  • I think that if they make another batch of this, it'll be in 8Cr13MoV steel instead.

  • would it be possible to remove the springs on this knife thus turning it into a functional balisong? please let me know your thoughts...

  • @RazdrazChelloveck Im sure its possible my friend screwed with his but he says that he doesnt like it because the handles are too heavy or light i cant remember

  • I live in the UK and I think it would be illegal because a knife must be able to be closed at any on time, and I don't think that this qualifies that.

  • @BoJezy Did you watch the whole video? it does close. Not only does it close, it has the best locking system on the market. Listen before you comment.

  • @Sei1863 Yes, I did watch the whole video, and if I'm holding both handles how can it close, it must be able to close at ANY time!! So if it can't close when I'm holding both handles then its illegal! And research the topic before commenting!.

  • fuck u gavphoto2010

  • wouldn't it be easy for someone to make it illegal by removing the back spring?

  • i love russian reviews, they show all details of interest ans don blabber for 10 minute straight!

  • is that a butter fly knife im 11 but im responsible and i love homemade knives and wepons and plz a am a big knife fan

  • @TheSlimshadyrocks Once you can compose a paragraph comment without any mispelled words or grammatical errors, then you are allowed a knife.

  • @TheSlimshadyrocks If you watched the video, you would probably figure that out. But no it isnt a balisong.

You don't want a live blade, you would probably cry for hours upon your first mishap with a balisong. Besides, buying any sort of knife is something to take up with your parents, not youtube

  • please could you do a review on the cold steel paradox?

  • great review i love your videos

that looks like a mean knife

  • would you suggest this knife?

  • @nromando Yes great knife, alittle slow to open.

  • i like cold steels pockect clips!!!!

    thar better thin SOG!!!!!

  • @gavphoto2010 1st off this is an older video tripod works fine the camera has a ferature that centers what your filming so movement happens cant turn that off, but I have gotten a new camera since this video, just keep in mind I accumilated 30,000 subscribers using this camera, lol so didnt bug people that much

  • @gavphoto2010 cutlerylover is 'considered a reputable source'

  • @gavphoto2010 dude, what the hell is wrong with you, stop fucking complaining! if you want a good video, make your own!

  • say whut? a Balisong that you can't make tricks with :(

well at least the lock-up will never fail. I want one!!!

...and good Aus8 is not a bad steel at all...

  • I WANNA KNOW WHY THIS KNIFE IF DISCONTINUED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!ARRRRRRRGGGGGGGGHHHHHH!!

  • @kingofhockey01 i heard it was a clock dude my parents have clock it rings evry hour and is annoying

  • hey, if you havent already, you should make a video showing all of your knives. that would be awesome and i am curious to see your wide variety of collections. =)

  • Stab stab stab

  • am i the only one that heard the doorbell in this video when he was talking about the legality of the blade?

  • why are you telling people to stab eachother

  • i brought one of these ground down the springs. and tangs on the blade now works

just like a butterfly knife and still locks in the open position and works fine.

  • do you know if this knife is legal in california

  • you have awesome knife vids so um can you keep making more

  • No, its 8a OR Aus-8 steel both being the same steel. Ask Sal Glesser of Spyderco or the maker in Seki City if you want. I do actually know what I am talking about.

  • @thegeneral123 yes AUS8A just like 440C is in the same class as 440A, never heard of A8 steel...

  • @cutlerylover

Sorry you are wrong. Aus-6 is the steel similar to 440a, Aus-8 is similar to 440b and Aus-10 is similar to 440c. A8 is a tool steel often thought to be the basis for Busse Infi steel.

  • @thegeneral123 your missunderstanding my last reply, go back and re-read it, AUS8A is the steel used in this knife, period, IM nlot concerned with A8 steel thats NOT what this blade is made of, contact cold steel directly to confirm thats what I did

  • @cutlerylover

You are miss understanding me. The steel used is Aus-8 AKA 8a. You are calling it Aus-8a which is the incorrect designation for this steel. Its EITHER 8a OR Aus-8. Period, fact. Now I don't disagree that many knife makers get this wrong as well. I am just pointing out the facts. I am not trying to be clever or show off, just pointing it out. I did not mention A8 other than to confirm there is such as steel. I hope this clears things up.

