  • Pretty good! Now let's hear it on a gut-stringed instrument with the original separated bowings!

  • Amazing..such passion..you can feel it.

  • did anyone see the dog walk past the door? (12 seconds)

  • Sublime...du pur plaisir pour l'âme. Une réjouissance pour les oreilles.

  • Le chien s'est dit: "si y joue encore cette toune là, moi je vais prendre une marche". ;)

    Sérieusement c'est absolument magnifique.

    Bravo.

  • This left me speechless.

  • jeesus I got goosebumps from beginning to end =O Absolutley wonderful!!!

  • Brilliant, masterfully expressive performance!

  • OMG!!!!!

  • Whoa i like saw a huge shadow pass by the door it was da doggie 8D

    starts at 0:13

  • I play violin, this makes me wish I played cello!

  • Too idiosyncratic for my taste. After all, Bach did not live in the 19th century.

  • @knicklas48 what century are we in again?

  • @knicklas48 Bach belongs to the ages now.

  • I wonder how long it takes to learn that? It was great!

  • wow....that was amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I wish that I could do that. You played that beautifully

  • Just amazingly beautiful.

  • You are simply awesome !!!

  • such a wonderful warm tone! wonderful!

  • even better than Yo-Yo Ma's performence, amazing

  • Excuse my French but fucking well done....and will you marry me...

  • Beautiful.

  • q bonito toca me encanta bravo chico tienes un gran futuro para la musica exelente.....

  • I make faces too when I play my piano, my violin, or even video games, hahaha

  • I love your faces, hahaha, and you play so well! Great work! Keep it up!! {:-)

  • I am stumped on who i like better ofwgkta or bach

  • nice

  • @XxxRXPxxX

If you are such an expert on "chello", then how do you not even know how to spell it correctly? This boy really feels the music and is completely enveloped in it, he shows it through his body. Your friend is not the standard of cello playing, you shouldn't compare everyone to her.

P.S. This is the best rendition of the piece that I have ever heard, even better than Yo Yo Ma and Mischa Maisky. Amazing.

  • Good work. This is one of my favourite bach pieces. =)

  • Bravo!

  • @XxxRXPxxX... He is free to show feeling in music, I think it's a great to be able to feel and express emotion through playing music especially Bach. Almost all great "chelloist" do this.. <--- "Chelloist"... I know it's really cellist, just letting everyone know that.

  • @XxxRXPxxX... He is free to show feeling in music, I think it's a great to be able to feel and express emotion through playing music especially Bach. Almost all great "chelloist" do this..

  • @XxxRXPxxX... It's being free to feeling the music, I think it's a great to be able to feel and express emotion through playing music especially Bach. Almost all great "chelloist" do this..

  • simply AMAZING!!!! dude is like a fucking alien playing absolute poetry on the fucking strings!!!!!

  • goosebumps... damn...

  • Nice piece.. but what's up with the swaying back and forth? My friend plays chello too and she doesn't move side to side.

  • @XxxRXPxxX its something called feeling the music...absorbing yourself into the music...something that is beautiful to watch in my opinion

  • if i knew how to play like this, id have many more girlfriends. play this for a girl and the panties would drop nicely!!!

  • wow. thank you for this.

  • hi! i have a question. how many time i needed to play like him?

  • @CristianMacias123

years and years and lots of dedication. but most of all, talent and passion.

  • Stephane, I have been watching and listening to you now for a few years, and it is nice to listen to these earlier pieces, as it puts into perspective for me how much you have improved technically from then (at 15) compared to where you are now as a university student. As I look at all the praise for this performance, in truth, it pales in comparison to the work you put out today, so in that vein, your musicianship has simply become more refined and perfected over the years. Truly prodigious.

  • Wow!!! Im impressed, thank u so much for sharing ur passion, heart n soul with us

  • Is it just me or is he better than yo yo ma

  • Unbelievable musicianship..

  • a religious experience, believe me...you're amazing

  • 23 people have been added to my hitlist......

