Jeez. Haven't heard this in about 35 years!!! Brings back memories of bopping round Thrybergh Comp youth club. Keyboard player, Andy Beaumont, went to same school plus played flute in same orchestra as me (v small claim to fame-lol)- remember everyone freakin when he turned up in new garb plus make-up. Still think its a stunning tune though.
saw them at steeleys in sheffield around the time of its release..later to have gary steadman on guitar....from classix nouveaux.....good tune along with love dance..
its matt smith!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! does anyone think otherwise???????????? i would say hes too young to have been around to have a pop career in the eighties but has capable of time travel!
omggggg clearing attic found me old records.....this being one of them...demanded hubby played it on his decks right away ...( hes a hiphop dj).....to say he looked lost as i sung my head off is an understatement !!!
Remember this from years ago and I meet these guys in Virgin summer 1983, think you played The Joint in Milton Keynes if any of you guys are there and remember that :)
Rebecca's in Barnsley....got the track for the DJ after seeing the Vision at the LImit Club in Sheffield...The Vision were from the line of great 80's electro bands....Seen them as goths and new romantics.....nah just a great sheffield electro band
What a great flashback! Takes me back to Numbers in Houston and Backstreet in Austin dancing with my best friend Esther. Anyone found a CD release for this song?
@dillingersdriver Funny, there was a Backstreet club in Ft. Lauderdale back in the 80's. I do not know if it was a gay dance club or not because there were gay people and straight people like me -- and it was incredible. The energy of that place!
i paid $30 for a 12" of this song back in 1992. at the time it seemed like a good idea with it being out of print and all. thank god for mp3s :) hell of a lot cheaper.
y is it called lucifers friend when the actual band (lucifers friend) made the song first, and its nothing like it, dont u hate that when a band makes the same song title but completly change it its really confusing. but still the songs still good but is it me or does the keyboard parts sound like sonic the headgehog?
think there's a bit more than a touch of goth romanticism, this is full on goth if you read those lyrics. They're pretty funny stereotypical vampire stuff, catchy keyboard
Knew Bruce and Robert well along many others. So many memories for this 45 year old. Numbers was a home away from home. Soooo much fun and the best music ever. After listening and viewing this video I remember the after parties My heart is racing thinking about those days in my early 20s and I dated the bartender Joey..too fun.
@deemcful I'm 45 as well, but don't have the old memories of this song. Living in the US I didn't hear it till about 10 years ago when I was searching for songs I didn't have by the band Lucifer's Friend. Loved it from the first. Most of my friends that heard it got into Vision as well. Great group.
andystag and muckhauler, you both right, 8 bells and the jockey in Mansfield, ...AND every sunday even till the early and mid 90's this "always" came on at the John Cockle in Mansfield, I bought the single from st Josephs at sutton, great song, great memories
They played this live as well as the follow up song Love Dance at Peartree bridge Milton keynes... One of eddie Richards nights ;) Great times ............
@dazzule Couldn't resist replying - (ex-Barnsley boy!) Loved Lucifer's Friend as well. Used to sit in the Wellington pub disco (?) in Athersley with a girl I was seeing and couldn't wait for them to put this on. I was 19 - last vestiges of punk rock..I'm Asst Headteacher now down south..if kids only knew how cool I was..ha. Did Stables n/club as well - but preferred Rebecca's. Better kebabs after!
Hi all vision fans, saw these guys a few times while at college and visited them at the studio. Lucky enough to have all their material and cleaned it up and put onto disc.
does anyone know where to find the version that samples the exorcist and the omen? i have searched on soulseek and shareaza to no avail. please help!!!!!
classic goth electro, saw them at sheff uni octagon in 82,me n me mate gary both got pissed for only a fiver.them wur the days.used 2 c the band regularly walkin up n down me mums road in hillsborough.think they wer livin in sum empty houses at the time just b 4 they made the big time.well done boys u is quality!!!!!!!!!!!
well they were from sheffield, but one of them used to go out with a girl called karren who lived on our old road in hellaby rotherham, i could tell you her sisters name, cos she was one of my conquests, maybe too much information there eh?
My eyes burn in the darkness Waiting outside your home A life that's truly immortal A lord of the unknown I only go out in the evening Never seeing the sun Draining the blood from my victims To give me the strength to go on Vanishing just as the dawn comes In vaults below the ground Taking life from the humans
A circle that goes round and round I'll never strike when expected I'm just a shadow at night My victims' eyes full of horror As they feel the terror and fright My eyes burn in the darkness Waiting outside your home A life that's truly immortal A lord of the unknown I only go out in the evening Never seeing the sun Draining the blood from my victims To give me the strength to go on
R.I.P. Andy??? he is alive and well and this morning told me he might be releasing visions old tracks again.. R.I.P. Russ, it is sad he died back in 2000.
Go to my channel to see Love Dance.. I have just found copies of the master tapes and they have been in storage for over 20 years....

