dude, nice tones. Just ordered one off've ebay (secondhand, I can't afford anything from your website in first hand good condition at this moment unfortunately, extremely sorry). But yeah, I appreciate all of your videos so much, I promise you I will someday make a big load of pedal purchases, including a rotovibe and some volume pedal and possibly a Malekko 616 analog delay :D Anyway, love your videos. Keep 'em coming.
@handmajor - Wahs and fuzz pedals often don't get along. You might try a newer Fulltone Clyde, RMC, or another wah with "fuzz-friendly" buffer circuitry built-in. Thanks!
@handmajor Yeah beware - to get this thing to work right, it pretty much needs to be number 1 in your chain. I have a cry baby and it doesn't play well with the FF haha
which one do you have? but i don't think you'll get the same sound. probably some slightly similar. you need the stab knob and comp knob for these crazy sounds. my fuzz factory arrives just a few days ago and it's absolutly worth the money ;)
if I have a zvex fuzz factory, which is a pedal that must be first in the chain, and the mxr blue box, that has an octave component, where should I put the mxr blue box? will it tracks well being after the fuzz factory? or will the fuzz factory sounds good after the blue box??
So there isn't a difference between the vexter series and the original fuzz factory? The tones and controls are all the same, just a different paint job? The price difference between the two just seems odd with only the paint job being different
@wilco6565 - This is true. The Vexters have the same guts and enclosure, but with silk-screened graphics. Hand-painting a pedal is pretty labor intensive actually, and Mr. Vex compensates his artists very fairly. The benefit of the hand-painting is that you not only get a rad fuzz pedal, you also get a unique piece of art. Thanks!
Love the video, thanks for the upload! Just one quick question, are you running any kind of sustainer at and around 5:04 for those oscillation sounds? Or is that all from the ZVex?
so anyone who knows what they are talking about feel free to answer...Which is better for a guitarist buying there first fuzz pedal.....Wooly Mammoth or Fuzz Factory...and if you don't mind please explain why =)
@TREDEUCETRL32 I would probably buy the fuzz factory since it's made for guitar and more flexible than the mammoth, you can get fuzz face like sounds as well as big muff sounds (if your not afraid of the oscillation)
I have never tried a mammoth but i do own a Mastotron and i've heard that they sound almost the same. I'd go with the fuzz factory because of the flexibility and awesome tone :)
@oberfiesling - The paint job is the only difference. Vexter series have screen-printed graphics, as opposed to the hand-painted graphics of the standard model FF. The electronic guts and sound are the same. Thanks!
Hey! My pedalboard is: Dunlop Crybaby 535q wahwah, ibanez tubescreamer ts9 vintage, proco rat II, noise suppresor boss ns2, line6 dl4 delay... where should i put the Zvex fuzz in the chain? Thanks!
@ferchomdo61 Try it before or after your wah, depending on how crazy you like the FF to sound! There is no right or wrong way but the sound will vary. Good luck,
@ferchomdo61 if you put the wah before the fuzz the wah will act more as a boost with a light sweep. If you put the wah after the fuzz, the wah will have a wider sweep but youll lose volume when its on..
I have one and love it. I can get a different sound from it each time I play it. Takes some getting used to. The Vexter ones aren't too expensive used
i bought one like two weeks ago and it arrive today (because i live far from US)
its incredible, you always can avoid oscillation turnig drive/stab down and some of the settings even with the stab all the way up it doesnt ocillate atleast for me it ocillates when i want. the tone is awesome
So this is exactly the same as the hand painted version then, i fail to see why anyone would want to pay $120 more for the same thing but hand painted, you can do that yourself for next to nothing
@HitmanJenkins1 the components of the hand-painted are higher quality and the hand-painted is hand built (or at least they use to be) but for all intents and purposes, the vexter is just as good, its made with a little less care, but I own one and have owned the original and there is no demonstrable difference. I would recommend to have another more tame predictable fuzz on your board with this. pedal changes all the time, but if you are just going for something wild, its perfect
The word 'warm' is one of the most abused terms as far as music goes. As usual in music, anything older than something else is automaticalled called 'warm' or 'warmer' for no good reason, the majority of the time this is complete bullshit. There is a very stupid attitude in music that means people automatically say anything older is better.
@AbandonedMind - The forums are incorrect ( surprise, surprise ). We've done considerable side-by-side comparison between hand-painted and Vexter series FF's, and heard no discernible difference between the two. Same guts, different graphics. Don't judge the pedal by the paint-job.
Hey - thinking of buying this pedal, but just wondering what the difference is between this one and the green one? Is the other one just hand painted?
wait.. so all ure worrying about is aesthetics...well since u asked. the green one isnt as good of a rocket propelled dildo but this is like the dr. johnson intimidator mark 2.