  • @thegeneral123 Ok noted thanks

  • @thegeneral123 Im not a meteralgist so I go by what the manufactuerers say more oftne than not

  • @cutlerylover metallurgist?

  • cool vidz, are you in the uk? please reply.

  • ill feal good in ur hand plz reply i wanna know your answer

  • What type of knife is this? In general it kinda looks like a balisong with the handles.

  • I love this knife. Extremely sharp!

  • Aus-8 OR 8a, NOT Aus-8a...

  • @thegeneral123 That's just wrong. Aus-8a is also a steel, as is Aus-8.

  • HEY BRO.... IV GOT A COUPLE OF KNIFES THAT HEVENT BEEN REVIEWED ON THE TUBE YET.... I COULD SEND THEM TO YOU AND YOU COULD DO YOUR THING???

    SPYDERCO BABY GODARD

    MANTIS ISOSCELES

    TWO GREAT KNIVES......

  • @DJJimCowley

    Caps lock. Turn it off.

  • @zanuha Holy moley someone got up on the wrong side of the bed dismorning ! actualy commenting on something like that lolz.

  • @DJJimCowley

Thank you for turning your caps lock off. Also, my bed is against the wall.

  • @zanuha Well if something as simple as caplock bugs you so much then your gonna have a very disturbing life.

  • @DJJimCowley

All caps makes people look like idiots and text hard to read.

  • I have one of these and it's really nice. They are now discontinued by Cold Steel so get em while you can.

  • i cant wait to get this knife, i have been looking at it for some time and final decided to get it the next chance i can get it

  • Hey Jeff,

just wondering what the knife laws of TN are because i carry a different EDC blade every day and i dont know the laws. so if you could let me know that would be great

  • you are not allowed it in the uk cos blADE is over 3 inch

  • nothen beats the srk for style, sharp and strength

  • @channelsub2 Can't carry the SRK where I live in California, USA because it is a fixed blade which is illegal here. Then again, it's only illegal if you GET CAUGHT with it. Carry on! Pun intended.

  • Unfortunately it is still not legal in the UK. I got my hopes up when you showed it not being a locking folder, but the blade length is the crux here. Being 4 inches, which used to be the legal max limit, it has now been reduced to 3.5 inches. So, Cold Steel, if youre listening/reading, make one in 3.5 inches, exact same design, and youre onto a winner (at least in the Uk that is). Decent review man, cheers

  • @TheEnglishRedneck45 Buy it and then have a machine shop regrind the blade to three inches. the handle will be longer than neccessary but you will be legal and have a super secure "locking" mechanism. Plus you will have the added benefit of extra leverage, given the fact that the blade is shorter than the handle.

  • @scottharriger Thank you for the consisderate advice, however now, the UK law is under 3 inches, non locking knife. This blade is 4 inches - so illegal for public carry in England. It's such a shame, I have so many locking knives, but all illegal due to the lock. I'm getting a legal carry Spyderco, so at least then I'll express the rights of the UK citizen. Thank you for the adviice though - I'd definetly get this reground.

  • @TheEnglishRedneck45 okay, so grind it to UNDER 3 inches. Problem solved!

  • @scottharriger Amen man - apologies for my last response comment, beer is a terrible vice. The only option is a reging for inches at £20. Would you recommend the Spyderco UKPA lightweight at £46 instead?

