  • Oh! I LOVE this song. I clicked on the thumbnail not realizing what this was. Great song.

  • I listened to this song again and it's good for the 60's. Not my style but definitely embodies the 60s from the little I know about it from movies.

  • @ScaredPiglet lol to each is their own sure but this music is beautiful, and this man was talented

  • @xgalore77zerha268 He was famous for only one song... just this Runaway song. After that, he turned into a disgusting, ugly creep.

  • @ScaredPiglet your point?

  • @xgalore77zerha268 yours?

  • @ScaredPiglet i asked first

  • @xgalore77zerha268 and I asked second

  • @ScaredPiglet ya but i asked first

  • @xgalore77zerha268 but then I asked second

  • @ScaredPiglet i feel like we're not making much progress here....

  • @xgalore77zerha268 I like the song I'll make a man outta you - mulan. And most movies I like the same, except Pearl Harbor and silence of the lambs which are horrible. Misery and doom to J.B. but do not hate your enemy too much lest you empower him.

  • @ScaredPiglet haha did you see that in my favorites or is it just an odd coincidence that you like 'I'll make a man out of you' cause i fucking love that song, i really do. The last sentence you wrote is gibberish to me, but as if you didn't like pearl harbor, it's a great movie.

  • @xgalore77zerha268 The proverb in my last sentence is too deep for you to understand but your website is covered in anti-JB references. Pearl Harbor is one of the most hated movies ever made cause it turns a major American historical event representing the false flag operation to start the Pacific War and turns it into a disgusting romance with bad actors.

  • @ScaredPiglet The problem is matey that i don't even remember writing those movies in my profile, and i and wasn't sure who you were referring too with J.B. I thought you were just saying something random tbh....

  • 1:12 always loved this since a kid

  • @Gyphia LOL it's the subtle cultural differences and phonetic nuances that make life worth living. XD LOL

  • Why he shot himself? anyone would get depressed and kill themselves listening to today's music.

  • I think he was 15 when he sang this :D

GREAT MUSIC AND BEING ON MORE!

  • fantastico aunque pasen los años siempre se escuchara hermosa

  • wish i was a kid back then . . love fifties early sixties stuff

  • MAN MUSIC BACK THEN WAS THE SHIT!!

  • an absolut great song... bobby darin dreamlover is great to...and i hear this songs always in movies...so great

  • just heard this on American Graffiti

  • I love the backing strings at 2:10. It's such a farout progression!

  • This must be off of an album or something because it is not the same version I remember as being the original. Listen to the version at reyesm13 on youtube. That's the version that is the one I remember as being the original. (Even the organ break on this version is different than the original.) In addition this version doesn't have the drive and edge the original had.

  • so sad, he shot himself :( why? such talent....

  • @omarskats3000 Too perfect for this world. tis a true shame.... :/

  • run run runaway :-) das rockt

  • you know, people have the right to be happy even if i don't...

  • Even us Call Of Duty players can get into this ;)

  • @TheSupernoobtube

Have to agree. To bad if you played this on a mic no one else would appreciate this song and kick you to the lobby.

  • i love it... i heard it in ''heroes'' and i love the killer-Syler...anyway was a great scene in the rain and i heard the song for the first time. i know shame on me but since then i am listening to it every day :P

  • Oh YES ! I did when this was first released & still do after all these years !! It was a great 'new' beat for us too back then.

  • my neighbors were playing a remix of this by some country music guy and its sounded just horrible compared to del shannon

  • now this IS a Farfisa Organ... nothing else sounds like it!

    Very Cool Song...

I remember when I ran away with my 15 year old girlfriend... this became out theme song... sang it to myself in a Kenosha, WI jail cell... that's as far as we got.

Our Parents had to come and get us as we were both minors... Ha Ha... wonder what ever happened to that girl... Sweet Candy!

  • DOPE

  • One of the first rock & roll artists to utilize the organ in his songs.

  • Para terminar esta miseria

    Y me pregunto

    Yo wah-wah-wah-wah me pregunto

  • One of the best!!! Why did he have to take his life? Hope he is in a better place! RIP Del Shannon

  • I'm playing this for my guitar lessons, so I looked it up. I'm glad I did. New song for my Ipod(:

  • Lovely sound but this is an alternate take and not the hit version .....I like it

  • What year was this released?

  • @unforgivenstinkfist

Early 1961, if my memory is correct.

  • @9mrmac Thank you much, I appreciate it.

  • this song just randomly popped in my head.