  • Absolutely beautiful!!! I did notice the dog in the door passing by. :)

  • Bravo!

  • your head is like a new-born's

  • they are just jealous because they cant play this good XD be proud of your work

  • I love you, And miss so much.

  • I have GOOSEBUMPS!!!!! That was incredible!

  • BRAVO I really like it and enjoy it!:D

  • smooth bowing

  • Yeah the sound is way too clear for this to be real.

    Remove for copyright infringement. imo.

  • @n00bMonkel it is very easy to mic something while recording with a video camera....

  • @PianoManToby I thought this was fake at first, but I watched him play debussy. He's incredibly expressive and probably the next cello prodigy. However, I still think that this was retouched or pre-recorded.

If you can hear the digitation, surely you would hear the dogs footsteps or other ambient noise.

  • @n00bMonkel haha well i guess we'll never know unless we ask him :P but if the mic is on the cello it shouldnt be picking up all those other sounds around him

  • Beautiful! <3 :) Good Job, well played

  • ummm she where he is playing... his fingerboard. not preferable but see the rosin marks??? ya. so he IS playing. and dude. with that kind of specific bowing and vibrato he HAS to be playing so stop falsely accusing someone who is probably better than you. But dude great job!

  • fake

  • If this was real then the audio wouldn't be so crystal clear this shit is so fake.

  • @Foodog5 Troll.

  • fake hes not even playing i play cello hes a load of shit

  • @Minecraftplayer84 If you look closely (0:00 - 2:49) you can quite clearly see the movement of his bow as well as his shifting to various positions on the fingerboard throughout the piece. You can quite easily distinguish from his shifting of positions, his vibrato, and his bowing that he is indeed playing and the piece that is listed in the video's title.

  • @Minecraftplayer84 You play the cello?! How come you assume that this is fake?!

  • Excellent. Simply excellent.

  • gives me goosebumps...

  • I feel that this is by far of all the versions that I have listened to, has got to be the best interpretation of all. So eloquently phrased and you can really listen to every note being played and the stress on the significant parts. Astounding. And you're only 15. Wow.

  • I've seen this piece performed over many years. Something about this vid doesn't seem right. The rocking back and forth and where his hands are, how low they go. The strange eye expression. I must be missing something but what is it?

  • @clubmidnightsun I don't know about you, but i guess i've always viewed cello as a very peaceful instrument, and for my kind of symbolized reflection. The motions he make kind of go against how i've personally classified the instrument to myself. Of course i could be wrong and i'm sure it's different for everyone, but i totally get what your talking about

  • Holy fuck that was simply bad ass. Far better then me. And I'm glad you have a passion for music, you can tell. Keep that up man.

  • Amazing! Bach and cello and your interpretation and musicality are amazing !

  • This guy's cute when he plays the cello. x) enjoying it thoroughly (:

  • class straight class, i cant wait till i get mine :)

  • Add 4 more people that were so overwhelmed with awe that they're hands were shaking violently and they pressed the thumbs down button accidently.Sorry for stealing that from you CaioBella 15,but I can't figure out why anyone would have a reason to thumbs down the performance. It must be that the piece was too short.

  • you are a truly amazing cellist. i wish i could like this 1 zillion times! i'm learning this piece but i'm no where near as good as you are! i love how much emotion you put into it. keep up the good work!

  • suteki desu♥

  • i dont believe there a SINGLE WORD in my vocabulary that can describe how awesome that was.... im still learning this piece and see i have a LOT to go before i can be anywhere near as good as you :D

  • nice sound! however, in parts, I miss the lightness I would expect from that piece. remove some of the pressure, in some places and just let it flow. keep it up and enjpy the cello!

  • very good but what up with the big sway at 0:04?

  • wow, really nice tone, very good bow technique

  • 2:25

  • brilliant work, note perfect

  • Very good!!!To be al ittle random:you look animated when you move about! :D keep it up!