  • @TheEnglishRedneck45 I'm not sure what the funny looking "L" stands for (Lira??) or what "reging" is (grinding??). If it was my knife I would go out to the garage and grind the blade down SLOWLY with an abrasive grinding machine/wheel making sure to shake the blade in a cup of cold water after every two seconds of grinding. I was a machinist in the medical and aerospace fields for ten years and that's how we did grinding. Or, have a professional machine shop do it. Get a Swiss army knife! :~))

  • @TheEnglishRedneck45 I went onto the Spyderco website and did a search for UKPA and it returned no results. If you are in a different country other than the United States of America then perhaps it will yield a different result. Sorry I can't help with that one. =o)

  • @scottharriger 'Reging' was indeed my inebriated spelling of regrinding - apologies for that, but thank you for your thoughts. The UKPK is also called the Urban - try that one. It is basically a non-locking version of the Caly 3. YouTube has a few reviews on it - trouble is it's £95, so around $130 over here in England. I'm getting the tiny Grasshopper in a hope that if I were ever searched, it would look less menacing than the UKPK. A recent case showed the police viewed the UKPK as offensive.

  • @TheEnglishRedneck45 I went to the Spyderco website and found the Urban. That is a great little knife. The blade length is UNDER 3 inches, VG-10 steel, and is not locking but instead a slip joint folder. Still has the pocket clip, comes in different handle colors, black, safety orange, foliage green and has the nice Spyderco shape to the blade and handle. One-handed opening knives have been outlawed now in a few areas of the United States of America. New York County for instance.

  • click the ball in the corner of the vid screen

  • @jackspezzle NOOOOO its evil!!!

  • @thunddude LOL

  • I'm sick of all the knife laws. Kids should not be carrying any knife. Adults should be able to carry what they need. I've just recently discovered that the Gerber multi tool I have is illegal, the blade is 2.5 inches in length, which is legal where I live, but the locking mechanism (provided for the safety of the user) is not legal. That's like saying a motorcycle helmet is provided for the safety of the rider, but wearing it is what makes riding a bike illegal. Its just wrong on so many levels

  • i have a cold steel srk fixed blade and its my favorite and best knife and has never failed me

  • ive own this knife for a year now and im using it everyday. it has not failed me yet. from the blade to performance.

  • Great review thanks!

  • i know California laws are pretty strict on knife and guns do u know if this would be legal in CA?

  • @DiezleDrummer the black rock hunter knife is legal in the state of california due to the springs placed in the handles of the knife which makes it really hard to open with one hand

  • @daggerman2311 California State law says that there is no length limit on a folding knife. However, Counties and Cities are allowed to make their own length limits for folding knife blade lengths as long as it does not violate the State law's length limit. The Black Rock Hunter and Paradox have 4" and 4.5" inch blades. These are legal in most places in CA, but NOT in Oakland, Orange County, Los Angeles and a couple other places. Do your research before you get someone in trouble.

  • @daggerman2311 Anything over 3 inches in Oakland, Pasadena, Sacramento County, Los Angeles is ILLEGAL. If you live anywhere else then there is no length limit that I know of. Please do your research with your own local law enforcement to make sure that you are in the right. This whole issue about the springs and all that, well, we know that it isn't a balisong by law, so that's not an issue. I am getting a couple Black Rock Hunters and grinding one blade down to three inches. I was a machinist.

  • @scottharriger Correction of my previous posting: Sacramento City, NOT Sacramento County.

  • @daggerman2311 thanks!

  • @DiezleDrummer The handle style is a non-issue. The handles are legal in every jurisdiction, town, city, county and wilderness in California. It is the BLADE LENGTH that you must be concerned with. In my hometown of Pacific Grove, Monterey County, CA, the Black Rock Hunter and Paradox are legal. But, if I go to Oakland to watch an A's game, I had better bring a 3" bladed knife, because the Black Rock Hunter and Paradox are illegal there. Check your own local laws or you might be the bad guy.

  • Even if the knife slips out of your hand or in the event that the blade snaps, the lock still won't fail. Best locking system on the market. Paradox and Black Rock Hunter are the two I am after. I plan on getting three of each one so that I can grind a shorter blade on one for travel into strict areas(3 inch blade for Oakland, orange County L.A. etc), and grinding a flat tip for prying on one for a tool/screwdriver/prybar style. These knives are awesome. The best self defense is awareness.

