it is accepted history that England first attacked Germany numerous times before Hitler responded. Churchill even was quoted as saying "Have we become animals?" Germany had no intention of any large-scale war only a small-scale conflict in order to solidify relations with Austria in the life-and-death struggle against the Communist plague. This March was written by Karl Komzak during his time as Director of Music in Innsbruck (band of Infantry Regiment No. 7) approx. in 1881. He dedicated this march to Andreas Hofer - who fighted successfully against French/Bavarian occupation 200 years ago. So this is no music of The Third Reich - it is a traditional AUSTRIAN march - the Nazis only used ist - just as many other excellent tunes for their propaganda!!!!

Andreas Hofer was a freedom fighter, who made the ultimate sacrifice for his country of Tyrol. The very country that a 140 years later would be betrayed by the German Nazis and oppressed by their Italian Facist comrades. Even though I don't revere Andreas Hofer as much as many of my fellow compratiots do, I must defend him and my country this time: Andreas Hofer died 80 years before Hitler was born, and even the composer of this march died before Hitler rose to power. This march has nothing to do with the Third Reich, it's a march commemorating an Austrian national hero, and it's even anti-German, as the Germans, or rather the Bavarians, were Andreas Hofer's enemies. Hmmm... Being of German/Austrian Descent, I would like to say that this song is not NAZI. Andreas Hofer was an Tyrolean Freedom-Fighter against the French and Bavarian Occupation Troops during the Napoleonic Wars. He was executed when caught tho, to me, he is a martyr and may he rest in peace as it is his reward for undying loyalty to the Austrian Emperor: Franz I (1804-1835).

It's sad that everyone must generalize these great works of music as supporting Nazism and the like. A lot of them were Prussian marches, infantry songs, and dedication songs as this one. Hitler and Goebbels just used them for shock and awe. The only Nazi song that comes to mind in this genre of musik would be Die Fahne hoch, which was the Nazi anthem.

Andreas Hofer was a patriot of the Tyrol who fought against the Napoleon Bonaparte's troops. He died in 1810, much many time before the 3rd Reich !

In South Tyrol this march was a symbol against the fascist regim from Mussolini.

all military marches used by third reich are prussian marches or other ancient military marches of european dinasties. this is one of the compromises used by hitler to have favour from the population linked to the old glory of prussia and its military values. i'm italian but i admire prussian military values reflected in these marches

p.s. andreas hofer is a real hero who fought against napoleonic troops in tyrol with few friends on the mountains.

Regrettably I once was in such a march of neo Nazi's they did not like me at all but I post for the sake of history I am a Muslim so ppl say I should not post anything of Israel but I have and if I find anything historic from anywhere I will try to post it as it should be shared. Austria orginally called itself German-Austria and sought union with the rest of Germany in 1919.