OMG ITS NOT HAND PAINTED HOW CAN I POSE?!?!?!?! OMGFG T3h HAXORZZZZzzzzZZZzZZzZ
Hey Proguitarshop, an excellent demo as usual, i was wondering before i buy this pedal, whats the difference between the z vex normal pedal and the newer series pedal. Thanks alot!
i just got my fuzz factory vs today and i LOVE it. its totally what i've been looking for. it's the holy grail of fuzz boxes.. you can happily spend hours trying different knob positions, fooling around with the ff. although you say fuzz is best used with sc, you can get some awesome sounds with a humbucker guitar like gibson sg. kudos for the awesome review, thats how i've learned about the vexter series, and since i dont have much money i really appreciate this.(so DOES my band ;))
@ChrisieBear14 either play, cause the squealing "tries" to overcome the sound of you playing. as mentioned in the vid. or you play around with the comp and gate knobs. just experiment. this pedal wont make you happy unless you're eager to experiment and play around with the knob positions to find your favorite sound.
At the beginning of plug in baby he uses the built in fuzz factory on his guitar, but after playing around with my own fuzz factory I'm pretty sure what hes playing around with are the compression knob with the gate turned to the left. You play one note and then mess with those and it sounds pretty cool
hi i'm thinking of getting a fuzz factory mainly becaus ei heard matt bellamy from muse uses one and i wanted to know how do you get the effects that bellamy uses at the begining of the HAARP version of plug in baby
@aququa - We've had the same experience. We've found that the Fuzz Factory reacts differently, often in a more "well behaved" manner, when it sees a buffered input signal. If you have other buffered pedals in your signal chain, this is likely the issue. We would try moving the FF around in your pedal lineup, perhaps at the beginning, so it receives an unbuffered input signal directly from your guitar. Hope that helps. Thanks!
@ProGuitarShopDemos - alright thanks a lot! I'll try moving it around my pedals' chain. I own an electro harmonix 'knockout EQ'. when i turned it off, FF WILL squeal. it's a good idea to put it at the beginning of the chain.
great demo, but im considering buying this, and i think this is the same fx tht matt bellamy from muse has built into his guitar so can you do all the squeals and stuff like from muse songs??
As long as you know how to use it (i.e. generate the correct oscillations) you'll be able to do all the squeals, sirens and decays from Muse songs. The only problem is, Matt has this built into his guitar, so he can oscillate remotely, whereas you'll have to bend down to adjust the stab and gate. Nevertheless, it's well worth the money, and it's a brilliant pedal whether you love Muse or not.
I used to use this pedal on stage but the pedal had too much oscilation with a 100 watt amplifier, and the people who were listening would hear nasty spikes. People told me that the sound of the pedal was too noisy. So I only used this pedal on my 40 watt amp at home, and use my Little Big Muff Pi on stage.
How well does the volume knob work? I have a Fender Frontman amp, and the volume on that is very shifty for playing quietly. It's really difficult to keep quiet. Does this pedal provide decent volume control?
I noticed that there is also a Vexter Fuzz Factory with black and green graphics. Is there just a diference between the looks, or do they sound different too?
Hi, I've realised that there is a price difference between the Vexter Series and Fuzz Factory but yet all the functions of the pedals are the same. Why is this?
hi i recently bought a the vexter fuzz factory and was very satisfied but i have one problem with it (not even sure its an actual problem with the pedal) when i do a bend and substaine for more than a couple of seconds it glitchs out and the volume dies. this is the setting on the pedal where i found it more pronounced (vol 10 gate 2 comp 9 drive 5 stab 10 ) the rest of my gear is a vox ac15c1 and a standard american strat (vol maxed /neck tone around 7 and bridge at 6).
@d3athfromabove - When it dies out mid-note like that it's the gate kicking in. Try rolling back the gate a bit, and experimenting with the compression level. Should give you a longer sustain. Thanks!
i was wondering how the tone knob of the guitar would influence the squels and oscillations, espacially if one could influnce these with the tone and volume knob of the guitar?
what is the difference between the regular line of Zvex FF and the Vexter series? Any tonal differences that you know of? Thanks! Great demo BTW......
@ProGuitarShopDemos Thing about that is, you can also handpaint some graphics on it if you REALLY really wanted the graphics. Personal pedal. It would work.
@bennie1548 Well, just like all pedals you just set it and play. There are rare occasions when you actually manipulate a pedal (other than a wah of course) mid-song.
@bigmike00831 - It can definitely do some distortion-type sounds, but they tend towards warm and fuzzy. You'd probably still want to hang onto your DS-1 if you want a more modern chunky tone.
Fuzz probe is good for theremin effects, but basically if the intensity of the effects is set to max, you can use it all the same as a fuzz factory, true?
i have one unit of this, just same like in this video, buy it from ebay..for some people thinking to buy this, just buy,its really worth the money! sound too great for a fuzz pedal..damn i love this pedal, and i buy it purposely to cover muse songs when jamming =p
@19ZoSo93 yes. if you hit the button the sound goes away and you can play clean. and if you step on the switch 3 times really fast it actually breaks all the strings on your guitar resulting in you losing an eye.
dear Proguitarshop!! how do you record these clips, what microphone is used? is there any compression on the signal? i'm really interested because this one sounds thanks amazing!
@kriszpaul - We use a Royer R121 on the cab and a Shure KSM27 in the room. No compression on the track, just a couple dB of limiting on the master buss from the L2 Ultramaximizer.
@osblablabla - Have a look at the manual and some of the settings we use in the vid. ZVex also has a good demo on his site. There are plenty of "safe" normal fuzz settings with no squealing. You will need to master the use of the gate, comp, and stab knobs. They are highly interactive.
Citizen Erased please :)

