I have never played this game and to be honest I don't know if I will, but this guys review is not what turned me away from it. The only thing this review turned me away from is any further reviews by this guy, if you can in fact call this a review. I fucking love this game.... It so bad its good. I love its weirdness. 20$ for 15 hours on easy. Interesting story. The best boss fight i've ever played. If you like a good story and survival horror give this game a chance.
Give this game a chance and it will surprise you. Very entertaining and original. So it isn't flawless, its trying something new and I found it a lot of fun.
"Voice acting is key in a survival horror game." - HOW?! And I love how all of his examples of "bad" voice acting came from York, when THATS sort of his tone of voice. That just how he talks, its established in his character pretty early in the game. But I will agree that the sound effects (at least the gun related ones) are terrible. Also yes the aiming is terrible. But thats where the strafing comes in. Its actually pretty useful. And yes, the driving is a bit strange at times.
Aesthetic is what makes the visuals of a game good or bad and inconsistancy is what breaks the aesthetic of any game. Deadly Premonition's weird facial expressions and inappropriate music would break the game, if it wasnt ALWAYS present. And the great juxtaposition of being with the investigation police team and fighting zombies is enough to forgive the flaws of not looking so great. And the level design is excellent. Theres almost no backtracking unlike in most "good" games with puzzles.
I really have to say it. This review is wrong, on every level. The combat is a little silly in the fact that being able to run and gun would have made the game much easy, but that was the same problem in Dead Rising 1 and it was still an amazing game. The level design is a little copy pasted with trees and enemies but the characters are well different. And while the graphics are the best the AESTETIC is excellent. Everything feels like its part of the game, which is exactly how it should be.

@gratedpuffin Anyone with a 360 should play this, if not own it. The awkward controls, less-than-stellar voice acting and weird story actually make the game far more enjoyable than others with similar problems. And the driving is absolutely hilarious, and far less frustrating than this douche of a reviewer makes it sound.
The best thing, though, is the music. That damn whistling has been in my head for almost two weeks now because it's so catchy. XD
@eldreamo76 sure its influenced by twin peaks, but when was twin peaks ever a game? yes it has some of the weirdness of silent hill and the shooting system of resi. But neither of those games had you driving around the town, interacting with npcs, doing minigames and side missions, nor were they set in a world with a time and weather system. BTW if you liked twin peaks its impossible to disike this game.

Actually if you get past the somewhat, SOMEWHAT! Bad controls its actually a great game! I love this game! the storyline is so awesome, I would love another Deadly Premonition. This game is great. Granted its not very pretty, it has a great vibe to it. The overall gameplay would remind some of Yakuza 4- Except with a horror concept. Not gonna lie, the combat in this game sucks, the graphics are bad and the character animations aren't good. It looks like a 1st gen ps1 game and the shooting a gun or driving a car is just awful. "Voice acting is key in a survival horror game." - HOW?! And I love how all of his examples of "bad" voice acting came from York, when THATS sort of his tone of voice. That just how he talks, its established in his character pretty early in the game. But I will agree that the sound effects (at least the gun related ones) are terrible. Also yes the aiming is terrible. But thats where the strafing comes in. Its actually pretty useful. And yes, the driving is a bit strange at times.

Aesthetic is what makes the visuals of a game good or bad and inconsistancy is what breaks the aesthetic of any game. Deadly Premonition's weird facial expressions and inappropriate music would break the game, if it wasnt ALWAYS present. And the great juxtaposition of being with the investigation police team and fighting zombies is enough to forgive the flaws of not looking so great. And the level design is excellent. Theres almost no backtracking unlike in most "good" games with puzzles.

I really have to say it. This review is wrong, on every level. The combat is a little silly in the fact that being able to run and gun would have made the game much easy, but that was the same problem in Dead Rising 1 and it was still an amazing game. The level design is a little copy pasted with trees and enemies but the characters are well different. And while the graphics are the best the AESTETIC is excellent. Everything feels like its part of the game, which is exactly how it should be.

