  • I had a key to the church while I was in JH/HS and I'd go there Tuesday, Thursday and Monday and play, ...it made life bearable then. No piano at home there,..too small...damned folks and their so-called dreams, ..FOCUS on YOUR OWN!!

  • i enjoyed the deep stop-picking comtemplation part in the beginning. You play extremely well though...and you have a cool ringtone! I saw the re-recorded version of this and it was excellent. You have lots of talent!

  • Now, my ringtone is the Razorback Fight Song.

  • cute ending lol. You played really well, and have good taste in ringtones :p

Also, about how old is that organ?

  • haha

    Thanks.

I believe it was built in either 1982 or 1981.

  • very nicely performed

  • Same here, if I can't help make this happen, I'd be glad too.

  • Rees, Would you consider recording "O God, Beyond All Praising (or in England it is called "I Vow To Thee My Country). It is the Jupiter part of Gustav Holst's Planets. thankyou.

  • I would, but I don't own a good harmonization to it. And it's not in either of my hymnals.

I'll check one of my teachers next time I go practice.

  • Thank you and I look forward maybe to hearing you play it. Are you checking out different schools of music for further study?

  • No. Should I be yet?

  • It's just a thought. I don't know how old you are, so maybe I'm premature in asking this question. It's just I think you have a lot of talent and music school would be a good way of developing it further. Heck..maybe you don't even want to get into music at all...maybe you just want to play as a hobby. Thanks for all the good postings.

  • Yes. The waiting lists are incredible. I've already had to tour 4 schools that i want to apply to just so i could get in on time if i got accepted.

  • Which schools did you tour?

  • Julliard, Peabody, Eastman, Brigham-Young, and Susquehanna.

  • I live in Rochester and went to the Preparatory Department at Eastman for composition. What did you think of it? Did you get to see the new organs at Christ Church and Sacred Heart Cathedral?

  • I loved the school but i didn't see any of the churches.

  • Wow..I would have thought you would at least get a tour of some of the churches with good organs. EROI (Eastman Rochester Organ Initiative) wants to make Rochester into a sort of organ capital of the world. Did you at least get to Java Joes on Gibbs Street, along side of Eastman? Many students and professors go their for coffee and chat. Good luck I hope you go to Eastman.

  • I did get to Java Joe's lol. Good coffee. lol. I want to get into Eastman, Peabody, or Indiana U DESPERATELY.

  • All are really good music schools. I believe Eastman sets itself apart by getting organist ready to be concert organists, not just church organist. Not that there is anything wrong with church organist. There is a good spirit among Eastman students. Plus right across the street is the Sibley Music Library, probably the best music library in the world. Did you just have a look-see or did you audition too?

  • I had to audition to get put onto the waiting list. I nailed it so Eastman is definitely a possibility for me.

  • Oh man great news. What did you play? Did you play it on the VD organ...hahahaha...that stands for VanDaalen in Schmitt Hall. Did you meet David Higgs, he's chairman of the dept. Did you post what you played? Do you live a long ways from Rochester? That's always a factor for going to school.

  • I auditioned on a 4 manual Rodgers, I didn't get to meet him, I did not make any videos that day, and I liver 4 hours away from Rochester.

  • Well I'm happy for you anyways. If location is a factor, then considering you're 4 hours away from Rahchacha (as some natives call it), you could be west, east or south, north would put you in Lake ONtario. Well what ever, Rah-chister is much less expensive than Baltimore. Not sure about Indiana. but it is freakin cold here in winter. lots of lake effect weather. keep me updated. thanks a lot. ciao!

  • I live in Pennsylvania so I know how the winters are. lol. Indiana is my number 1 choice. My significant other is also going to major in classical organ and his first choice is Indiana. We've been 600 miles apart for 2 years and by the time college comes that number will double. So, where we end up is in fate's hands.

  • I don't know about it being in "fate's hands". You actually will have a lot of say so in the mtter. Anyways if you are now 600 miles apart and that will double...that's pretty severe. I was in Scranton recently for ordinations at St. Peter's Cathedral. You ever play there?

  • I meant the number of years would double, not the number of miles. And I live just outside of Scranton. I have played at St Peter's. I'm not particularly fond of their organ.

  • The organ seems weak, if lack of a better term. I don't know what it lacks, but it lacks a lot. Beautiful cathedral though.

  • The stoplist is puny at best. No 32s,only 2 16s in the pedal, VERY weak reeds, tinny mixtures, bad principals, NOT Casavant's finest instrument.

  • Thanks for the info on the Crashavant. It sounded very wonky to me. My friend plays at St. Patrick's in NY..OMG...freakin amazingly well-maintained organ. She was also organist at Sacred Heart in Newark...YIKEEEESSSS. Have u played either of these?

  • I have not played either of those organs. I would KILL to get my hands on the Kilgen of St Patricks though.

  • I would be glad to help intermediate for you. She's a really kind, nice person. It shouldn't be a prob.

  • I will let you know the next time I'll be in NYC. Thank you so much!

  • S'notta problem. She also has a program on Sirius Radio every MOnday called Sounds from the Spires. It's on at 1 p.m.

  • your going to have to get me in touch with your friend, if I'm ever in NYC!!!

  • I would have to agree!!!!!!!!!!

  • I'm pretty sure that wouldn't be a problem. She is a great organist and a extremely kind person.

  • Eine Kliene Handymusik.

    :)

  • Don't let it get you. You did extremely well. After all you were working with two technologies - first an instrument whose history goes back ages - second a technology that's around 30 years old.

    You handled both well.

    Cheers - Cecil

  • Austin organ? Or just an Austin console?

  • An Austin organ. Universal windchests and all.

  • Haha, I could tell from the way the console sounds when you select stops..... Austin's don't sound bad..... but I'm not a fan of their consoles

  • LOL What an ending there, octavebasse! One may have thought you had a strange sounding Zimblestern that suddenly ciphered until you answered it. Happened to me during an offeratory, but fortunately the phone was in my music bag so it was well muffled. Anyway, you played this hymn majestically and artistically - that is what matters. You absolutely need to get playing for church services and start getting paid handsomely for your talent.

  • i love your playing, keep posting

  • Looks like you found your true calling!

  • I guess I have.

  • and as always, fine playing.

  • At least this happened while you were practicing and not during a service. THAT has happened to me and trust me, it can be really embarassing.

  • oh my God lol. The same thing happened to me last Sunday during my postlude! I release the final chord of Karg-Elert's Now Thank We All Our God, and my phone blasts the intro to "Eye of the Tiger" across the whole church! Until your phone went off, you played well though.

  • LOL!!

  • Was it Jesus calling?
