As a Japanese, I feel totally humiliated and inadequate that we are getting further behind. Our record is far below 574 km/h and only stands at 443 km/h. I very much doubt that our railway companies will do anything about this ongoing defeat.

Absolutely fantastic!! I love the TGVs. It's wonderful, that the French are so passionate about the incredibly famous TGV. I am personally so delighted that they achieved such an incredible record with conventional train.
