Listen man I am having a hell of a time understanding layers and how to use them. You are very fast and even with the pause I'm not getting it. Maybe I have a learning disability or something. Do you know of any place I can go to learn the concept of masking ? I mean that can explain it in simple terms so I can understand the application of them.
The trick to applying masks is to click on the target layer's mask box just before the paste operation. If you click on the layer thumbnail rather than the mask, the paste operation affects the layer and not the layer mask.
For some reason, I can't make more than one selection area. How can i change this. I can only make one selection area. If i amke another one, It deletes the first one.
I think that the tutorial is fine the way that it is, but I recommend that you put a link in the description to a tutorial that will help people understand more about the basics about masks.
That being said, this tutorial really helped me to understand masks better. Seeing you work with layers and masks really helped to clarify things.
Assumes you are already very familiar with the GIMP features used. A simpler, step by step procedure would be only a little slower but much more accessible.
how do you pull up that menu bar that shows your different layers

The tutorial is good, but you could start by saying what a mask is.