Can I use power supply cables I use for Boss pedals (9vDC) for this pedal? Also, does it have a LED light confirming whether it's off or not?

@gigglegigggle Yes and Yes.

Also, how well does this thing work with humbuckers and P-90's?
robosteven 1 year ago
How well does the volume knob work? I have a Fender Frontman amp, and the volume on that is very shifty for playing quietly. It's really difficult to keep quiet. Does this pedal provide decent volume control?

Hey Andy
I noticed that there is also a Vexter Fuzz Factory with black and green graphics. Is there just a diference between the looks, or do they sound different too?

@ivoguitars93 Jep, just the looks, the expensive one is hand painted, this one isnt. That's all

Hi, I've realised that there is a price difference between the Vexter Series and Fuzz Factory but yet all the functions of the pedals are the same. Why is this?
MegaLindt 1 year ago
What a sexy sound.

hi i recently bought a the vexter fuzz factory and was very satisfied but i have one problem with it (not even sure its an actual problem with the pedal) when i do a bend and substaine for more than a couple of seconds it glitchs out and the volume dies. this is the setting on the pedal where i found it more pronounced (vol 10 gate 2 comp 9 drive 5 stab 10 ) the rest of my gear is a vox ac15c1 and a standard american strat (vol maxed /neck tone around 7 and bridge at 6).
d3athfromabove 1 year ago
@d3athfromabove - When it dies out mid-note like that it's the gate kicking in. Try rolling back the gate a bit, and experimenting with the compression level. Should give you a longer sustain. Thanks!

