Strats have always had a singing quality unmatched by their Les Paul counterparts (which for the record I think the more appropriate comparison on a basis of chronology, styling, sound and playability is between the Strat and the SG, and the Tele and the Les Paul). I dunno, Most players that are innovators in my book have played Fender. I think If the world of guitars were like the force Gibson would be the dark side, but that doesn't mean sith lords don't have abilities jedi's dont (LIGHTNING!)
Yeah they're totally different instruments and veriety is what music is all about. I personally enjoy the feel and sound of Stratocasters but everybody's different. they're really not comparable.
it all depends on what you want your sound to be...now you cant really play doom metal with a strat now can you? Or maybe you can...who knows? Its all about what you wanna sound like...both guitars are awesome.
Really? What a bunch of crapola. It's a good thing Django didn't wait for Leo n Lester to catch up. Good grief, as if we don't have enough to divide us.
Really? What a bunch of crapola. It's a good thing Django didn't wait for Leo n Lester to catch up. Good grief, as if we don't have enough to divide us.
DON'T BUY INTO THIS YUPIE BULLSHIT......... I MAY SIDE WOHT FENDER MORE BUT I TOTALLY DISAGREE WITH ALL THE YUPPIES WHO STARTED BUYING THESE GUITARS AND RUINED FOR ALL THE REAL PLAYERS WHO ACTUALLY PLAY IN BANDS..... INSTEAD OF AL THESE 40-50 YEAR OLDS GOING THROUGH A MID LIFE CRISIS AND NEED TO FEEL YOUNG.
There is no competition at all. Both are great. When i need a soft tender blues i pickup a gibson. Hardrock idem. But for rough and biting tones i pick up the strat. Strat however is more divers qua tone possibilities. For the whole spectrum you need both.
In 1978 I bought a LP Copy because I could'nt afford a Gibson. In 2009 I finally got a real Gibson LP and I love it. I still have the copy and love it too however.
love em both!!! leo and les, god rest their souls, were true american pioneer geniuses!!! they should be revered like newton, tesla!! but don't play your gretsch first, or else you'll let both of them sit for the rest of the night!!! the two greatest and most popular guitars on the planet!! i personally own both (don't play your gretsch first. try it, just not on your big hendrix / cream tribute night!!!) play on, my brothers and sisters
Both are great instruments and I never do a studio session without one of each: Les Paul, Strat, and Tele... Very greatful for the voice all of these guitars have given so many.
I started on a Strat and then I heard Cream. I went out and bought a Les Paul, then an SG and 335, used the neck pickup with tone to 0, thinking it'd make me Clapton. I did most of my learning on those guitars but something was missing. I went back to the Strat and all of a sudden I was able to express the music I felt inside. Strats are consistent whereas Gibsons are VERY hit and miss guitar to guitar. I do like Gibson but LOVE Fender. You can get a topline Strat cheaper than a Standard LesPaul
maybe i'm just a fender fan but i could never get along with a les paul and i've tried 12 of them, even a 1959 les paul. Gibson acoustic though are second to none. maybe martin.
The Fender Stratocaster is one of the most popular american industial designs. WIth Gibson there is no variety in the tone. look at Fender... The stratocaster, Telecaster, Jazzmaster, Jaguar, Mustang,.......very different between them. Fender has bought some much innovation to electric guitar.
Gibsons may have the fancy look, but in terms of sound gibsons are overrated. strats and teles are straight up electric guitars no bull shit. that whole "burst" thing everyone talks about with Gibsons is kinda Fu-Fu.
this is insulting! I guess you don't even know what we're talking about! This guitars are different, it's impossible comparing them.don't spit on gibson or you haven't understood a f*
I own both and love em both. I had the Fender Strat first as it was more within a teens budget at the time. Its a good guitar and has some real nice sounds. The Gibson Les Paul has some killer tones that I love. I've played copies and guitars made by other companies that were good too. Some Squires and epiphones are almost as good in sound. Great if your starting out or on a budget. Stay away from real cheap copies of both. It has to be playable and stay in tune. Good Luck.
always loved the les paul best....,having said that if i had tho money for a real gobson....id probably buy a japanese tpotkai and spend the rest on coke n' whores lol
fenders have the level of playability that i need, but the pickups don't sound great.. gibson on the other hand has some playability on the 60's slim tapers and incredible tone. IMO gibsons my way to go.
Fender strat Headstocks were copied from Bigbsy guitar. Also Hendrix did use gibson guitars and fenders the same. Just famous photos and videos showed him with fenders.
Fender and Gibson guitars are so different, both in sound and in body style, that they can't even be compared. Anyone who tells you that one is better than the other is just stating their preference. Great riffs have been laid down (and will continue to be laid down) using both guitars. Whether it's Buddy Holly and Hendrix with their strats or Jimmy Page and Slash with their Les Pauls, both of these instruments have contributed greatly (and equally) to modern music.
Fuck both Gibson and Fender! Their guitars are just as good or bad as any other good manufacturer! But they dare to sell theirs for a fortune, just by slapping a "Custom Shop" sign on them...
why would someone pay $2,000 for a fender it has a bolt on neck, single coil pickups, and a floating tremelo its just a cheap looking guitar. Gibson are the way to go
im a gibson, but i realy respect fender, i think that for som reason when you pick up your first guitar and have no idea how to play, just strumming random notes, thats when somthing decides for you, i think you can live your whole life playing a gibson and be a fender person, or vise versa, i think that no one should argue about which one is better, if you have never played a fender,or vise versa, go out and play one, it may just be the guitar that makes you famous
i started off with a strat copy and got a mexican strat later on, but then i got a Gibson les paul classic and i didn't play it for a while. I didn't even want to play it cause i didn't think i was good enough to play it. It reallie made me focus on what i was playing and showed me that i had to play my emotions thru the guitar and not to thrash away at it. Mainly cause of the toggle switch and the fat body lol. But it totaly worked and now i'm alot better and even feel better when i play but.
I play Gibson and Fender. Throughout my career I have owned 4 Fender Stratocasters, 1 Fender Telecaster and 6 Gibson Les Pauls. The Fenders sound amazing; they have an awesome open, twangy sound. But, when I plug a Les Paul into my Marshall amp, I get goosebumps. There isn't another instrument in the world that contains so much power and beauty!
I have a 59 reissue burst and a 63 reissue 335 and although I love Gibsons fenders do not sustain like a banjo! Get a nitro finished strat, 57 reissue, eric Johnson model or a custom shop one and stick a few bare knckle pickups in there, wow!! I went off strats for years but when you get a good one there's nothing like it!
I love Fenders and Gibsons. (I lean more towards the Gibsons). But I gotta admit Paul Reed Smith sho' makes a nice guitar too! Go check out some of my guitars on my video "My guitars".
Ahhh...Ted McCarty. Where do ya think Paul learned all about the old Gibson electrics? Paul really did do his homework. But to be honest...I could never get the right sound out of my PRSs. Not like my Les Pauls and Strats. Right out of the box you plug those two in and they're ready to roll!

Both are exquisite works of art. And so it boils down purely to personal taste.
I'd take the Les Paul anyday.
But then again I'd also choose a Jose Ramirez nylon-string over a Conde Hermanos and a Martin acoustic over a Taylor.
Pure question of taste.
