If there are few people who want them in and many who want them out it'd help intervener depose them. Though it doesn't mean they will step down it is possible especially if a power as great as the US steps in.
However, all war is costly, and you can't rely on the chance they'll step down too much.
He's done horrible things, but many rebels are in al queda. Better the devil you don't know is a devil yet but we do kinda see the rebels who look most likely to take over after the rebels finish in fighting are shady themselves. I think since we fought most of this war, we should rule the damn place ourselves. If we did that in Iraq we could've got the oil, forced the people to stop being tribal or shot them in the face, etc, and reshaped the country in our image.

I think that someone with the influence and position of the president should be leading the discussion on one or two key domestic policy issues per-term. However you feel about the healthcare bill, it doesn't get passed without Obama's support, and I think the president should reserve the right to devote time to such things.
The thing is people rate the president on how much better he can make life for people rather than foreign policy, but focusing on a mass domestic agenda is unconstitutional and is (this is VERY farfetched) a fascist trait