This guy needs to stop doing reviews. Yeah, the game definitely has some big, big bugs and flaws.. but it was probably one of the most refreshing games I have played in a long time. Gamers of this generation don't seem to care how in depth a game is.. they just want it to look pretty. Ugh. 2/10?

@gratedpuffin Anyone with a 360 should play this, if not own it. The awkward controls, less-than-stellar voice acting and weird story actually make the game far more enjoyable than others with similar problems. And the driving is absolutely hilarious, and far less frustrating than this douche of a reviewer makes it sound.
The best thing, though, is the music. That damn whistling has been in my head for almost two weeks now because it's so catchy. XD
So, yeah, you should get it. :D

@eldreamo76 sure its influenced by twin peaks, but when was twin peaks ever a game? yes it has some of the weirdness of silent hill and the shooting system of resi. But neither of those games had you driving around the town, interacting with npcs, doing minigames and side missions, nor were they set in a world with a time and weather system. BTW if you liked twin peaks its impossible to disike this game.

This game has better storytelling and atmosphere than the entire halo series put together. Its also a breath of fresh air playing something like this after the usual mountain of style over substance fps clones that flood the market. There no other game out there like it, and while they may not have had the budget for flash graphics, it kicks ass.

Actually if you get past the somewhat, SOMEWHAT! Bad controls its actually a great game! It's long and there isn't just a main quest there are side quests to do! it's a long game and and the story is fantastic, it could be confusing but it still is a great game! I can't believe people can't get passed the graphics and controls ughh get over it.

This game is one of a kind (in a good way). This reviewer sounds like a whiney ignorant brat who only plays COD/halo. This is a game for true old skool gamers to appreciate. There are loads of flaws in this game but all are unforgiven due to its awesome atmosphere and unique game design. Think Shem mue meets silent hill and alan wake with a twin peaks story.

I love this game! the storyline is so awesome, I would love another Deadly Premonition. I could Imagine this game with realistic graphics, I don't care how bad the graphics look tho but still it will would look awesome, this game was so fun playing it, when I finished it, I was hoping another girl died so I can play a whole new story. Hopefully they'll another one out of this I really enjoyed it. :D

I understand that we all have our own view of how a game should look and play, but I just couldn't get into this. Look at a list of games that came out in 2010 and then consider how this looked and played compared to those. It's really bad :/

Ratings are for comparison. i will admit the controls were a bit "off" but once you play it for a bit it gets a little easier. cant tell ya how to play your games m8 but i can at least tell ya i was satisfied with it as far as the story goes =P plus graphics or not i always whodunit games

This game is great. Granted its not very pretty, it has a great vibe to it. The overall gameplay would remind some of Yakuza 4- Except with a horror concept. YOu have to give it a chance as you will be skeptical the first half an hour. But hell i spent 20 hours on it and loved every minute. Ign, you truly are graphic whores. Kinda sad. . . . Like the reviewer.

But keep in mind that this is an open world game... compare this to a ps2 open world game like let's say GTA3 (great game btw)

This review is absolutely horrible.
Deadly Premonition may not have the best graphics, but it's certainly a fantastic game.
Hell, It's one the best games that I played in many many years.
The story was extremely captivating and it constantly kept me thinking about what will happen next.
The characters are great and very believable due to their not so perfect behaviour.
I love York's endearing awkwardness, and rightnow I really have the feeling he's someone I got to know IRL.

Not gonna lie, the combat in this game sucks, the graphics are bad and the character animations aren't good. It looks like a 1st gen ps1 game and the shooting a gun or driving a car is just awful. But guess what? That doesn't matter. This game is hilarious and the story is just fucking awesome. The music is probably the best in any game, and it's not meant to be taken seriously. This game is a HELL of alot better than fucking Vampire Rain... this game had to be one of the most Nostalgic, original and thought provoking games I've played in awhile... I actually enjoyed this game, it was really fun to play except doing all those side quests to get all those trading cards, but hey lots of games make you collect shit.. but this game is just.. I don't know; different but in a good way, I especially loved how it made me think and I found York to be funny as hell sometimes.
