go by the 90's Hulk cartoon that makes grey Hulk look only 5% smarter than the green.

@Navy8674 - if you mean the issue that Hulk told Ben he was always going easy on him during their past brawls, it was issue 365 of Incredible Hulk. It was, if I remember correctly, part of a four issue run in IH that saw the Hulk poisoned (? - it's been so long since I read it, but I do clearly remember the Hulk-Grimm conversation).

Hulk beats Thing. But, no way in hell Hulk could beat the FF. In fact few could if the Invisible Woman were used correctly. She could create a force field inside his brain and squish it. And if his brain is somehow invulnerable, she could put a force field round his head til his oxygen ran out. The others keep him busy while she did this. In fact this was done in the orginal FF #166. In fact in that issue, the Thing administered the coup de gras, knocking the oxygen depleted Hulk out.

Unless things have changed with the Hulk, he cant survive without air. The other members keep the Hulk busy while Invisible Woman cuts off his air supply. That would be the "real world". However, in comics, even Spiderman could be made, if so desired, no matter how illogical, to beat the Hulk..

@ertren6 True, but only if he catches a good breath! Also, he has to contend with fighting the other members while he has no new oxygen; So his oxygen usage would burn up up to 10 times faster. This is pure physics and has nothing to do with the Hulks strength or huge capacity for oyygen. Ya see, the Invisisble women could wrap the force field so right into the hulks lungs! Also, she could do the same with the Hulks other vital processes. He isn't immune to his own biological processes!

@ertren6 On a side note, the Invisible woman is just too powerful if used correctly. She really can kill just about any hero or villan. A force expanded in someone's innards would destroy them instantly! Maybe the Hulks innards are made of the same stuff as his "outards" so maybe that wouldn't work on the Hulk, but shutting down his vital processes would and even the Hulk can fight against himself - or lack of his own processes - he still needs ATP, oxygen, GI processes like the rest of us..

@ertren6 It isn't an issue of crushing his lungs, its a matter of not being able to breathe. The Hulk needs Oxygen to breathe no? You make the Hulk sound immortal? And, there are 3 others to the FF. The Thing wouldn't be fighting him alone. Mr Fantastic would wrap around to keep him busy as well. Not to mention the Torch blinding the Hulk so he couldn't see. If the Hulk, however, can live without oxygen, well, then I guess he truly is unbeatable and essentially an immortal.

@ertren6 You know, this isn't the Hulk I grew up with. The Hulk I grew up with couldn't survive in space (I grew up reading comics in the 70's) and couldn't regenerate lungs or body parts. This new Hulk seems to be a god. Or close too it. I guess if he's that powerful, what's the point? If any character is that powerful, it makes no sense unless its to teach some philosophical lesson (a la Galactus). So, I guess you win, if the Hulk is a god, then I suppose you can't kill a god..

@LeBearExtrordinare I see. This is not the same Hulk. Its not a Hulk I like. In fact, in browsing thru some comics, I don't like any of them. The characters all look too young. One of the great things about the older (pre 1985) comics is that they really tried and to a large extent succeeded (though not all the time) to keep the characters' powers the only thing unreal. The rest of the world was as real as a comic can get. There is none of that now and hasn't been prolly since the mid 80's.

I personaly think it would be a tie because even though the hulk can beat the thing. the thing can also beat the hulk. so in the end they would both win and it would just depend on the situation and moment.

The Thing has a steady rate of power and cannot get any weaker or stronger than what he is. But the bigger the beatings The Hulk takes, the stronger he becomes. If you beat on The Thing that hard, he doesn't get stronger, it just hurts him like Hell. Because The Hulk has ever-growing strength, this puts him in range of other heroes such as Thor while The Thing is like Colosus.

Hulk, if he ever really went all out, as in, no distractions, no love-interest butting in, no sudden emergence of Banner. Just the Hulk, versus the Thing. Thing would lose. I'm a Fantastic Four fan, but even I know that the only one that has a real chance in beating, or at least fighting the Hulk to eternity's end, is Wolverine.
I believe there is a comic that shows the Hulk being the last living thing on Earth. You can vaporize him, and he'll simply regenerate everything.
