  • alright if they where in communication with each other i dont see the problem.

If you buzz a real plane with you RC plane though you deserve to go to jail or a heavy fine

  • hahaha! Well, the plane can carry 2 and go for a few hours.

  • @miksta115 true, true. thanks for viewing

  • Stealh: I was on the ground.

  • The guy in the cessna thinks he's real fast, and then he sees a little rc plane pass him, FUUUUUUUU-

  • @rhinogek I should mount another wireless video system on my 120 MPH mustang and really kick his butt!! lmao what do you think?

  • @lvsupertech yeah, then you get into an air race, and he gets beat by a little plane. lol

  • @rhinogek lmao ha

  • @lvsupertech It's so depressing that litterally everything is faster than a cessna 150.

  • @rhinogek Ha ha!

  • @lvsupertech the title of your video is really funny

the cessna guy will be like wtf?

  • so you were inside the full scale with the goggles and TX controlling the R/C ??

  • hahaha i love it i love your FPV videos too i really want to get into RC flying and grab a setup like you have. Im one of these people who just loves all aspects of flying and RC flight looks great. Ive only ever used my dad's a few times but im starting to get hooked on the idea of getting my own. What sort of cost am i looking at for FPV? Thanks.

  • @Greataardvark entry level about $650.00 USD includes one RX one patch antenna for the RX, video tx with camera. the antenna for tx and goggles. You will need a e cell at least I recommend 1400 lipo 4 or 8 c I found hobby kings turnigy TX pack 1450 works great!

  • How do you fly that far? Wouldn't your plane be out of radio range?

  • @frambesbuckeye About 3 to 4 mile range with Radio FM 72 MHZ video about sa,e or more

  • very cool screw all the legalities. Your out in the desert and SAFELY coordinated it with all involved parties. be smart and safe let the government focus on it's own problems. Once they have everything running smoothly in their own back yard they can start impeding on other things.

  • @SNDNGRKLR Thank you for a great comment!! Thanks also for your support too.

  • Watch out for those wingtip vortices from the Cessna :P

  • Meh - I've had birds overtake me while I was flying a Cessna 150M!

    (Tongue-in-cheek – Nice video work.)

  • ha cool !!

  • Not only dangerous, but illegal and childish, could encompase to high a cost to RC modeling in Hawai.

    Borincaneeer

    from sunny Puerto Rico

  • Who said it was illegal? The FAA does not recommend this. However we both were on radio contact and know our positions I know this cessna pilot. What are you saying about Hawaii?

  • Lol, I know what to do next time I have a couple grand lying around :P

Is it possible to secure everything (bubble cockpit, sealant all around the equipment chamber, and synthetic rather than metal on anything you can that's exposed) so that it would be good for water landings? I can't think of a better place for this than the outer banks, and there are many sheltered places for takeoff and landing where the water is almost always glassy. But salt water and expensive electronics don't mix

  • Yoruyonaka; I have flown FPV with a float plane on Lake Mead. I have posted a video a few years back on this. Short distance, not high

  • Nice j ob, man, Fuck the AMA, they're nobody...unless you are into sanctioned events.

  • Remember AMA is secondary insurance. Claims falls on your homeowners insurance. You need a lawyer if your plane hits someone and property even though you are an AMA menber. I know several people here who did not renew their membership, after what AMA did to me. Las Vegas AMA district 10 PERSON is hell bent on FPV flying! It is here to stay! Greg and a few made up stories allegations. I was SUSPENDED FOR 2009 NO FACTS

  • Asking again, "Also, nice music. Do you have a large Ambient/Electronic collection"?

  • Eh??

  • Just curious, I'm a Private Pilot and only fly the little planes myself. I've seen some videos where the planes fly 2,000 feet + and into clouds. Are these flights at fields which are marked on an aeronautical map? Or can you literally fly anywhere? I saw a vid of an RC plane over Lake Mead at an altitude I would easily be flying at in a C-172. What precautions (other than eyes and ears) do you guys take? We like to punch in & out of clouds too even though it isn't technically legal.

  • I'd bet they take the same precautions as you do. Punching in and out probably comes with many risks, as does punching with a RC. Besides the prop, what damage could a tiny RC plane do to you?

    Just curious. No hostility.

    ........rob

  • Hey Rob, Good question. RC planes are dangerous because they are small. When we're looking out for other aircraft or flocks of birds we know where and how to look. But even a big fast moving plane can creep up on you real quick. The danger of an RC plane would be it hitting the cessna at a weak spot; say the vertical or horizontal stabilizer. A cessna might survive a main wing strike or head on but 5lbs of balsa at a 200 knot closing speed would destroy an aircraft's empennage. Makes me nervous!