  • @scottharriger you do know that the black rock hunter and the paradox are not considered balisong knives and due to the springs placed in the handles of both knives which make them hard to open with one hand, so they are not considered a gravity and have the same laws as a folding pocket knife if i am not mistaken

  • @daggerman2311 Yes,I am well aware of that. I did not say that they were balison/butterfly knives. If you read my post, it mentions the BLADE LENGTH being an issue. Cold Steel Black Rock hunter and the Cold Steel Paradox have blades in excess of 3 inches, the legal length limit for certain jursidictions in California, such as the City of Oakland, Orange County, city of Los Angeles, etc. CA state law says there is no length limit for a folding knife. But counties can have their own length laws.

  • @scottharriger Okay, 5 inches or more in Pasadena is illegal. Also anything over 2.5 inches on any school ground, be it elementary school, junior high, high school or community or university college. Please read the other posts for more info. I am not a lawyer, just trying to help. :o)

  • @scottharriger I live in Orange County and went to the OCPD the other day. They said the maximum size for concealed carry is 4 inches on a regular knife and 2 on a Bali-Song.

  • i live in pa what kind of knives are ilegal

  • what is a cheap but good knife within 30 dollars

  • @Wetwillieproduction1 tenacious spyderco ontario rat 1 spyderco persitance kershaw skyline

  • dude what is a good knife thats cheap but good

  • i got mine for 34.99 for its closeout price from the catolog

  • i think grivory is pronounced like ivory.

  • can u easly alter it to be a balisong? i like your reveiws good and thourough and honest

  • kan u do a review of the sog fusion 2

  • UK cant carry greater than 3" blade

  • I think you said you lived in PA in a video so I just want to ask. Do you know if there is a blade length limit in PA?

  • no limit in PA for folder or fixed blade, but a cop has the right to ask why you need such a knife and if they dont like your answer I believe they can confiscate it...more or less anywhere you live if a cop feels threatened by your knife they cna take it, no matter what the law is or if that knife is legal...you cna always get it back later at the police station if it IS infact legal...

  • @cutlerylover lol...I had a "watch" called on me in a mall by a security guard because I had a gerber in my back pocket and a leatherman on my side....glad he didnt search me because I also had a small one in my sock...

  • @cutlerylover wow.. i hate that.. id consider that stealing.. bunch of asshole.

  • I noticed that coldsteel always use AUS8A

  • @blackslay552 If you do send them a letter make sure u use spell check

  • may i ask how many knifes do you have over a hundred i asume? if you dont know will you at least give me a estimate? please and thank you

  • i just wana know why butter fly knifes are illegal i am wantign to write a letter to my state or to ever i woudl have to to try and get it's i guess lifted i just wana know what makes it illegal my friends knife opens just as fast as mine but all knies do the same thgin they stab they cut and they kill peopel why should look and assilibility be any diffrent form a standared loose flict knife comment back please i really wana knwo wht butter flys are illegal

  • @blackslay552

Balisongs are illegal because they were and still are widely associated with violence.

  • that makes absaloutly no scence at all there has to be a reason for it that's like sayign if every kid in there highschool started stabbing people with pencils then they would be outlawed no .there has to be a reaosn and i was askign for the reason. also a stalettio it is because the way it opens i assume well idk but i would liekl to know the"real"reason

  • @blackslay552 Thats the only reason swithblades are illegal for the same reason

  • @Beta252 No they are banned because silly people think they look scary so they should not be allowed to the public.

  • @blackslay552 knives don't kill people, they just help. ;)

  • really? i have a 20 inch katana that i carry all the time..

  • It's not a katana if it is only 20 inches. It would then be classified as a wakizashi, or a short sword. Also, why would you walk around with a wakizashi?

  • i know you can have lock knifes etc in your home but cant carry anything over 3 inches and no lock or fixed blade also go to cold steel website and look at the pepper spray it states not for sale in uk,hence its illegal here it comes under firearm act.

  • do u belive it is better than the pocket bushman?

i have the bushman it seems great. other than the blade steel it delicut if you ask me.

