  • these are the tunes that matter when u talk about U2,like i will follow, celebration, party girl, gloria, what started people following em ,still a great sound, better than alot of there new stuff, buts thats just my opinion.

  • Havia muitas pessoas (Have very peoples).Não foi neste(this) show que U2 abriu(open) para The Police ?

  • U2 were obviously influenced by Joy Division and having Hannett around made things even more obvious. One of the criticisms of the band is that they sound too much like their influences, followers rather than leaders, and this is a classic example, yet it is a very good track! Had Hannett kept his act together, U2 would of made much better records in the early 1980's, but they wouldn't of sold as many. So you pay your money and you takes your choice...

  • @djh29971 what can you expect - they were just turning 20 at the time. and the punk and post punk formula was pretty simple, so they merely went along with it at the beginning. but they knew they needed to grow out of it and did, starting with "War". Listen to Altered Images - "I Could Be Happy" could easily be an early U2 song.

  • como se nota el sonido Martin Hannett y la influencia de joy Division. Aún se podía soportar la voz de Bono, alias el grajo.

  • Legendary stuff, before the rot set in after the classic, War...

  • LOVE the song :D HATE bonos dancing moves in the beginning XD

  • This is live at Leixlip Castle, July 1980, not 1981 as it says on the video. And, among some U2 collectors, the live audio is available, I used to have it. It's a little rough.

  • I love the title:

     "OFFICIAL video"

    And the description:

    "UNOFFICIAL music video"

  • David cameron the corn law king of england . Could the english become republican ?

  • I love U2, but this is just crap.

  • @Fabbesson why?

  • @MichaelD8393 Quality sucks, but I can't realy see what I was thinking of when i wrote the comment, it's not that bad, sorry...

  • @Fabbesson ok then

  • i LOVE U2 but this isn"t them!!!!

  • It is U2 it's just the original recording dubbed over a live performance

  • @edwardcullen456388 Actually, yes it is.

  • @edwardcullen456388 - Yes, it is U2. This is the original studio demo.

  • this version sucks so bad.. drums are funny...

red rocks version rulz... my fav song ruined

  • @dragannov, check out the OGWT version U2 did in 1981, it rocks Rad.

  • haha! who the hell is that guy and what is he talking about???

  • Totally agree Lew.

  • One of the best tracks ever laid down by

U2. I think it deserved to have a bigger

    profile.

  • It was huge, or at least huge among the U2 fans, in Ireland in the early '80's.

  • es una pasada!!!!

  • "it was the questions we had wrong" love that line! Love this song!!!!

  • hear the childre\n cryin'!!! ;)

  • mm, i see what you mean.

  • Wow, listen to that snare .. you can tell it was definately martin Hannett who produced this single ... "Joy Division percussion"

  • agree...hannett is sound like JD productions, but you still miss the point I think L>

  • .... i missed what point?

  • u 2??? :D

  • There seem to be many people around who don't know, that the first three U2 albums have been reissued last year as "special-de-luxe-editions", which all three contain a bonus CD each. On these bonus CDs you'll find all the early rarities: the "Another Day" single, the "U2 3" single, "11 o'clock..." plus b-side "Touch", "A Celebration" and many more...

  • yup, got em all on itunes!

  • Comment removed

  • Radio in America should play this early

stuff from U2. It's raw but the guitar riffs, which later became the signature sound of the band are incredible.

  • Favourite

  • red rock was the best .

  • awful version if you compare it to the Red Rock version

  • No, the studio version is the best one. It's sad Martin Hannett didn't produced more of their singles-albums.

  • meh, U2 would have sounded way too much like Joy Division if that had happened

  • Qui erano ancora dei giovincelli...xd

  • I really love the Edge's riff in this song.

  • I must've been drunk when I put that comment below. Seriously, I said that? Thats a stupid freaking comment.

  • back in a time when u2 was actually good

  • shut the hell up!

  • I love Bono's dancing

it makes me wanna dance :D

  • uhhh, the music and video don't match. This is FAKE

  • No, not fake. U2 really released this. Shame is, they are actually performing the song live.

  • Sounds to me like audio is from "Under a Blood Red Sky"....

  • Not...

  • Let me explain: for six seconds, the track is live, then all of a sudden it goes into the studio version.. also, look at the Edge's hand as he 'suppose' to be strumming that riff.. see anything wrong?

I the video is live however the song is a studio release. This is why I called it a fake. This is not the actually soundtrack to the live performance.

  • If I remember correctly, this is an official promotoinal video, albeit poorly conceived. The same was done for A Day Without Me, I think. Just a quick, cheap promotional video.

  • This is not fake you idiot.

  • Fantastic!!!

  • É bom demais curtir o "velho" U2

  • ale co to za przedmiot to nie mam pojęcia. natomiast pisać na YouTube po polsku chyba nie ma większego sensu...

    what means

"pay attention that in 15th second someone threw some item to Bono!!!!"

I see but I have no idea what item it can be...

  • i am a fan from 20 years and always discover they never down the energy

  • wow, my father was at this show. this may sound like shite but im distantly related to bono, from his mothers side, rankin clan, when my father and mum were dating he met bono in 1981 even, we have an old autographed photo of the band. u2 is my favorite band!+im only 14...

  • well, i can only say my favorite band is u2.

    but im 12^^

  • This is not 1981

  • You can tell very easily because Edge has gotten his hair cut shorter since the "Feedback" or "The Hype" days.

  • zwróćcie uwage, że w 15 sekundzie ktoś rzucił w kierunku Bona jakiś przedmiot!!!!

  • ...black hair...

    amazing song

  • 1 van hun beste nummers live jammer dat ze het niet meer spelen live maar wie weet lezen ze dit ook en kunnen ze Nederlands

  • Ja. Wie weet. Je kunt ook Engels leren.

  • that was awesome! I've said it before--this is my favorite U2 song ever...the "say so's" were especially beautiful.=] hahaha thanks for posting!

  • "say so's"?????

  • lol but COOL

  • You said it!

  • this is awesome

  • This was 27th July 1980, not 1981. I remember the gig! U2 were supporting The Police, along with John Otway, Moondogs, Skafish, The Q-Tips and Squeeze.

  • You remember the gig? Skafish didn't even play that day. If you could tell us what mad antic John Otway did on stage involving a curtain, then I'd believe ya!

  • Ha ha! I knew you couldn't answer that you pedantic spoofer!Go ahead and call me more nasty names - it really hurts . . . boo hoo!

  • this is awesome!

  • The jacket Bono is wearing is the same jacket you see him wearing in Chicago street photos of the band back in April of 1981. Yeah, I'm U2 nerd...can you tell?

  • ah, i wish we could hear the live part of this vid ... that was hilarious, the intro was live, then the studio recording starts, both in different tuning lol
