BJ's is actually giving all the city council free membership's too. At one point in the night they discussed something like 'all in favor of free membership's for city council" and the council actually laughed about it and voted yes. showing me thats something that must happen all the time. The fact that they can accept bribes openly and without shame in front of 40 - 60 people shows me there lack of respect for democracy. Fuck The System!
i dont understand what is the real issue here? are they waiting to talk to the federal government b4 they make any decisions?? is this why its not happening cuz of the federal government... think about it... if it becomes legal to smoke.... then who is to say the hemp plant cannot b grown as an economic source of income??? its not only legalizing to smoke it.... it must b a bigger issue than all of this...
i like the sound of this and the information that is shown.
EVERYONE marijuana or as i like to call it cannabis hemp is a much bigger deal than just smoking. INDUSTRIAL HEMP is the real reason this is so hard to get rights for..... seriously massachusettes would make so much revenue if this proposal passed. everyone would b wearing hemp shirts/pants/shoes/ b living in hemp made homes... be writing thoughts on hemp paper. and all this have positive effects on earth and the economy baby!
We agree... but we're fighting one battle at a time. And at the moment, the biggest issue at hand in Massachusetts is ensuring that the will of the people is recognized, and that the law we PASSED WITH 65% OF THE VOTE isn't overturned by end-run politics. Once we win this, it's time to get the medical marijuana patients the cannabis they require. Then we can talk about hemp.
Yeah...... Illinois isn't decriminalized, like it "matters", decriminalization is not what I want, I don't want ME and OTHERS to suffer because of taxation, LOL "history"...... , and I will stay classy, but I'm not there.
Criminal record for life that barred MA residents from many jobs, for 1 joint? You might not care about that, but 65% of MA voters did. Taxation? Our decrim is not taxation. It is less money than when you got charged & now you don't have to do any piss test, criminal record, court, probation officers, stress, loss of jobs. Yes, history! Biggest marijuana reform win in almost 20 years. First big one in New England, big East Coast parochial puritan state with all the politicians against us.
Who's the pussy? We're not taking shit like you in Illinois. Time to step up like we are in Boston and get back. Doomsday. We won it, the people in Boston and you call us pussies because you haven't yet? Because we won't let them change it back in our cities and towns? 65% voted yes $100 fine, no more, no less. We're not pussies but making history.
i THINK WHAT YOU GUYS NEED TO DO IS KEEP GOING BACK TO EVERY MEETING. MAYBE GET INVOLVED IN SOME OF THE OTHER DISCUSSIONS, LIKE THE BJ THING OR WHATEVER OTHER BULLSHIT THEY TALK ABOUT. BUT YOU NEED TO HAVE A STRONG TURNOUT EVERY MEETING, YOU CANT START DETERIORATING IN NUMBERS IF THEY DONT DISCUSS THE MARIJUANA DEAL. BUT IF THEY DECIDE TO DISCUSS & DO WHAT YOU WANT, YOU STILL HGAVE TO HAVE PEOPLE SHOW UP SO THEY DONT CHANGE IT BACK!!!! KEEP GOING BACK STROING! THE RHYMING KID IS MY SON!
We will be back! At the next Quincy hearing and the next one after that! Patriot Ledger finally did a writeup today and definitely just the city line on us being there. Trying to discourage us from coming back! They still don't get it in QUINCY. They will!
Well... That would be all good, except that for some reason the Quincy City Council doesn't want public discussion on ANY thing it seems.... The 3 hours they spent talking about BJ's? Most of that time was discussing if they had to hold a public hearing on the matter, and was it legal to hold a public hearing without notifying the public.
i didnt see that comming. and im gonna have to agree with some of the other comments made.. i didnt see it coming but it wasnt like a bad surprise more of a random but good thing you know what i mean.
Shows how much I paid attention in there what BJ permit? That sounds like something I should have been listening to. I mean it's a pain in the ass to get a BJ anyways now I need a permit too. Fucking christ
This is very dissapointing. I expected more from Quincy govt. But you know what? they're just mad, just like the police that weed has become decriminalized. Their tough luck, and just like us getting arrested by police, THEY"LL HAVE TO GET OVER IT! ha ha .
Disappointing to see Quincy's leaders. and the BJ's permit more important than young voters in the room? A returning Gulf War vet can't speak?
But it's very inspiring to see it all.
undefeated, the people remain strong! Methuen, the mayor and city council, they showed respect for democracy and both for the 35% against and the 65% for. That's what you expect, we didn't get that in Quincy.
BUT WE WON THIS NIGHT.
AND WE GOT YOUNG PEOPLE OUT IN THEIR TOWNS! AND IT WORKED!