  • Good review Jeff. I have this knife too and have to say I'm impressed with it. Cold Steel now makes this model with a balisong type handle but works the same way. I bought it on impulse but not sure why since bali's are legal here in Alaska.

  • what would happen if you modified the knife and ground down the springs in the knife? it would become a balisong? wouldn't it?

  • I thought some people sent you stuff to review

  • the law now is (in scotland i know for sure) that if your caught with a knife of varity of descriptions gets you an instant jail sentance, also most stockist and suplyers have stoped selling knifes and swords in shops. it sucks :'(

  • gah i hadent realised it had got that bad, here in Devon i tend to go about with either a very well conceiled small knife (sog flash 1) or just a victorinox. uk laws are a bum:(

  • Every time i watched this vid i started to like this knife more and more...Hm i think i wont ti use it not only buy but carry and use its looks like solid knife for normal task that knifes are created for;)sory for terible anglish but its not mine language:)

  • AUS 8 is a useless crap steel. I have had so many bad experiences with it.

  • found this knife brand new on ebay for 30 bucks

  • any blade more than 3 inches is illegal in uk all lock knifes ballisongs flick knifes sword canes, push blades, blow darts, any nightshades from cold steel, even pepper spray cs gas all these are against the law in uk!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i am zee spy /:3

  • Stainless steels aren't my thing... Why not use coated carbon steels.

  • 154CM, S30V, VG10, etc are very good steels, what do you don't like about them?

  • I have an s30v native, it's great but it rusted on me so that was kind of disapointing. If I have to oil and clean a stainless steel why not just get a carbon steel. However I have not ever seen anything like the s30v when it comes to performence but it rusted a lttle on me and that was a lttle anoying.

  • Hmm.... S30V rusting? wow . You must take care a you tools, if only a little..no steel is rustproof, stainless should be named "stain less".

I always ensure my knives are dry and I oil them at least one time a week.

  • Ya I have been taking better care of it. I assumed too much when the rust happend.

  • anyone in australia have this knife? i know its not an actual balisong but aust. customs are fukn dumb..thieves i swear.. australia in general is an o.d..wish i lived in the u.s

  • There is an online store called cutting edge knives and I believe they have the black rock hunter. And I fully agree with you about customs! They bloody seize balisong trainers and even rubber daggers (cop told me once). I find it sickening how they always say they are "keeping these weapons off the streets", yet kitchen knives are the most common weapon and are pretty much up for grabs everywhere.

  • exactly.. you don't need a balisong or switchblade etc. to attack someone.. idiots.. they seized an assisted opener and called it a "flick knife" but you can buy a/o's legally in aus without a weap. permit. last week they seized a kershaw e.t from me and called that a "spring assisted flick knife" LMAO..and if i wanted to contest the claim i will be risking going to court and/or paying ridiculous legal fees..just for trying..does my head in..seriously thinking about moving to the u.s

  • Cool knife. I still wish that Cold Steel made actual balisongs though. The only balisong they ever had was called the Arc Angel but was discontinued after Camillus went out of business.

  • T.T crap. thought it was a picture. xD

  • i love ur videos man and i love knives and butterflyknives there my fav knife

  • "Good for penatrating, and, uh, stabbing..." lol.

  • by the look's of it it look's like an extremely sharp knife

  • glad u brought up damascus, i have a question:when u fold the steel it is considered damascus, right? well what about diff. styles damascus( "w" or "raindrop") is that damascus later stlyed with acid? or is it he actual steel just folded perfectly?

  • thanks for the info =]

  • hey if you have any switchblades could you do a review cutlerylover?

  • is there a knife steel that has great edge retention but can be easilyu sharpened?

  • i think aus-8 it has nevered failed me!

  • either 154 cm or s30v well s30v is kinda hard to sharpen

  • 154 CM has great edge retention and is pretty easy to sharpen

its also pretty rust resistant and not TOO expensive (but its not cheap either), making it a great all around steel.

