The problem of racism stems from the fact that if you're white and you're in Melbourne or Sydney, you don't feel like you're in the majority anymore; your birthplace and the country that your relatives fought for in the war is becoming an Asian colony. When I visit home, it really doesn't feel like home any more. Cry me a river? I doubt it but one has to face what being an "Aussie" is these days.
To me the issue isnt the sheer number of Asians (mostly Chinese) coming to Australia, but rather the main issue is that these Asians do not really mix with other races in Australia. They tend to gravitate towards other Asians. This may lead to social conflict as because these Asians do not mix with other races or Australians they may not learn the "ways of Australian" culture. So what is needed is not to marginalize Asian immigrants but to involve them in Australian Culture.

There is no rational basis to discriminate against an immigrant simply because they are of a different race. I believe that following the law, hard work and the 'struggle' mentality are values which underpin Australian culture, not somebodies race, culture or first language. If we get more people like this- civil, hard-working citizens- we improve our culture. Asians are twice as likely to be tertiary educated, have established small businesses, and whose children happily speak bilingually.

The problem of racism stems from the fact that if you're white and you're in Melbourne or Sydney, you don't feel like you're in the majority anymore; your birthplace and the country that your relatives fought for in the war is becoming an Asian colony. To me the issue isnt the sheer number of Asians (mostly Chinese) coming to Australia, but rather the main issue is that these Asians do not really mix with other races in Australia. They tend to gravitate towards other Asians. This may lead to social conflict as because these Asians do not mix with other races or Australians they may not learn the "ways of Australian" culture. So what is needed is not to marginalize Asian immigrants but to involve them in Australian Culture.

There is no rational basis to discriminate against an immigrant simply because they are of a different race. I believe that following the law, hard work and the 'struggle' mentality are values which underpin Australian culture, not somebodies race, culture or first language. If we get more people like this- civil, hard-working citizens- we improve our culture. Asians are twice as likely to be tertiary educated, have established small businesses, and whose children happily speak bilingually.
