Pretty much defines the disputes we still feel in our own times. Not all religionists today have the same kind of literalist interpretations of the Bible depicted in the film. I really do not consider that this film is anti-religious..just anti-fundamentalist. I heard a Catholic priest once give a lecture on this subject. I never forgot it. His point against the literalists  was that the Bible was always intended to be a compendium of faith...but was NEVER INTENDED as a science text book. Never.

You think god will understand someone not going to church? Yet many American fundamentalists...as depicted in this film...believe that the earth is 6,000 years old, and that the Bible is the "inerrant" word of God...on ALL subjects, including science. This is precisely what this film is about. So I ask you again: What are you talking about?
