  • Both are awesome cars, but it should come as no surprise that the one with more displacement and less weight (also no back seat) would be better for all out acceleration (from a dig or roll ons)

    This coming from a person who has owned 2 M3's and driven several Corvettes, the C5 Z06 is one of my favorite cars I have ever driven, period. (the interiors are shit compared to the M3, but that's not the point of the 'Vette. They aren't luxury cars, they are made for speed, nothing else)

  • Both cars are great, but to shut up the Corvette haters and M3 haters a little bit... these cars were built to do different things in different parts of the world. With some minor suspension mods that C5 can keep up with the M3 in the twisties, and with some minor performance mods to the engine that M3 can hang with the Vette in a straight line. Vettes and M3's are great cars, quit arguing about which one is better, pissing into the wind gets a better result.

  • I own a 2004 Corvette and a 2008 M3. I love both cars, but the vette gets alot more attention, and smokes my M3. M3 is still a nice ride though.

  • just sold my 2010 m3 convertible, to be honest all you pay for is the name, its not a good looking car and the interior is plain boring. the only good thing about it is the double clutch noise it makes. id prefer a corvette to a m3 when you pay £60k+ you dont get shit for your money. £10k+ for a corvette turns more heads. corvette stands out more, bmw need a new design team as their cars are going downhill when it comes to looks. best m3's were the e30's and e36's.....

    E46 M3 was in deed the best M3. But it really depends on where you are when people generally appreciate your car more than the other car. In California, a M3 will turn more heads than a Vette. I guess it's true since Hollywood has a lot of influence on BMW or German luxury cars.

Saying the M3 isn't an icon is like saying Star Wars wasn't that great of a movie series. I'm American, I've owned a Corvette, their great cars, a little cheaply made, but incredibly fast, I actually just sold my Corvette 6 months ago. The M3 is also a very iconic sports car, especially the original E30. Both cars are great, and bashing each other over which ones best is stupid.

  • @jgsmitty14 While the Corvette may be much cheaper, price wise, than other cars, you have to remember. BMW and Mercedes are refined European cars, Europe is a different continent. America's roots are the rough, screaming metal death traps of muscle cars (which isn't a bad thing!). Europeans, and me as a personal preference, enjoy the refined qualities, you don't buy a Corvette to daily drive and pick your kid up from school.

Mickey tomson drag radials he had a stick shift not bad for my 10 thousand dollar vette against his 70 thousand dollar m3

  • first off, the m3 is my favorite car. and i fully admit that the vette was the clear winner here. the m3 has technology but the vette still has a 5.7 liter v8 compared to a 4.0 which is a big difference (about 42%). there is no shame in losing in a straight line against a bigger engine, not to mention it is made of fiberglass. but i get most ppl here would still have an m3 because of its overall greatness and engineering. my respects for the vette but the m3 is a better car.

The basically stock 'vette was absolutely owning the M3....and that was just in a straight line. The stock '98 'vette is capable of hitting 180 mph, the boxy M3 will top out around 140-150. The stock '98 'vette will pull near 1g in the skidpad, the M3 is around .89g.  The M3 has a full back seat. HA!

  • @verano29 Stock vs. Stock an E92 M3 is quicker in a straight line than a C5 Corvette. A quick search for some reviews will reveal that. Of course the Vette is the better bang for the buck when you consider that it's over a decade old and has a small-block Chevy that has a million cheap performance parts out there. Neither car in this video was stock, and we know how the LS1 responds to mods. However the M3 is a MUCH nicer car to drive, and a much nicer place to sit.

  • True, they usually run low 13,s if you're lucky but I can hardly call headers, exhaust and clutch a heavily modded Vette. Heavily modded is when you talk about heads, cam, supercharger mods. Bottomline is I would have expected more from the 2008 M3.

  • While I agree with you that the mods on the vette are not significant, they obviously did a lot for the car. With a proper clutch he might have run 12.2, a far cry from a stock vette. The M3 with the mods it has should run low 12s also which makes sense from what we've seen here.

    Anyway, the M3 may be faster on the track but that wasn't the case here. I hear M3 owners bragging all day about walking all over C5's regardless of what race. And true, the mentioned mods are nice mods, but nothing special. I didn't say the C5 is stock, I said BASICALLY stock, with that I mean it isn't far away from being stock. It's about 1 second difference from stock in the 1/4 mile. Plus the M3 was modded too!!!

  • Considering that the M3 has 10x better build quality than the junk plastic interior of the vette, the fact that the M3 weighs 4-500 lbs MORE and has 1.7l LESS displacement than the vette, I think it did very well.

    Not to mention that the M3 can hold the family comfortably in it for a road trip and the corvette only fits 2, with a sore ass.

    Take them both to a track, and the vette will get used to seeing the M3's tail lights! :-)

    The base model M3 today is $78,000

    Paying 28,000 more for an M3 is beyond strictly acceleration, it comes to the interior, the luxury, the bells an whistles, the track potential etc... The fact is that the M3 offers far more than the corvette can, and that is why it costs more.

  • You're also comparing 2 completely differnet cars. For one, the M3 is down 1.7L of displacement and can comfortably seat 4 people! Also, this vette was a bit of a freak, ran 12.4 in the 1/4 mile with just the bolt ons and a slipping clutch.