  • I can't understand ppl dislike this I mean if you'd pressed on this video ur gonna like this , otherwise ur a retard and press on every video you see.. This is amazing I can play that song 2 tho no that fast and with sheets xD

  • really nice :) what cello are you playing on?

  • Very credible. Not bad for a kid.

  • You have a romantic, friendly soul, the love in you and the love for the music and instrument you are expressing, is obvious.Bach s music can be played in every musical era ,so its very ok to play this in the way you did, another time you could be more" barokish " I think. Thanks, pleasant to listen at!!

  • Bellisimo interpreteur. :)

  • Incredible.

  • I see and I hear and I feel that the music in in you, around you and comes out of you.

  • The best song of ever!!!!

  • i thought that was really good , though i noticed youre bowing more on the fingerboard when it needs to be much closer to the bridge, it makes a better sound overall. Good job though :) this song is really hard to play, but you nailed it.

  • C'est pas possible n'aimer pas cette interpretation...

  • lol i like the orgasm faces. But good job tho...I always wanted to play the cello

  • Inspiring!! Beautiful!!!

  • it looks kinda epileptic in some parts nice interpretation though. like

  • The dog was one of the dislikes...

  • amazing

  • Nice all around..great bow hand...Wish I had that...

  • Beautiful!!!!

  • People who thumbs down Bach will be dead soon enough. Bach, however, lives forever.

  • just amazing. finally, a person with passion for music. nice work

  • 13 people were so overwhelmed with awe that they're hands were shaking violently.....and they pressed the thumbs down button.. :(

  • @CaioBella15 Yes, while the 14th person was just being a jerk.

  • @CaioBella15 or the had their computers upside down

  • @CaioBella15 I love your interpretation on the psychology that makes people thumb down this video !!!

  • one of my fave songs

  • omg thats a lot of feeling! so beautiful... one word my friend: awesome!

  • brilliant!

  • This is so, so beautiful. I absolutely love this piece of music & it's giving me second thoughts about choosing the violin over the cello. I love the cello more but, the violin is more practical as it's portable. Argh!! So difficult to choose!

  • molto bene! je serai ravis d'ecouter quelques experiments dans l'articulation. :)

  • Nice work. BTW, look for the passing dog at 0:15.

  • @jeffreydlazar Haha the passing dog. Very random!

  • @jeffreydlazar holy cow that scared me at first. haha

  • very gooood!!

  • Hermoso!!! magnifique!!

  • Parabéns ! Grande Violoncellista !!! Bravo Bravo ! Bravo !!

  • Too much dancing, but sounded really great.

  • @jakarebr

Jacqueline du Pré dances more. If she stops dancing her music would die.

  • @jakarebr Just, don't even go there when you don't even know what passion in music is.

  • @jakarebr He could stand on his head and play with his toes if he still could manage to get such a performance. What matters is the music. This is an audition for a cello concert, not for a ballet.

  • Fantastic.

  • Une carrière international débute.

Je te dis "Merde" et bravo.

  • *happy sigh* this song always reminds me of autumn... i can just see the leaves falling...

  • INDIGO BOY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! no to many persons are in that kint of frecuence, wow

see how the chelo it´s part of the body, and it takes a freaky movment

    wow

  • This is bewitching!

  • Musicgasm. O.o

  • @EvaNomNomity How many times? :)

  • @EvaNomNomity No. Eargasm. ^-^

  • Mágico, magistral, Uma viagem sem fim.

  • @vitrolazul

Certo, ate agora nunca soube o nomêm desta pieza. Mais eu stou d'acordo com vocé, é muinto bonita... e mágica!! É como si você viajasse emtre as nubes o por na eternidade do cielo...:)

  • Mágico, magistral

  • You know, some would say that your interpretation lends itself to a more "Hollywood" romantic type and doesn't stay as close to that of Bach's time. BUT, I like the romance in this. This was absolutely wonderful. Just wonderful.