  • to my understanding from the FAA, there will be guidlines for FPV flying. onboard equipment, that must past inspection. I required COA to fly in a called ahead precoordinate, I am learning of which a need to know. So you full scalers up there are aware of us and know to diviate somewhat around and also an altitude above or below ours at the times we will know. soon for now i will call in check on ok or not. There is an are where they recommend Ivanpah Cali and NV border for us.

  • Can do much. sorry for late reply. I believe what bridlingtonengland 75 says it all. look what a flock of birds did to that flight the skilled pilot in the hudson river.

  • @planetrob555 In all reality they are actually very safe. ONLY if you were taught by a GOOD pilot. i've been flying solo since i was 5 years old. the worse i've seen is an ARF big stick vs chevy 1500 at 70 mph. as well as a friend of my father and i cutting his thumb in half from the tip.

But other than that. its what any pilot looks out for. Weather (ie rain, wind, ect.), wild life, possible ditching areas with out civilians.

Hope i didn't step on any toes.

  • Well Brid: it was just visual; i receive word that i should not. So ia have not since. However; I will check in with the atc as to a precoordinate. So as other full scale pilots will be advised of our flying in a particular area. It given the ok will go up.

  • we all do cool crazy things from time to time. but I think it was dangerous not to maintain visual contact with the plane and trust the shadows. The full size was also enjoying his day outside his flight plan I guess :-)

  • We were in radio contact. And while flying straight We held our positions. It would have been better to be on his right wing. Because the camerra was on left wing. I have another plane with camera bottom of fuslage. to pan 180 that is 90 and 90 degrees

  • fk the ama, wtf

  • Here we are on our own. Thanks for viewing.

  • does this effect you if your in a city like lynwood cali i been to hawaii its fun cool and beatiful

  • I graduated from Lynwood CA From Lynwood hiigh in "74"

  • that's near Vegas right?

  • Yes. Want to thank you for watching

  • I think I disagree that FPV will not have a huge effect on RC flying. I think it could cause tons more people to get into RC flying. Wouldn't it make it easier to control the plane flying FPV?

Also, nice music. Do you have a large Ambient/Electronic collection?

  • Yes. especially with the camera mounted to pan both sides. You never lose oreintation. Plus the sun never affects you. You can fly toward sun.

  • And yes I'll agree that the AMA suspending you is bulls#$%. This didnt happen at one of their chartered clubs so its none of their bissness.

  • Correct. I have followed their guidlines flying at sactioned fields too. What started this crap is district 10 Vegas AMA rep who is hell bent on FPV period. In a phone conference a n RC pilots written statement, in saying that I was flying safely was altered with his signature. So in the conference there were more for me then the opposition. That person withdrew his altered statement. But even so the AMA still suspended my membership. For 2009

  • Who cares?

Find somewhere safe to fly where you won't get reported for it, and thats that.

I mean, really, how are you going to get in trouble for it, as long as you are not blatant and the property owner is fine (won't report it). Don't stand around w/ your gear in open sight of the road, preferably don't land that wy either, and do your high flying as far away as your area/equipment permits. What, are they gonna tail it w/ a police helicopter? :D

  • I agree. after this flight, a person from the FAA mentioned that it is not recommended, however do be safe. Now my cameras pan for better view. we were in contact with each other.

  • I dont dispute the the legality here, and I cant say that this is even close to some of the bad examples of FPV usage Ive seen. I'm only saying that there is going to be someone (feds or otherwise) who will be looking for tangible examples that they can utilze in making thier case against our hobby. Right now is especialy critical since until the 2nd quarter of next year the FAA will be developing its SFAR recommendations to be sent on to congress.

  • Also take a look at developing guidline that will take effect probably in March 2010Civil UAV.

  • I do not believe that FPV flying will have a devistating impact on RC flying, however, guidlines, rules i am sure will be made. Say all FPV pilots underrgo an airworthyness inspection, and ok a fee, with a registration number on plane. Humm ok by me. I want it to be legal.

  • Dude I think this was totaly safe and I dont have a problem with this type of rc, but please dont post vids like this no matter how cool they are. You are just asking for it to eventually be used by some a-hole bureaucrat in washington who will cite it as another example of why they need to strip us of our god given right to fly rc planes.

  • From what I had gathered from an FAA spokesperson, the rules remain the same in effect for RC aircraft. For those who fly the standard 3rd person view. Discussed a possible FPV so called box to fly in. 3 mile out from center. Registered, and call in auto precordinate, for safe flying. This way the full scale aircraft will be sure to stay in their won flight plan.

