I'm sorry for this question... Why does the VW Group refer the USA diesel versions as Clean Diesel? Those same cars exist here in Europe and the fuel is simply called diesel. Of course, diesels are far more popular here, but still, is it just a trademark for the US market?
@efusiongaming The term "clean diesel" is used by the auto manufacturers (not just VW) to bring attention to the drastically reduced emissions (particulate, nox, c02) in the current range of diesel engines. It's a marketing term coined to help change the public's perception about diesel.
Really? I'm able to get diesel fuel in a few places in the Seattle and Tacoma (Washington) area, but not in places like Ellensburg or Spokane, which are further east.
I love the idea of diesel, and I'd buy one if it were available here in the USA. Unfortunately, the USA govt. refuses to let us buy diesel powered cars, much less provide filling stations equipped to provide diesel fuel! Now why the hell is that?
The A6 TDI isn't available here yet, but the clean diesel invasion is well underway. We've tested and posted reviews on the US Spec Audi A3 and Q7 TDIs, BMW 335d, and VW Jetta Sportwagen TDI. (In the midst of testing a Golf TDI this week and it's a blast to drive.)
Diesel fuel availability isn't the problem that some folks make it out to be ...
i want to correct you, (DIESEL) Common Rail engine and injection pumps engines are direct injection .
Common Rail is more like gasoline engine(but with much more pressure) with fuel line with injector attached ,they open with the ecu command (solenoid valve).
however the injection pump delever high pressure diesel to each one of injectors ,the injector opens mechanically due the pressure.

I know it's beyond unrealistic in the US, but...
An Audi A6 Avant TDI with a manual transmission would probably be the most perfect car ever made. We can only dream I suppose

@Seattlecarnut I think it is because the gas companies would doe much less money because diesel powered cars are more eficien
pimpaloidas 10 months ago
@pimpaloidas Make less money? The cost of diesel fuel is more than that of gasoline, you'd think they'd make more money.