  • Thank YOU for posting a decent quality recording! This song factored heavily in my youth. I'm 62 and listening to RUNAWAY is like time traveling.

  • I find the raspy-ness and the way Del Shannon articulated his lyrics unmatched. Yes and his voice was "sexy."

  • thank you putting a decent version of this song on you tube

  • A good Michigan boy who brought music to the world. I grew up with his music.

  • sad he ended his own life - very sad.

  • Wow-never heard this-

  • this was Sylar's favorite

  • Excellent song, and timeless too!

  • geez... 1:12 is soup mending.

  • i wa wa wa wa wa wa wonder

  • Thanks! you are exactly right - so many songs have covers by other people but not always the originals. Thanks this song really takes me back.

I especially love the wild break in this song. It is timeless.

  • never meant to like that twas my cousin :L

  • unreal

  • My very favorite song in 7th grade, felt so "cool".

  • Does anyone find his voice sexy?.

  • @JennyHeartbreak Yes, especially when he strained it like on the word "walking" at about 0:34

  • @JennyHeartbreak I Do!! LOL

  • @JennyHeartbreak He's got a certain appeal that is clean, original and somewhat rough at times,, he was an original, wasn't he ?

  • @JennyHeartbreak Yes, I do!

  • @JennyHeartbreak it looks from a girl haha but is cool

  • @93carlosink

    How'd you know? hmmm...

  • @JennyHeartbreak

    um yeah

  • @JennyHeartbreak ...i do and i'm 19 years old.

  • beast

  • This song brings back sooooo many good wonderful thoughts growing up in the 60s early 70s The so called music now adays isnt fit for human consumption.

  • you people hating on rap is the exact same thing as people hating on oldies....just flip the tables

  • @staphoz Your almost right. Look at what there playing. 70, 80,90s Nope just jump from the 60s to now.

  • dude this is the BEST recording of this song iv'e heard , i remember hearing it on a 45 , my mom alwats played good music

  • I always wonder what came first the music or the dance? all I could do while listening tothis song was visualize people doing the "jerk" or the "swim". That aside, this song is rockin'. Groovy baby Groovy!

  • does anyone know what the instrument is that plays the solo ?? Sounds like distorted strings...

  • @Ericstlaurent its the record the guys playing, its warped

  • lol

  • This song is an addiction! i love the keyboard solo so much!

  • This is my all time favorite song.

People don't know that he also was a ghost writer,

and didn't get the credit he deserved for his song writing.

I also have a personal like for (Hats Off TO Larry) since thats

    my name.

The last time I heard him was on talk show radio just before his death.

He was a Great One .

    Lawrence Rasmus

  • i sing along to this atleast 5x in a row

  • Man I miss the 60's. I was born in the 80's. Is there anything wrong with me liking songs from the 50's and 60's? Tell the truth.

  • @roosevelthighschool There is absolutely nothing wrong with liking good songs. The only thing that's wrong is worrying about when they were recorded. If it's good, it's good. It is isn't, it isn't. Nothing else matters.

  • @roosevelthighschool

I sat listening to this when i was a teenager. The country was a much better place in 50s and early 60s, not poisonous like today.

  • this is the best version that i know, i heared another one and sounds like psicophony awful.

  • check out Bonnie Raitts version

  • @TheCroow99 Yeah..sorry sir, I'm going to stick with Mr. Shannon, her voice just doesn't fit it.

  • First time I've heard this version as well - obviously a re-recording but when?

  • @taxman9922 in the 60Ss Please checxk out the Bonnis Raitt version the best

  • Brilliant organ solo (if that's what it is...)... not evident until you hit the break... jarring introduction and gives the song that elevation that's priceless...

  • LOVE THIS SONG MUCH BETTER THAN THE CRAP MY FRIENDS LISTEN TO

  • LOVE this song! Terrific sound quality--great job. Thanks!

  • 1:22 is on purpose?

  • @VTiK

    I don't think so.

  • Awsome song! Me and my Father loves it !! Searched for a long time ;)

  • First time i heard this was on American Graffiti

  • @zekeandpoco Same here, man

  • @zekeandpoco This song as sung by Shannon was the opening theme music for the TV show Crime Story starring Dennis Farina and introducing Andrew Dice Clay, though I believe this version here is a re-record.

  • @zekeandpoco Great film.

  • Haha, I'm with you. I'm 19 and my dad is a Baby Boomer, kinda had me at a late age so I grew up listening to Del Shannon, The Zombies and things like that. Great music.