From what I gathered, the BJ's permit has been under debate for months. They bickered about it for several hours, and then had an argument as to if they had to inform the public about a public hearing on the matter. And then they basically said "So we got nothing done tonight."
u guys are taking the wrong approach to it. im not saying all, but most of the people protesting it were very arrogant. try to be more scientific. tell them why it should be decriminalized (besides the fact that 65% voted it lol). just try and show more class less swearing more facts, but be firm about what you believe in. along with the other people. they prolly think yer all a bunch of dumb kids trying 2 get high with no consequences. im not downplaying yer efforts im just being honest.
So, flippnbricks2o8, you think we should downplay the 65% of registered voters that approved the measure? Scientific facts have been beaten to death for decades, and isn't changing anything. Not that I disagree, I've quoted more than my fare share. But this is less about marijuana and more about democracy. Almost 2 million registered voters in Massachusetts approved a $100 fine. For the opposition to try to overrule democracy... THAT's the issue here. And a US Army veteran is just a dumb kid?
look man all im saying is yer not going 2 get anywhere by being aggressive towards yer local government on this subject. it gives them an excuse to ignore u. our government is too immature on the subject of marijuana. try this, send a formal letter of apology (i know u did nothing wrong) to your local government. in the letter state that you were wrong to organize a protest of that fashion and u wish to have a formal meeting @ your city hall. NEXT COMMENT
You shouldn't be talking what you really don't know about. We use the carrot and the stick approach. Most choose the carrot! Especially the larger cities like this where we can bring the people out. We brought them out in Quincy because of the city govt. And we are getting media and the attention of many cities and towns who are backing off! Methuen backed off, took the carrot, see my videos about that. We didn't bring the crowd for that one because they worked with us.
In the meeting state your case about the 65% vote. and urge them change the laws of marijuana in your town. whether its the fines or decriminalization. and if they choose not to take action then start a petition and try to get all those signatures from ur town and send it to your state governor. if that doesn't work then im sry you've been screwed by ur local government. im just trying help you. speaking of which obama said he wanted to legalize it anyway for our economic growth.
State governor is against us. We are undefeated, won big concessions in Methuen. Defeated them in West Newbury, Worcester. 90% of cities and towns are not changing the will of the people. In Boston and Cambridge they won't even think about it. Many like Newburyport are backing off. They are hearing us. Nice and polite and then if they push it, especially in a big city like Quincy, we bring them out. We pushed them back in Quincy, no ordinance, they are backing off of it.
Correct but the people, 65% voted that possession and smoking be treated as a civil fine of $100. And Quincy is playing politics not allowing their voters to speak. In Methuen, they might add an extra $100 on for smoking in parks and schools. They negotiated a compromise for both sides, allowed input from all the citizens. Not so in Quincy. The 65% deserve a spot at the table to decide what is right. Both sides should have a say, if there is an issue. So far, no problem in 99% of towns & cities.
Only a handful of cities have brought it up. And so far we are winning. In Worcester the city council said no additional fine for smoking in public. It's not a problem, we already have a $100 fine and it is working. Boston, Cambridge they won't add anything. Neither will West Newbury, MA who said no to the police chief. Most towns and citiies are honoring the voters wishes and seeing that this is working..
(Cont) This looks exactly like the same type of backhanded corrupt political strategem that allowed for the construction of that giant billboard next to Ace Hardware. They'll try to convene the committee without giving the public due notice, so as to prevent another outpouring of protestors, and then pass their legislation without any heed to the obvious public opinion. Quincy residents, we can't let this happen! Remain informed, find out when this next meeting is and keep the people informed!
I'm another Quincy resident, currently off at school but a buddy of mine brought this to my attention.
The way the city council handled this was shameful. The politicians continue to ignore the numbers that stare them in the face, and simply refuse to accept that marijuana just might have some potential for positives. They just passed the discussion of decriminalization onto another committee? (Cont....)
Carmelita, host of BayState Rock WAAF 107.3 FM longest running local music show host in Boston, supported question two on her show through out the campaign. The actions of not letting these young people speak is against democracy. We need young adults to get involved in their community and these paid servants, elders in Quincy shunned them and the 65% of us that voted yes on 2.
Methuen city council thumbs up, you treated people with respect. Quincy city council not good.

This is bullshit! I am a Quincy resident and was at the meeting. A few people on the sidelines seemed interested at the mass influx of people. I was asked if we were all here for "Marijuana" and there was a resounding yes. How can they ignore the majority of voters; the people that put them in power? They are fucking cowards to try and wait us out. If we supposedly live in a democracy, how can the 35% who lost change what the majority of people want?
The good and the bad about living in Quincy. Good people came out, bad the government wouldn't let them speak or show any sort of interest in why they were there. But you know the vote counted because they tabled it. Power to the people. I'll be at the next one, Quincy City council. If they try to bring out this ordinance, we're going to have twice as many there, Mayor Koch. Power to the people! Keeping democracy alive.
BJ's is actually giving all the city council free membership's too.