Sheffield music - as good today as it's always been! I have very fond memories of dancing to this at the school disco. Vision were brilliant and way ahead of their time.
It didn't come together with Love Dance at all. It was much earlier. I have all their releases on vinyl - including their own remake of this track. I'm not sure where they were all actually born - but they were very much a Sheffield band. They lived and played and practiced in Sheffield and had a Sheffield manager.
They were without doubt very influential - despite a lack of chart success. Like a Gothic Depeche Mode - when Depeche were a boy band making Just Can't Get Enough.
Nah, he was a good friend when I was younger who gave me a copy of the song on vinyl. I used to go out with his sister. lol :)Cinderella Rockerfellas, I was too young for there I think, although remember the neon sign outside.
seriously top pure synth track. bought it all those years ago and still as fresh. why cant music be this good always?! forget leona lewis haha, THIS is what the kids of today should be exposed to!
They played this (with the video) at #'s in Houston. They spliced this video along with scenes from the Exorcist (most notably the slime-spewing from Reagan's mouth) to make it coincide with the 12" version of the song. was always one of my favorites.
Hey jpplaster, do I know you? If you were at #'s between 1982 and 1984, then I knew you, and we probably banged some of the same girls. All of us used to dance to this like crazy. Bruce Godwin was such a lunatic when he would re-mix videos. He was one of Houston's greatest club DJ's. I understand #'s still draws a huge crowd on 80's night. It was, and still is, the best dance music around!
I doubt it...the first time I went to #'s was in '91 when I turned 18. in the 90's i spent countless Fridays's there for "Classic #'s (80's night) and on Wednesday for nickel beer. I did know Bruce (he also owned the Record Rack) but around that time he doesn't DJ'ing anymore, he just kind of ran the club. Unfortunately I don't go anymore because the place is like 14 & up, they let ANYONE in. But I agree, best music around.
Unbelevable ..but not enough of this kinda stuff ..thankyou Youtube FFS , There seems to be something missing these days - musically..No question .. it'l never be the same god-damit..tsk
OMG!!!! I never thought I would find this song when I typed it in, but here it is. Takes me back to school in Rotherham and Vision being top of the local charts before the charts went national.
I never thought in a million years that when I searched for this tune I would actually find it! Was just remembering the 80's with the wife and trying to remember all the South Yorkshire bands. Thanks for posting it!
hello my friend.I saw these at a club in doncaster years ago.Has your list finished?have you got cabaret voltair? The Sheffield sound was awsome back then.Heaven 17s Penthouse Pavement album was very influencial.
This takes me back to the days back in Rotherham when I saw Vision, then met "Chippy" in the local fish & chip shop in Eastwood. Not really sure whether he went to Spurley or thrybergh.Does anyone have any idea of their whereabouts these days
The sound quality is poor, but you can find here most Vision songs, (posted by a member of the band): you just have to search in google "This is a page about my hidden past"
the video played at 'numbers' was a special extended mix created by 'house' dj (at the time) - robert the brit. he also did one of gary numan's "change your mind" (mixed with parts ripped from the flick 'altered states'). i would love to get my hands on those!!! memories.
Love this,classic 8o`s

We had an excuse for our taste in music. It was called "Medusa" and we shoved it up our nose by the bottle full!

Fantastic.
Have wondered what this brilliant tune was since everybody at Oakwood Comprehensive School was dancing to it at youth club discos in 1982.
Followed a link from Gino on the Millers Mad Rotherham United website and hey presto its the tune I have been looking for.
Great memories of a very special time.

OMG!!!! I never thought I would find this song when I typed it in, but here it is. Takes me back to school in Rotherham and Vision being top of the local charts before the charts went national.
Thanks so much for putting this on!

I never thought in a million years that when I searched for this tune I would actually find it! Was just remembering the 80's with the wife and trying to remember all the South Yorkshire bands. Thanks for posting it!

This takes me back to the days back in Rotherham when I saw Vision, then met "Chippy" in the local fish & chip shop in Eastwood. Not really sure whether he went to Spurley or thrybergh.Does anyone have any idea of their whereabouts these days

I lent my Yamaha CS15 synth to the keyboard player when these guys were just started. Do you remember Steve Martin form Milton Keynes?

The sound quality is poor, but you can find here most Vision songs, (posted by a member of the band): you just have to search in google "This is a page about my hidden past"

the video played at 'numbers' was a special extended mix created by 'house' dj (at the time) - robert the brit. he also did one of gary numan's "change your mind" (mixed with parts ripped from the flick 'altered states'). i would love to get my hands on those!!! memories.
