haha i used to think that, too, but it's all in application. mori doesn't use generic software. she basically uses an infinitely modified drum machine she created that uses rhythm, texture, and event loops. while DJs loop song samples (limited to changing tempo and pitch of the entire sample), mori controls every sound, its timbre, and what that sound does rythmically/musically. she doesn't just move samples and press play. she literally "plays" the laptop.
@thetopface I still have to understand this... I mean, does she actually organize samples and sounds on a piano roll-like interface or something, filter them and modify them, or does she trigger them with the laptop keyboard or what? what I find somewhat strange is that most electronic music performers usually have some kind of MIDI interface, be it a keyboard, a sampler, a drum machine, a turntable or whatever, while she just has her laptop...
i wouldn't say they were for pussies because they do contribute to a great deal of soundscape, however it would be more interesting to see and here other machine work.
A bit lugubrious, but I've been the performer in this case and it's too fun to do improv like this.

There is spacy music, and then there is Space.
This rises into the latter category.