@ProGuitarShopDemos thx a ton you guys are amazing!
d3athfromabove 1 year ago
great demo, as always with pgs!
i was wondering how the tone knob of the guitar would influence the squels and oscillations, espacially if one could influnce these with the tone and volume knob of the guitar?
thx

what is the difference between the regular line of Zvex FF and the Vexter series? Any tonal differences that you know of? Thanks! Great demo BTW......
mrtonebone 1 year ago
@mrtonebone - Thanks! No tonal differences. Same quality guts and construction, just screen-printed graphics on the Vexter rather than hand-painted.
ProGuitarShopDemos 1 year ago
@ProGuitarShopDemos Thing about that is, you can also handpaint some graphics on it if you REALLY really wanted the graphics. Personal pedal. It would work.
TheLoneAdvocator 1 year ago
can you get fuzz face tones with this thing?? long sustain and heavy distortion is what im looking for
teddy15picker 1 year ago
When playing live would this pedal be hard to use because you'd have to constantly adjust with your hands?
bennie1548 1 year ago
@bennie1548 Well, just like all pedals you just set it and play. There are rare occasions when you actually manipulate a pedal (other than a wah of course) mid-song.

i feel very stupid asking this but does this pedal double as a distortion pedal or should i buy this and keep useing my ds1 for distortion?
bigmike00831 1 year ago
@bigmike00831 - It can definitely do some distortion-type sounds, but they tend towards warm and fuzzy. You'd probably still want to hang onto your DS-1 if you want a more modern chunky tone.
ProGuitarShopDemos 1 year ago
@ProGuitarShopDemos thanks for the tip
bigmike00831 1 year ago
Might not be a good place to ask this...
Fuzz probe is good for theremin effects, but basically if the intensity of the effects is set to max, you can use it all the same as a fuzz factory, true?
Ch1nGFuX2 1 year ago
i have one unit of this, just same like in this video, buy it from ebay..for some people thinking to buy this, just buy,its really worth the money! sound too great for a fuzz pedal..damn i love this pedal, and i buy it purposely to cover muse songs when jamming =p
irwan86 1 year ago
How do you get those great screechy noises in 5:20-5:40? And do you have to have your amp really loud to do that?
Alienpelvis86 1 year ago
@Alienpelvis86 - The FF will do that at any volume if you have the knobs in the right spot.
ProGuitarShopDemos 1 year ago
i saw a similar zvex fuzz factory but it was painted green, is there any difference?
hondansx1000 1 year ago
@hondansx1000 The only difference is one is silk screened (Vexter version) and one is hand painted (green). The Vexter is much lower in price.

If my guitar is plugged into this, i can still play on clean if i hit the button right?
In other words, is thing always on or is there a way to bypass it?
Sorry but im a super noob.
19ZoSo93 1 year ago
@19ZoSo93 Yes...
AlexSongDoesCovers 1 year ago
@19ZoSo93 yes. if you hit the button the sound goes away and you can play clean. and if you step on the switch 3 times really fast it actually breaks all the strings on your guitar resulting in you losing an eye.
Snowblind333 1 year ago
dear Proguitarshop!! how do you record these clips, what microphone is used? is there any compression on the signal? i'm really interested because this one sounds thanks amazing!
kriszpaul 1 year ago
@kriszpaul - We use a Royer R121 on the cab and a Shure KSM27 in the room. No compression on the track, just a couple dB of limiting on the master buss from the L2 Ultramaximizer.

I have this pedal and I love it but the squeaks although cool at first are such a bitch to avoid sometimes. I'll get the hang of this one day lol.

Does the vexter series fuzz factory need the ac adaptor or can it work while only being connected to the guitar and amp?
zedaabelheira 1 year ago
@zedaabelheira it can operate on 9v battery as well
TehAl3X 1 year ago
i recently got one of these. but it makes so much feedback... its horrible! is that normal??!
osblablabla 1 year ago
@osblablabla - Have a look at the manual and some of the settings we use in the vid. ZVex also has a good demo on his site. There are plenty of "safe" normal fuzz settings with no squealing. You will need to master the use of the gate, comp, and stab knobs. They are highly interactive.
