I have an Asian Box Turtle and Yellow Belly slider. They are both yearlings and I'm planning on adding at least two map turtles to the family because I recently obtained a 200 gallon tank. Do you think they could make good friends?
Males have long front claws which they use in a mating ritual with the females. Females grow to about 11 inches and males to about half that size. Juveniles are impossible to sex -- you need to wait until they are full grwon to tell!
hmm... can i keep different types of maps together? (they are all going to be the same size, until they grow, you know females=bigger, males= smaller)
yes u can... i have a map, florida softshell, spiny softshell, smooth softshell, snapping, mud, yellow belly cooter and a red belly cooter all babys and they get along well
well yeah but o well i went with the 4 musks i was afraid they might bight of the maps tail l0l it does happen! but u will hjave to seperate them as they get older dont u?
hmm dont think that will be the best idea... but hey they are ur turtles, beacuse as they grow they will get territorial, and stuff, and ur softshells can get infections on their shell from the hardshelled turtles bacause they can scrach their shel! happens trust me
oh yeah very true well maybe when they grow a little ill sell em or give em away the petshops are always willing to take free animals atleast the ones that i go to do. i got an silver arowana about ten to twelve inches long and i bought a smaller one about six inches and the bigger one killed it that arowana is territorial so yeah
hmm... well thats cool but idt i could part with my pets (2 turtles, a og and soon 4 hatchlings (2razorbacks 2 stinkpots) l0l paranteces in parentheisis)
That looks like a Tennessee River System Ouachita Map Turtle. Map Turtles are easy to keep when you have nice warm/hot light, completely dry wood as a basking site, clean water, good diet, keep them warm 1/2 the year when you feed them, lots of oxygen in clean filtered water keeps down bacteria and fungus. That's the trick to map turtles. Watch out for shell rot, dig it out with a pocket knife when you get it. You have to know what to look for though.
Hi, posted a video from awhile back of my turtles. Tucker, the biggest one, was always thought to be a yellow belly, but he looks more like a map like yours.
Tucker has those 'ridges' on his back like yours, and the belly looks the same.
Take a look at my video and let me know your thoughts.
tank in his tank XD
