Well Gta IV is a octacore game my friend,with an extreme edition from intel i7 myabe can run it well,but if you want an extreme gaming experience then you need an octacore,I know there isn't even one out to public but in 3 months the first ones from AMD and Intel are comming to public

Another question: How smooth does the system run for heavy processing tasks that don't take advantage of the GPU? For example, can you still multitask if you're running something else that maxes out the CPU?

A lot of what you are talking about is dependent on system RAM. The highest amount of RAM that I've ever had utilized at a single time "besides stress testing" was around 5GB. So, there was 1GB left, and the system responded and ran as if there were 5GB left --> flawlessly.

I never have slowdowns. Everything is "always" instantaneous.

Well, what I'm talking about is a feature in DX11 that lets the GPU assist the CPU when it's under load (In any environment).

Is it possible that you're getting higher FPS with two cards because of DX11's GPGPU? If this game is really strenuous on the CPU that could be the case, in which your third card could be used independently for helping the CPU. Just a thought.

Starting with the 9.12 WHQL drivers, my 3rd GPU now works WONDERS in Dirt 2 :) They fixed whatever scaling problem was occurring, and I am extremely happy.

You can only CF a maximum of 4 GPUs. The same goes for SLI. Therefore, one can only have "2" 5970s hooked up for Quad-Fire.

Now, if you built your rig primarily for F@H, you can have as many GPUs as you can fit on your motherboard installed. They will not however be in SLI or CF, well only a maximum of 4 of x (however GPUs installed).

Actually, 2 5970`s ( a total of 4 GB RAM) is faster than 2 ASUS ROG MARS ( one ASUS ROG MARS is two GTX 285`s built

together with 2 GB RAM each; so a 4 GB RAM card each; two cards, a total of 8 GB RAM). That`s nice! xD

there's 2gb in total on one card. not 4gb. plus of course 3 to 4 doesn't work right. but if you have 4 5870's in dirt2 vs. 2 5970's 5870's win.

@brotherofhumanity, CrossFire doesn't work that way (neither does SLI). You don't pool the VRAM from all the cards in your system. Each card has the same data in its VRAM, so you only have 1GB of VRAM available to you regardless of how many 5870s or 5970s you have in your rig.

I have it maxed out (but DX10 though) on my E6750, 4GB 667Mhz RAM (bad, I know) and an HD4890, this game isn't as demanding as I thought it would be. 8x AA? Not a problem, butter smooth. Far Cry 2 aswell, but not GTA IV, I hate rockstar for what they've done with that port :'(

im happyer with my 5860 cuz there is alot more overclocking capeability than 5870.... I got mine up to 1ghZ gpu clock and 1100 Mem clock + 1290+ voltage :)

I don't know how you figure there is more OC'ing potential.

I only need 1.25v to get 1000/1295 stable which puts me at less voltage needed at 780mhz higher RAM effective than you...

Also, the 5870 has 160 more stream processors which helps out a little bit.

I've seen higher OCs on the 5870s than I have on the 5850 cards under water and extreme cooling, and this is probably due to the 5870 chips being HIGHER BINNED.

You are 100% "incorrect" about the overclocking potential.

it pretty funny that u actually wanna use 3 5870 when 2 gives you way over 60fps, which i think is the ultimate peak ^^ any higher is appropriate for a very fast-pased fps game like quake ^^ but ofcourse, if you payed for 3 you ofcourse want them to work... :)

I heard that Call Of Duty: World At War has alot of micro stuttering with crossfire. Could you post a videos of COD:WAW in the coop level with the TANKS. Cause i play alot of COD:WAWand if its running well with crossfire, i will get the 5970. Thanx man, continu with the great vids. Hopefully you can do a vid of COD:WAW