  • I have never heard this version before. Not quite the version which came out in 1961 on Big Top records. Still not bad. Lawrence Welk had an instrumental version of this song.

Larry N. Boyington, aka Larry Neal former curator of the Wax Museum on the big 1520KOMA

  • LOVE THIS DEL WAS ONE OF THE BEST X

  • This is another, better version that I've heard.

What's the name of this version?

  • love, love, loooovveee this song. Just putting this out there, nobody should judge other peoples likes or dislikes in regards to music. If beethoven have of heard del shannon, the beatles, rolling stones he would've thought the world was going to hell. Its all relative...just saying

  • OMFG this is so great.

  • 22 people looking for the bon jovi tune?

  • Faultless

  • i love this song i know is not of my age but sounds great!

  • Quentin Tarantino should use this song in one of his movies! Come to think of it, it could've worked well in the intro of Kill Bill! Just my opinion...

  • Great song...(creepy too if you "hear" Neil Young type voice characteristics)...took me "forever" to dupe the solo....

  • just some words to Deputydog857 :

im 16 and love the song ;)

there are young people who know good music^^

    how i say...its an amazing song :) *_*

  • Anyone who clicks "dislike" on this video is under the age of 35 at least and has no concept of what nusic WAS until the abortion of rap, and modern day "modern day" music, (scuse me while I vomit). There are a few decent groups out there that still "try" to stay within the concepts of music. However the others, have pretty much shitted the song era out thier asses and have ruined real music for all times.

  • @Deputydog857 I've liked oldies since i was 12 it's just haters.

  • 22 peoples had orgasms and missed the like button

  • Love it.

  • Pesma razvaljuje!!!!! :)

  • This is good song ,but i dont know why he choice to suicide to end of live

  • I first heard this on 'Crime Story' years ago, and I've never been able to forget it. A great, classic song by a sadly missed talent.

  • This is another example of "Michigan" is the "Rock n Roll" capitol of the world!!

  • It's hard to believe he committed suicide.

  • @Beatlefanone Why did he commit suicide?! It's unbelievable, just like the lead singer of Boston and Nirvana. The most talented ones cut down too soon by suicide.

  • @vintagechica82 He was really depressed about personal matters that were escalating, so he shot himself.

  • I hunting down the 22 people who disliked this and skinning them alive. anyone who doesn't like this song hates puppies, and those people are horrible :)

  • Beautiful. Haunting. Nuff said :)

  • copado! this a song to insert on a tarantino films.

  • I LOVE this song! <3

  • thank you so much for posting this song!

  • Roy Orbison owns them all!

  • What a nice song, good to hear the past generation classics...

  • a-waaa-waaaaaaa-waaaa-waaaaa-waaaaa

  • to much rapist singing!

  • I love singing along to this song. We often have it playing in the car. :)

  • Put the singer Del Shannon in the rock and roll hall of fame

  • @BrendettNC Do you realize that Neil Sadaka isn't in the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of fame but there are heavy metal bands that have been inducted?

  • This song reminds me of my dad so much....what a track...Enjoy people...

  • Great great song.

  • SYLAR!!!! :DDD

  • I LOVE THIS SONG

  • Great song and singer but he looks just like Pee Wee from Porky's!

  • BRILL!

  • by creepy I'm sure you mean crappy

  • Absolute classic

  • Thanks for the post.

  • Thanks to Tegan and Sara I know this song haha which is sad cause this is a good song! I should of known about this before!!

  • i waa waaa waaa waaaa Wonder

  • The first time ever synthisizer was recorded, historic song. Dale Rocks baby!

  • this is a really good version of this song. It sounded nice and crystal clear. Thanks for posting.

  • Absolutely love this song.

  • Any of you ever heard "In the Cage" by Genesis?

  • Damn..what memories...am 61... seemed like this stayed #1 forever!!

  • @ponda1 Compared to music now days anything is #1

  • nice one.. but why in the >>dick brave & the backbeats<< playlist? O.o

  • who the hell could click 'dislike' on this video? toooo much love for this song

  • @sshhiivvuumm Whom ever clicked dislike most likely is blasting 50 cent or some other no-talent "artist" that comes around. Music used to be so raw in the fact they didn't have the technology to make people's voices sound better. They didn't need that back in the day because music meant something and had talent. Nothing is sacred anymore.

  • @manufacturedcitizen i wont lie, i listen to alot of modern 'no talent artists' now but thats cos i actually do listen to pretty much every genre of music there is

i am only 14 after all!

but dell shannon is one of my favourite artists right now!
