I've contacted Ed Sullivan (just type his name with a com after it) and asked them to make The Kim Sisters' performances available. On the website, they mention The Kim Sisters as having been on the show 25 times. I can't get enough of The Kim Sisters. Thank you for posting this.
Maybe they'll make the performances available if enough people express an interest.
SOFA Productions (Andrew Solt) has all of the KS video appearances on "The Ed
Sullivan Show". But they stubbornly refuse to let any out....probably because there's such a limited market. Technically, those should be "Fair Use"....however,nobody else except Sue Kim (she told me once) has those old 1" videotapes. At that time (pre-1975) there were no VCR's, and few had the means to record with VTR's!
I commented earlier but I wanted to rewrite my comment because I know a more of my Korean side than previously. My mom's aunts and uncles the Kim Sisters and the Kim Brothers, were the children of 이 난영 (Lee Nan-young) and 김 해송 (Kim Hae-sung). "You aren't Korean if you don't know who they are." Sadly, both Lee Nan-young (my grandmother) and Asia Kim (my great aunt, also one of the Kim sisters) died earlier and my great grandfather (Kim Hae-sung) was captured by North Korea during the war.
I've never heard of these girls until now and aren't they just so beautiful in both the physical and audible sense :) I will need to research them more and i hope they are all still alive and happy.
...and I saw this band live in mid-1982 at a long-defunct Santa Ana (CA.) club called "Kono Hawaii" [sic]. Danny Sawyer said there were also unreleased KS recordings... didn't quite have their English diction down yet.Monument (a country-western label) and also King Records kind of didn't know what to do with this act....they should have been even MORE famous than they were! BTW,there was also a June Kim,in the Eighties, replaced Mia (who'd married percussionist Tommy Vig).
There's also an album on Makaha Records (which was available only in Hawaii)
called "The Kim Sisters and Kim Brothers,Live!" Do you have that one? If not,I
can eventually get around to putting the music from my cassette (dubbed in Oahu
in the Eighties) onto YouTube. This was a remarkable band, which could even play(in concert) electric guitars (including steel) unheard of for women back then!Their onetime manager,Danny Sawyer, said that they didn't play the instruments on their records...
@RonaldVaughan The Kim Sisters and Brothers knew over 30 instruments, all self taught. ^^ We (they) have music running through their (and my) blood. Their parents were the most famous (and still) in all of Korea.
Angels from heaven.....I remember these ladies, and the material they chose is just fine! Such beautiful voices and harmonies! twilight4ev65, I bet you're very proud!
This is George, from The Rhythm Masters. We worked the lounge @ Harrah's Club in both Reno & Tahoe back in '63-'65 with The Kim Sisters. Was a delight knowing them. Very talented ladies. Are the girls still around or in the music biz?