  • So true. thank you for comment, vegas

  • The AMA has no business getting in your business if you were not at a sanctioned field. I am no lawyer but I just don't see how it's any of there business.

  • Your right about that, txfirehawk. yet they used this video against me in their dicision to suspend me for 2009. I have hear that some other full size pilot, claimed that was him in this video, and that I surprized him! ridiculous!. I know this pilot here. I thank you for your comment.

  • hi, nice

but... better put your camera on the other side so you are cheek to cheek with your buddy's visual.... and, come from below, so he can see you (he's got his high wing in between)

  • sounds great to me. thanks for tip

  • pshhh faa, laws, meh who cares. awesome vid!

  • Thank You! RYanln SD

  • Were you actually riding in the Cessna while flying the RC?

  • No, sounds like a good idea! flying by video piloting video headset on.

  • This whas just amazing!!!

  • Thank You cruelangeltesis

  • "Approved by the FAA"? Yeah, riiiiggghhhhttt!

Still, very cool and a nice video. One question, could the video camera be mounted either inside the cockpit or on the wing just above it to give a better view? Being able to pan the camera would be even more cool.

I suspect all of this cost about as much as getting a license and flying a real plane. ;)

  • Fait 2, Never said was approved by the FAA, however this is not recommended, when I spoke to FAA. This area is remote the pilot in that airplane is someone I know. The cost is cheeper then you might think. Around $1000.00 for Equipment. My other video plane, I can pan the camera. This one is mounted underneath the left side of wing. Thanks for viewing!

  • "HOWEVER I WILL NOT FLY THIS WAY UNLESS OKED BY THE FAA" That's what had me fooled.

That's really a lot less than I would have expected. No matter what it cost, I think this is awesome. And looks like more fun than is legal in many places :)

  • Sorry, i had not revised that. Will fix

  • nOT RECOMMENDED BY THE faa oPPS SORRY FAIT2 tHANKS FOR THAT I HAVE CORRECTED.

  • No problem. I still think this was great flying and a very interesting video. That must be pretty fast r/c 152 as I know the real one won't fly but about 55-60 knots even with full flaps. Of course, that depends on the particular airframe and pilot skill, too.

  • Roger Foxtrot fire for effect over--

    thanks.

  • lol!!!

    awesome

i dont had idea that an rc plane go to a real plane speed xD

  • That pilot had slowed down and used flaps. I had slowed down too. Still passed him!

  • whats the music the orb?

  • yES SORRY FOR LATE REPLY

  • Thank Christ you didn't flip out the Cessna pilot and make him crash or something. Nice vid though. Wireless 2.4? And what radio system are you using for such good distances?

  • We planned this with the pilot. He landed at our flying site. The next time will fly on his right wing and then I can turn camera on servo on left side of my plane. He will wave at me lol. My friend Ray will ride with him with my video camera. and take video of the RC plane on the right side of full scale plane. will post soon. Here check out video of Ray with my model following on left.

  • is that video you are talking about now aviable to watch?

  • No as of today 01-25-2008. Will post when available thanks

  • Yes Titled Part 2 Cessna 150

  • Me and my friend actually want to do some fun stuff like this, as we both fly models, as well as full scale aircraft, I have always just been tentative because I do not know what the rules are (we actually wanted to try flying the model from inside the full scale, and fly it in formation) Anything you know about this, I would appreciate, thanks.

  • This was planned out.

  • Correct me if I'm wrong,

    1) You're on the inside of the turn

    2) You picked up speed by diving at ~1:30

  • Well I somwhat took a shortcut lol

  • I Cheated inside to keep up

  • Heh, I shouldn't be so negative about my comments. It's a great video! GJ with the camera on the RC plane :)

  • No Problem thank you

  • No Problem thank you

  • Nicely done. Can you provide details regarding your FPV setup? Check out my onboard RC vids. Thanks.

  • Thanks Chris. If it is not windy this weekend I will fly out about 3 miles and about 6000 feet. I had done this successfully. I was about to post vid on you tube. The flight recorder had a problem. The camera, transmitter, receiver antennas, of course the video goggles about 1,200.00. USD

  • Great one !

  • Thank you ltay007. With the fixed cameera, we should have been flying right to left. Tha way I could have been on his right wing, and better view of his aircraft. I have another plane with camera mounted on servo to pan. Will try it out tommorrow Sunday the 25th of Nov.

  • Great Job Rick! Keep up the good work!

    Ray

  • Thak you Ray. Now the Nexstar his the camera away from prop wash, so no oil or dust on lens. Also camera on pan servo.
