This is a great idea. I'm going to try the pool first to see if that keeps her from digging to China. I have two akitas, and not exactly sure which one is the culprit but pretty sure its my female.
By the way, I had one dog that was bound and determined to be destructive and nothing stopped her, not hot sauce, sprays, dog poo, nothing. She ate my shoes, son's fitted baseball hats, lawn furniture, and finally my sprinkler system. Had to give her to someone else.
Have heard of this method and might have to try this. Our new puppy though seems to only dig (so far) when we are in the yard. Telling him "no" has no effect, neither did the spray "No Dig". I have noticed if I simply walk away, he stops. I think he is doing it for my entertainment. When he sees he gets no reaction (good or bad) he quickly gives it up and stops. Also, laying chicken wire flat on the ground in areas where they did is very effective. Thanks for the video
Hi I have a problem, I have an indoor dog and when we're away for a couple hours ,or I'm gone he digs in our couch! D: the hole is about 4 inches deep how do you fix this? some sort of repellent? idk it sucks because it's inside and it's harder to fix any idea's?
@FurAlyssey You could try what @SilksBunny suggested and crate train him. Crates are awesome. :)
When you leave, do you leave him with anything to do? He's probably just bored when you're gone. Try leaving lots of "smart toys" for him to play with. I have another video with a lot of smart toy ideas. Also, a really simple fix is to put something on the couch so he can't get on it. You can use cardboard boxes or folded-up folding chairs. Let me know if this works or if you have more questions.
My roomate's dog keeps digging in the same place. Another vid says put dog crap in the hole, but some dogs eat their crap, not sure that will work. Im skeptical about the sand box thing, but cant try anyway because we're renting. I tried beating the dog, but thats not working too well eaither. Then I got the bright idea to cover the ground with cayenne pepper so that when he sniffs the dirt, he gets a nose full of pain. Hope it works!! ha ha ha
I tried a sandpit and it did not stop my bullmastiff at all. She STILL digs. Also, you have any hints on stopping my dog from pulling our washing off the clothesline? We have no option now but to hang our washing so that NO part of them are hanging down, which means we have to hang 1/2 of our washing inside, because we haven't got enough room on the line.
we've have a sand pit...pleased the one dog but the other still digs when she doesnt get exercis. you should mention that when they dog dig to put their poop in the hole. they wont return to that hole after
hey my dog keeps digging under the fence i need to stop him any ideas ?

@FurAlyssey crate her when your gone. Dogs need a 'den' and a crate, or a dog cage works great. My dog even goes there when my kids stress her out!!

You can also use a plastic kiddie pool as a sandbox, in case you're too lazy to dig a hole and/or you aren't allowed to dig on the property.

@dragontooth81 Unless your dog likes to eat cayenne pepper, like mine does. Then you're really screwed.

@dmeckle Maybe not, but our girl goes and digs in another spot instead. The poop thing doesn't work on her and neither does the sand pit.
