The hotel in which I believe you are referencing was the Rockingham Hotel, which was once located where the post office and gazebo are located now. This is the hotel which caught fire in the kitchen and subsequently the Towers. In addition, the Coast Guard House is a few steps away, not attached.
Hi Jim, I just wanted to clarify a few things in your video. First of all, the Towers was never a hotel. It was a "casino" and in those days meant "fun place" - there was never gambling. People from all around came to enjoy the courtyards, tennis courts, reading rooms, etc. It was also not the Mathewson Hotel, nor was it ever a hotel.
