i didnt realise there were so many awesome musicians around here posting their alternate 'better' versions before they go running their mouth. How nice to see someone out there not doing the typical 'American Idol' style of just sitting on a stool and singing (or playing some backup CD and singing over the top). I have to agree with some of the aforesaid comments. Your voice is beautiful. If you want the guitar, a very powerful instrument, to be a part of your voice you need to master the instrument. This is a very well written song, which includes many imperative hammer ons, harmonics, and a beautiful tuning for specific chords. Singing well is one thing, to stand out, to play and sing making one voice is another.
*Guitar part: Accurate enough chords played in standard tuning, but needs much better right-hand technique and dynamic, and ideally of course needs to be played per Mayer's beautiful non-standard tuning. The labored strumming here hurts this performance.
*Interpretation: Nothing to get excited about - but then the majority of Mayer's own renditions of this tune aren't either. The Live LA rendition is a masterpiece, though - he'll never top that.

I have to agree with some of the aforesaid comments. Your voice is beautiful. If you want the guitar, a very powerful instrument, to be a part of your voice you need to master the instrument. This is a very well written song, which includes many imperative hammer ons, harmonics, and a beautiful tuning for specific chords. Singing well is one thing, to stand out, to play and sing making one voice is another.

*Voice quality: On up there - very nice.
*Guitar part: Accurate enough chords played in standard tuning, but needs much better right-hand technique and dynamic, and ideally of course needs to be played per Mayer's beautiful non-standard tuning. The labored strumming here hurts this performance.
*Interpretation: Nothing to get excited about - but then the majority of Mayer's own renditions of this tune aren't either. The Live LA rendition is a masterpiece, though - he'll never top that.

Yeah, please add the REAL guitar part. Your voice is great and sing it right, but you'll never come close to the true soul of the song as long as don't play the guitar part right. It's as much a part of the song as the singing.

lol.. definitely my favourite song by mayer as well... i can tell you she sings great but she's playing it wrong on guitar.. even tho shes playing it wrong on guitar, she's interpreted her own version of it.. its not that bad..

It's a cover. Covers don't have to follow the studio version to a T. People can put their own spin on a song.
