I definitely agree that the original is better. Having said that, I can't stop listening to this version either. And I don't mind the flourishes. They don't feel showy to me. I think they help fill in for the vocals, etc, and allow the song to stand alone as a piano piece. SW created a song that is so beautiful that either treatment is rich and engrossing.
@ronfo I don't think he plays fast for the sake of speed but to fill in the holes when playing solo (and also coz he can lol). It doesn't make sense to play the original version if it's meant to be played with the rest of the band
@ronfo I agree he adds unnecessary notes. But I don't think he's simply showing off, because he usually does the same every time. I think it's just his style, a bad but forgivable habit.
@MauroRincon It is indeed his style, and extra notes at the right times just make the whole more exiting! Complex music can be as beautiful as simple music, as long as the composer/ player does it right (think about all these magnificent composers of film music)! That's the problem with DT, all of them together make an orgasm of technical skills and virtuosity while losing the essence of music - putting your soul into it....
@ronfo Did you just accuse Jordan Rudess, lifetime piano player who attended Juilliards, of not being mature when it comes to music? Hahahahaha! Oh, the amateurs I find airing their opinion on the internet.
"Way to much fast bullshit. I didn't get half of this."'
Therefore it's not good? That's an argument from incredulity, and it's a logical fallacy. Maybe you just suck at understanding music?
@ronfo i agree, way too many notes, if he played on SW album, must have been one handed:) he killed this mood fooking big time. never liked DT, proof Y is just here.
This is no music, it really is wanking, thats y 'prog' label is an insult.

Lovely playing, I certainly do get the fast notes! Anyone know which sound Jordan was using in the Kronos for this?

He's a very skilled piano player. and he plays really fast
however once you grow up, you realize that speed isn't everything.

Steven Wilson's original version is really good (and yes i know rudess plays on the original)

@Croketas I never said don't add stuff. there is a difference between fills and showing off. clearly it was more showing off
