@iheartscreamcore Well, the journalist said he found some "thalidomide" in the house (watch a walkthrough and you'll see what I mean). Thalidomide is a sedative that can cause birth defects, so it's implied that Blackwood's son is deformed because the mother took some before he was born.

Wow, I've just finished the original "Scratches" game a few minutes ago...I did'nt know that there was a "Director's Cut" version, and this seems to be that version, right? But it's strange, the walls are different from the game I played (it looks way worse in fact, where have all the art pictures gone?). I was wondering if the guy I saw at the basement of Blackmore's house was Robin, and it seems so. Then, did Milton and James' wife hide Robin from James when he was borned or something?

It looks like he could have easily killed Robin he hasnt had proper hygiene or care for years and he probably suffering from malnutrition and if this game im not mistaken took place the first one not last visit in the 70s or 60s shouldn't he have most of his teeth either very brittle or just gone he probably has gingivitis that could have turned to petrodontitis and eventually caused septic shock killing him. or i could be wrong either way good game.

I think I could piece this together now. Just hear me out guys:

Now I'm sure we're all well aware that thing is Robin. Now the reporter runs away from him and Robin persues. I know its hard to figure out what happened but the reason for this is because the audio is totally out of sync. If you sync the sounds together properly, it is evident that Robin in fact leaped at James or Milton? and surely killed him...ripped the neck...In the end, reporter runs out forever.

Well, didnt James die in the manor? I saw the alternate ending and i think the skeleton you see under the fireplace is James' body because of the last note he left. So if anyone its Milton but I'm probably wrong. The story in this game certainly makes you think though, but its great none the less

The original "Scratches" was a much better game. The musical score and storyline gave the game an erie and surreal feeling to it. Last Visit, in my opinion was only created to give closure to those whom wanted to know more of the actual story. It wasn't well thought out, and was merely released to give those whom enjoyed the original game. It was like the bonus footage of a movie DVD. I am sure there are much better games in the genre, but Scratches was kinda fun nonetheless.

So the guy who stole the mask (James Blackwood) found out that the mask was cursed when his son (Robin) was born. Robin was severely aggressive and malformed. So James, along with his friend (I forgot his name) decided to try to make the kid behave better.

But as the kid got older he developed an obsession with the mask. James borded it up in the African Gallery closet, and Robin became upset. So one day he ripped his mother's throat open. (Im running out of characters, im gonna make 2 comment

This was the doctor. In the oringal ending, there is raw meat [his thoart], stuck to the teddy bear, well this one explains it. He basically lunged at him, and killed him, by ripping his thoart out.

I played through that game in 6 hours with no walkthrough, in the evening with all the lights out, and i didn't get scared once (The part underground where some thing pops up behind you actually made me laugh out loud) But in scratches i almost peed my pants simply by walking into the cellar.

The atmosphere of Scratches is very good i agree..But i cant compare the fright i got in Darkness Within at the scene when someone knocks at your door several times and noone is there when suddenly...!!And underground with the old woman...Also i loved the times when you lost control of the character and he got dizzy,or very frightened...when you felt so helpless and made you believe YOU lose control and BECOME the character.And the atmosphere was so ''perverted'',unnatural,gloomy­...

So i guess you didnt like gameplay aspects of Darkness Within like the combination of thoughts to create clues or underlining sentences in documents for the same reason..I thought these were great additions to the gameplay...Actually Scratches and DW are very similar games,in atmosphere AND story, but in my opinion the latter's scenario was far more dark,sinister,mysterious &confusing.Something Lovecraft would be proud of.And definately not the cheap and usual story of a curse of an african mask
