    XD

what a shit is that stuff

    my god!

  • Kraftwerk has always held a spot in my heart, but for some reason, this video oddly reminds me of the end of the talent show in revenge of the nerds....never made the connection before

  • Had to use a BBC Micro emulator to do the ASCII conversion of Jan73463's binary:

  • I was about 3 years and half when i listened them for the first time,i'm 30 now and never get tired of it!

  • Jsem provozovatel s mým kapesní kalkulátor. Viděl jsem tyto lidi v Praze před několika lety. Oni hráli tuto píseň v angličtině, ale já dávám přednost německé verzi.

(I saw Kraftwerk in Prague a few years ago. They performed this song in English, but I much prefer it in German.) What an illuminating band... So ahead of their time.

  • Always pioneers....ahead of the others in this kind of music....

  • This a vision of the future that never happened. Alternate reality. They tried to lead us to the future, but we never went.

  • @bzzzzap visions of dancing with pocket calculators? visions of being in a band that pretend to be robots? what are you trying to say?

  • My Dad had a Texas Instrument. He brought it home and we all stared at it's bright red glowing screen. Next day he threw the slide rule in the garbage.

  • ...in 75 no one knew what a drum machine was, a sequencer, are you joking?KW made these things they didn`t buy them. Stunning. These were the days of Slade and glam. When we heard KW we knew that there was something else out there. Pips, Manchester - and boys in red shirts in 77, great memories and stunning music. Thanks to KW

  • Is that Woody Harrelson on the Texas Instruments?

  • this is alot better then rap and hip hop even if its from the 80s

  • kraftwerk is nice music, for more electronic music you can check my page and have a listen if you feel like it,have a great day : )

  • @Gemendelos Agree. Kraftwerk are the Kings of Electronic Music. Hope you agree.

  • ff...ff....ff....ff... - "Ich bin der Musikant mit Taschenrechner in der Hand" - "ich addiere - und subtrahiere" - "und kontrolliere" - "und wenn ich diese Taste drück' spielt er ein kleines Musikstück" - ff....ff...ff....ff.....

  • stylophone !

  • Pioneers right here

  • I like KW a lot, and I really love when they perform live, but this is not the case. I mean, I still like'em but THIS performance wasn't "live" at all. The song synchs perfectly to the album version, including the effects, delay, etc. Still, I love Kraftwerk! I remember being a kid in the 1978, staring at the jukebox playing their songs...

  • @RobertoTifi This is the music video for Pocket Calculator. I don't think it's meant to be live.

  • @EthanThePerson My fault, then. But I read in the video header "the classic from 1981 played live", and that induced my comment... :) Anyway, KW were (and ARE) my fav group ever!

  • come on people. this song is about a pocket calculator. It's just the best live techno ever created. they play their synths and emulators not like most tecno. They usually program and step write everything. I have all their albums but mine are in english. I like the english version of this song better though. Peace

  • @Jan73463 I'm a total idiot, can someone please explain why loads of people comment with 0s and 1s on kraftwerk videos and why those comments always get loads of thumbs up?

try to excuse my ignorance. Is it binary or something?

  • Comment removed

  • @xraycortina wrong, dude, wrong. seriously =)

  • @mrsdengler you are not an idiot. you are right about the binary code =) my comment below says "ich addiere und subtrahiere" - a line from the song!

  • @Jan73463 ich addiere und subtrahiere translation,

  • They're great. Stop with the politic nonsense and appreciate them as artists or move away.

  • Are they Nazis? Aren't they? Is that important or what they created? Why can't we just appreciate them from the artistic point of view?

I consider them genius and the forefathers of the electronic music.

Danke (I hope it's spelled correctly).

  • @BernardoDVX LOL, Yeah, because all Nazis go around playing electro on Mattel instruments while dancing happily.

  • @BernardoDVX I agree with you. They are a classic of the development of electronic music. Great artist, great performers and innovators. I never hear nothing about nazis thinkings ..... they being thinking on music and computers, and very well by the way.

  • Why can't we delete comments anymore? Who wants this junk I'm writing cluttering up the boards? Hey Youtube- fuck you!