    Congratulations on an amazing job.

  • stunning!!! your tone is so rich and I love how your slurs are so clean ! It's amazing how you could play like that back when you were only 15 !

  • So good it sounded fake, thought you were just bs. Wow..

  • Thank you for posting this, Stéphane -- such a beautiful performance! Your ability on the instrument is extremely impressive! But more than that, the depth of experience (in the Blakean sense) you express, for one of your age, is quite remarkable.

I sincerely hope you got to play at Carnegie Hall. With a performance such as that, I can't imagine that you didn't!

I wish you all the best in your career!

  • The tempo is expansive. Detailed and sonorous phrasing. Beautiful performance.

  • Juene homme, you are bliss into the music, the concept is about right, and remember it is ment to be carried by the five strings wooden box, less resonant,

limited by down positions, all that in attempt get more dinamics. Paradoxically,

today it is on us to get that dullness out of our fancy instruments, you by shiffting

into high position and me by playing natural charmonich on my horn since that is

my instrument (I am an amateur, so feel free to wipe out this comment)- Good Luck!

  • You have the talent to play this often heard masterpiece with a pristine kind of freshness. You also have the virtuosity to play with ease, which means you have the power to really speak with your instrument.

  • Well, there are cellists, and then there are cellists named Stéphane Tétreault! Bravo!

  • Wow.

  • Wow! My whole world is now upside-down :D Is the first time I see this prelude started upbow, I'll try. I also like your fingering at the end. Overall, a beatiful, moving and sound romantic interpretation of Bach. Well done!

  • This is the best version i've ever heard so far! i love your way of playing

  • ...... <3 <3 <3 ...

  • In My World. Bravo.

  • very very nice

it was so beautyful that my girlfriend began to cry when she heard that^^

  • i love your interpretation!! its soo like, nicely connected? i cant really explain, and im sorry, but i think its funny how you wobble back and forth... XD

  • i love this interpretation. well, aside from the phenomenal playing.

  • This is absolutely awe-inspiring........ One of the best interpretations ever:) His and Mischa Maisky's interpretations, for me, tie for the number one interpretations of this piece- they are both so passionate about what they do:D

  • beautiful rubato, beautiful playing, I enjoy your interpretation more than I do Rostropovich's

  • Sarah from Italy was quite right. Watching your emotions is as amazing as listening to your music. You´re a real Artist :-)

  • wonderful performance!!

  • i can feel the love you have when you play...nice vibrato by the way

  • This is a wonderful presentation of the Bach! So many moments thought out with such feeling! Wow!

    Donna

  • This is an absolutely breathtaking interpretation of Bach! I love what you do with the rubato! Many thanks for this video!

  • is he blind? i not trying to be rude, im just wondering

  • its so beautiful i had to light my candle to add to the warmth

    Peace&Harmony always!

  • I love this piece of music! ♥ My Cello teacher played it and that made me learn cello.

  • Very beautifully played. And I see nothing wrong with allowing one's body to respond to the music. Making it MUSICAL is what's important. Five stars!

If any close-listeners would like to hear a slightly revved-up, jazzy rendition of this famous prelude, the violin video I posted on my channel may be of interest. As a self-taught jazz musician, I happen to prefer a more conventional, steady rhythm to a melody such as this. But, truly, to each his/her own...

  • Maisky, Rostopovic, Tetreault.... ! Incredible ! You've played the song with more energy than the first two names, so maybe you should be the first name mentioned.

  • Excellent performance Stephane!!!

    Gaby.

  • Che bellissima esecuzione !

  • i can only wonder how you must feel by playing perhaps the most moving piece of music ever, so perfect for solo cello...

this must be daunting, or perhaps spiritual?

and my dream is that you would play the cello for my piece, les anges, or 'rue'

    bravo

    douglas

    this is so deep...

    translation:

Lots of talent!!!!! Your body movements flowed with the music, it was beautiful!

  • veryyy musical, muy bonito!!!