Steels like S30V and ATS 34 have great edge retention and arent too too difficult to sharpen, but these are expensive

But i have a lot of Aus8 knives and they hold a pretty good edge AUS 8 is a good allaround steel

    hope this helps

  • carbon and damascus i believe are the best ones

  • tip, for people in australia, itd RRP (recomended retail price)

  • My Canadian friend by the alias proottalfain on the internet is all pissed because he wants a butterfly knife and it's illegal where he lives TEEHEEHEEHEE

  • tell him to make one out of a multi tool

  • HAHAHAHAHAHAHA fag. pm me for How to get it legally in Canada.

  • Indeed, since it can't open with gravity or centrifugal force, it'd be allowed in Canada too.

  • Paradox?

  • If you ever get the Safe Maker, could you do a review on it?

  • UK knife law you can carry a non locking blade that is under 3"!

    very annoying

Leatherman are classes as a tool that have a blade on it and can be carried as long as it is in a tool box/bag, it has being argued that a tool bag can be very small and fit on a belt and there for i can carry a full sized Leatherman classing you sheath as tool bag, quite what the courts would make of this is unknown but am sure it would all be fine

  • hey, im sure you have seen it already, but cold steel is releasing another similar knife in spring/summer called the paradox. do you have any plans of aquiring/reviewing one of these?

  • just a question, is your job to make reviews for knive companies?

  • no, he said that they are his own knives

  • what is ur favorite knife company?

  • acute points are good for penetrating and stabbing * hand potion of stab haha!* priceless

  • been asked MANY TIMES

    the answer

    probably

  • sweet review. im so getin 1.

  • Unfortunately it is still illegal to carry here in the UK as we also have a 3 inch restriction on blade length.

  • unless you can prove a genuine reason to possess it. like an electrician or joiner.

  • Yeah, however being an auto technician my Charge TTi (external locking blades) LIVES on my belt and I nearly lost it to an over zealous policewoman a few months ago whilst out at lunch! Theyre really clamping down on blade carry.

  • nice looking leatherman, makes me regret getting a crunch, but i wanted it for lath work and it works a charm, anyway, while they say yyou can carry them legally with good reason, i find its all about the individual, you shouldnt have a problem with a multitool if noone can see it, stick it in youre pocket when youre in public and you shouldnt have any problems.

aand most of the time the police dont know the laws. luckilly for me i havent had a problem with EDC'ing a knife and a multitool.

  • Lol, it use to ride in the Leatherman branded nylon sheath which is what she spotted. Swaped to a Berghause Tool Case soon after though, nice and generic.

  • funnily enough, a massive silver pocket clip with the words GERBER etched on it in a the pockets of black jeans seems to be more discrete than a leatherman sheath :P i swear, i wore the leatherman one and everyone commented on it, but didnt blink at the fast draw in my pocket.

  • i LOVE the shape of the knife

  • If you want a balisong...buy a balisong.

  • the blade length is too largeg for carry in the uk, even if it was under 3 inches, i think you still need a good reason for carry (self defense isn't good enough :S)

  • Utility's not good enough? If you're like, a plumber, or carpenter, or something where you'd use a pocket knife a lot?

  • i think you might just get away with those, but it's the same story with fireamrs, we can have a shotgun (not going into the restrictions) if you say its for pest control, but not home defense, wtf?! i think a burglar is worse than rats :S

  • You can't get around that, saying "Yea, I own a shotgun, but it's just for hunting" with like, a double-barrel, because yea, you CAN use those for hunting, but, if you NEED to, defend your home with it. I have a single barrel, break action shotgun that I use to deer hunt with, but it's got the madatory trigger lock on it, with the key in, so IF someone tries to hurt me, my sister, mom or stepdad, I can protect them, IF NEED BE. lol. Can you guys own mace? A face full of that'll deter ya, lol.

  • not sure about mace and things like that, probably can't lol, but if i ever need to defend my home i have 3 machetes and 2 swords next to my bed on the wall, luckily we have very clear self defense laws aswell, i have to use however much force i believe is necessary.

  • Wow. That's kind of extreme. You can't shoot a burgler in the body with a shotgun, but you can hack them to pieces with a machete. Makes so much sense there. lol.