  • i am the operator with my pocket-calculator..

  • So, wait, why are people talking about Hitler on a video of a silly, catchy 80's song about making music on a calculator? I'm sorry, but I fail to see how Kraftwerk have anything to do with Nazis, other than coming from the same country. We come from the same country as the Ku Klux Klan, but does that mean that people talk about the KKK on videos of, say, Van Halen?

Come to think of it, they probably do...

    Okay, rant over.

  • hehe muito legal gostei !!

  • Haha, my dad showed me his old LP's a while back, and he had a whole bunch of Kraftwerk albums. :P

  • that's some seriously questionable dancing.

  • @cathalcom Either that, or they're engaging themselves in the music, rather, ummmmm, odd. >.>

  • @taiken Taiken, I know about History. It used one of my favourite subjects in school. I just misspelled because unfortunelly I don't speak german.

Now, the beauty of things is that anyone is entitled to his/her opinion.

  • Not sure whats worse here. The lackluster attempt of nerd-induced 80's retro, the emos, hipsters, and fake art kids that like this shit, or the fact that some how you people have gotten on a discussion about Hitlers book. Which is actually transcribed as "My struggle"...

  • @Oddesy9 This is good old fashioned techno, and definitely not something that emos would listen to. Hipsters, maybe, but no-one likes them and its best to pretend they don't exist.

  • using handheld instruments visualizes the compactness of a calculator.

  • Das Mein Kempf is a great book that everybody should read it, even you think the opposite (how can you expect me to consider your opinion against it if you didnt read it?) but we're to celebrate the songs of the forefathers of the electronic music. Leave the ideologies for another day and a different space. Just enjoy the geniality of your german brothers.

  • Comment removed

  • @shaevy I only know that it means My Struggle and I do apologise for my misspelling but I don't speak German.

I do consider as a mandatory reading if you're interested in these kind of subjects. If it's legal to read and people are adviced to read K.Marx, why not read the opposite? If far left is legal, why far right is illegal?

  • I don;t think jew hate is at the opposite end to Marx's manifesto on a simple left-right political scale...I would say extreme libertarianism/capitalism is, and capitalist/libertarian literature is not banned. Jew hate is not part of those ideologies...I think mein kamp's being banned is something to do with the jew hate to be honest

  • This is the song of my life!

  • Im the operator with my pocket calculator!

  • @Flippinflopperstein

when i press this special key it plays a little melody!

  • 1:59 is too abrasive to mine komph!

  • I think you mean to say "mein Kopf", because "mein Kampf" is considered a fairly unpopular book these days. :)

  • @malenkylizards or "Mein Kampfy Chair"

  • lol

  • this ish is still knockin'!

  • by pressing down a little key it plays a simple melody

  • indeed!

  • J'adore l'original allemand moi qui l'ai toujours entendu en anglais.....

  • oh kraftwerk, i really do love you xx

  • What's my dad doing on stage?

  • I like the english version more, but this is great to :D

I also think that people can stop complaining about germany.. Okay, some people from german where big nazis once uppon a time... but COME ON! That was like FIFTY YEARS AGO!! You just can't judge them still for that!

Please, everyone know that very many good bands comes from germany: Rammstein, Feindflug, Kraftwerk and so on..

Germany is the fucking best country in the world (after sweden of course^^)!

So FUCK OFF with ur ancient talk!

  • @QueenOfPsychos The nasdp had a core, the black sun. This was the Thuler society, and the Vrill. Marie Osric and Sigrund were able to contact ET for the information to build gravity drives. The plasma engine, or marconi venturi dynamo used a coler coil, or magnetostromaparat to create energy without oil or gasoline. The jewish bankers won the war, and the world has been slave to them since. Now they are destroying the USA economy just like they did Germany. Soon we will awake to this and know!

  • @abacab987 So true, even nowadays the us are nothing but a israeli state...

  • This reminds me my childhood, back in the 80's.

  • lol, yeah me too!

  • Saw these amazing dudes at the Theatre Royal Brighton 1981.

