It is said that 30 countries have offered to help with gulf oil disaster. They have been refused. WHY? If the event has been planed, they don’t need anybody else involved.
There is a law that won't allow other countries to help because union employees may not get the work that they want. It is called the Jones Act. Only boats owned and operated by Americans can help if the start and end of the helping boat is in a US port. If Canada took a boat from Mobile, AL, skimmed oil, and then went to Cancun Mexico it would be OK, just not from and back to Mobile.
If you really want to help then support alternate energy and stop voting Repub. Drill Baby Drill will get you Oil Baby Beaches. These are facts people.

The environmentalists did make a big enough stink and were responsible in moving the drill rigs farther offshore. But let's not dwell on the blame game. Maybe they can mass produce those machines the costner invented and just filter all the water in the gulf but there is so much and it is so despersed that it is probably impossible to do much. Hemp is being used in Automobile body and chassis parts. Hemp plastics could replace most petroleum based plastics and Hemp-based clothing fibres easily replace Nylon (petroleum product). Also, Hemp oil is used for organic diesel fuel and biofuel. And it is non-polluting and can be a major step at weening the US off of oil dependency.

The biggest problem I see here is stereotyping. Many Americans see BP as "them" and, let's face it, much of England still looks down on "the Colonies." No matter who does it, putting untrained workers is any position is irresponsible, and it appears as though BP set up this "hotline" without properly training the people who answer these calls. It makes me wonder if it isn't just a token gesture, not really meant to accomplish anything more than appearances.
This is an awfull tragedy and BP has handle it awfully. But you Americans especially the conservative shouldn't forget that this mostly your fault, it's your uncontrolled consuption of oil, with your big SUVs and your houses so far away from the cities, that have putted presure on oil companies such as BP to search for oil in the most difficult and thus more dangerous places to obtain oil, in this case deep water. If you were more modest in your consuption all this wouldn't had happened at all.

@jase2007 One thing is using oil and another thing is abusing of it, most Europeans like me use oil when they use buses or small cars to go to work, we live mostly in appartments in the inner city or suburbs, few Americans use the bus, there are a lot of SUV's, and most live far away from the city on individual houses, that's a fact. USA has few friendly countries to get cheap oil from, so they take the maximum from their land, there's not much left in the land or in the coast, so... deep water.

The environmentalists did make a big enough stink and were responsible in moving the drill rigs farther offshore. But let's not dwell on the blame game. The real problem is occurring now and there seems to be no end to it. I am sick, I do love the oceans with enough respect that my father is buried at sea.

@Toddinfantry I am not sure there is much we can do at this point and stopping the leak doesn't look like it will happen any time soon. Maybe they can mass produce those machines the costner invented and just filter all the water in the gulf but there is so much and it is so despersed that it is probably impossible to do much. I hope for the best but fear the worst and the worst is a complete loss of an ecosystem in that area. As for what the gov can do they don't have the technology to do it

Question for you, why is the gov't (Obama) not out there, all over the TV giving a national call to arms. @Freethought42 I agree totally. Industrial hemp is not a drug and is produced in Russia, Ukraine, China, Australia, Japan, and several countries in large amounts. Hemp is being used in Automobile body and chassis parts. Hemp plastics could replace most petroleum based plastics and Hemp-based clothing fibres easily replace Nylon (petroleum product). Also, Hemp oil is used for organic diesel fuel and biofuel. And it is non-polluting and can be a major step at weening the US off of oil dependency.

The biggest problem I see here is stereotyping. Many Americans see BP as "them" and, let's face it, much of England still looks down on "the Colonies." No matter who does it, putting untrained workers is any position is irresponsible, and it appears as though BP set up this "hotline" without properly training the people who answer these calls. It makes me wonder if it isn't just a token gesture, not really meant to accomplish anything more than appearances.

This is an awfull tragedy and BP has handle it awfully. But you Americans especially the conservative shouldn't forget that this mostly your fault, it's your uncontrolled consuption of oil, with your big SUVs and your houses so far away from the cities, that have putted presure on oil companies such as BP to search for oil in the most difficult and thus more dangerous places to obtain oil, in this case deep water. If you were more modest in your consuption all this wouldn't had happened at all.

@jase2007 One thing is using oil and another thing is abusing of it, most Europeans like me use oil when they use buses or small cars to go to work, we live mostly in appartments in the inner city or suburbs, few Americans use the bus, there are a lot of SUV's, and most live far away from the city on individual houses, that's a fact. USA has few friendly countries to get cheap oil from, so they take the maximum from their land, there's not much left in the land or in the coast, so... deep water.
