Hey everyone, I'm back. Every single time I watch this, I think back to when I had just returned from the war in Vietnam. Geeez, life was so good ~ I had MADE IT! I came back from the worse place, including hell, that a human being could have been sent to. I had my '70 (but new) Plymouth Roadrunner, pistol grip 4-speed and 8 track banging in the dash. I love this song, I love Van Morrison but, more than all of it, I love the memory of how alive & happy I was to be home. GREAT memories!!!!!
@no1vanfan ~ I have to agree with you but only after having watched this VID about 10,000 times in the last 3 weeks! Perhaps one of my all-time favorite recordings, by anyone, was Domino by Van. When I came back from Vietnam, at the end of '70, I soon fell in love with my 45 RPM "Domino" BUT I must admit that this '77 Midnight Special version of "Domino" is SO much fun. On my YouTube "channel" it's one of my 12 favorites, out of 339 songs! And Van has 4 or 5 recordings in my favorites.
Pt #2 ~ The REASON I mention Sally is because this GREAT Van Morrison song was on the radio back in late '70, early '71 and it always reminded me of her because she was an outstanding dancer (as was I, really) and we use to dance into the early morning hours at the Golden Sails down on 2nd St. and Pacific Coast Hwy, in Seal Beach, CA. Geeez, we had so much fun. You know I loved her dearly but always worried that I wouldn't be the provider she needed AND deserved. God Bless You, Sally!!
When I came home from Vietnam (6 Nov 70) I began dating Sally Elizabeth Arnold. We had both graduated from Santa Fe High School (Santa Fe Springs, Ca.) in 1965 and though we'd be friends for years ~ we never dated until then. Sally was the BEST. Kind, loving, forgiving, understanding, compassionate and lonely. She asked me to move in (April '71) but I couldn't ~ she lived 40 miles from LAX (where I worked). Sally has been married to Randy since '72 and he takes good care of her. Still.....
Stop expecting the same versions of Van.s songs as he just doesn't do that.. Studio version of this is fantastic and is this. His versions never sound the same and that is why he is a musical genius