The whole place was dancing - quite brilliant.

  • SPRODKETZ!!! na just kiddin, this is cool as hell!

  • Ich bin der Musikant mit Taschenrechner in der hand...

    kontrolliere und.....so 80s...but I love it !

  • I think it's cool how each band member is dancing individually and the crowd is dancing as well and getting into it.

Something about this clip that is hypnotic.

I mean ... it's dorky but cool at the same time.

Wish I could go back in time and be there.

    I love it !

  • @ccblack1 You know, if they danced as a group and rythmically it'd look soo weird :)

  • Their best song by a mile.

  • Absolutely magnificent. There arent enough superlatives to describe this.

  • prekursorzy techno!super

  • Ok, my spelling sucked there - but you get the drift. I hate when I do that....

  • I love Kraftwerk, but bascially then God said: "Let there be DJ's in every dance club in the world"...and then there were...

  • 100% pozytywny przekaz ;)

  • ta muza jest po prostu w pytę.

Fanie dzięki tej muzyce cofnąć się w czasie

  • great work!

  • ENI OPERÉTOR?

  • Careful, Ethan: based on Ronnylaine's stringing together of gibberish and nonsensical non-sequeters, he sounds to me like Charles Manson. His train of thought works just like Manson's (schizophrenic nonsense).

  • stil bangin'! these catz took the 'hood over w/their sound! hip hop would not be the same w.out the germans (see afrika bambatta, beastie boys, mantronix)!

  • @insightdeluxe2 Aren't BB new yorkers? Are their families German?

  • @BernardoDVX huh???

  • @insightdeluxe2 You mentioned that world of music would miss some German artists like Beastie Boys, etc. And I asked if they aren't new yorkers instead of Germans as you stated. I also putted the hypothesis of being americans with German origins. Is that the case?

  • They were pretty stiff during the late 70's when they were doing Der Roboter song, but it doesn't matter, without Florian, Kraftwerk just isn't the same.

  • German Video is POCKET CALCULATOR,

    now brazilian video is EXCLUIDODIGITAL

  • @kurlafunana Who cares about zuka versions?

  • Soo FREAK but i like it xD

  • Man the true pioneers of techno music

  • not just techno but ALL electronic music (hip hop, house, funk)

  • The Beatles of electronic music, yeah!!

  • hahha agredd. the only band I love like Kraftwerk actually, is one hiting strong in Italy. Search SWAVE IN THE FUTURE. is very different

  • The goodness of Germans, this song is quite good... very well composed and plenty of sound effects

Worth listening to if one needed help on how a calculator works...

  • Adolf plays the duck call ;)

  • with a little skin flute on the side

  • That's hilarious. Did you think that up all by yourself, you utter spastic.

  • yes i did

  • I went to this show in 1981 when it cameto London. Utterly unforgettable, and Pocket Calculator was a brilliant finale. Most of the music is sequenced. Karl played a stylophone, Wolfgang an electornic snare, Florian, the calculator and Ralf some sort of monophonic pocket keyboard. Everything else was sequenced. But brilliant...

  • no intrument ..he playd with your grannies balls...honk

  • Adolf Hiter wasn't there. He isn't a member of kraftwerk because he's dead and a nazi. Kraftwerk are not nazis.

You, on the other hand, might as well join the nazis, because judging by your comments on this video, you're a prick.

  • If thats the case ninjag then why are you listening to german music, you must be a packy to think of a user name like that, and thats worse than a Nazi

get a grip punjaby mc, not nice been named is it.

  • Not only is your comment beyond disgusting, it's also highly offensive. People from all over the world could potentially be watching this video, and your comment is bound to really upset and hurt someone. Just because Kraftwerk are from Germany that doesn't automatically make them Nazis, the Nazi movement had well and truely ended by the early 80's. Be very careful what you say on YouTube, or someone will get very upset and angry with you, watch yourself.

  • Another thing. People watch this video because that like this song, myself included. Why must you post comments like this? Can't we all just enjoy this awesome music without posting offensive comments? Let's all just get along for a change.
