Nice playing guys!! If I may offer some constructive criticism: try to maintain the tempo throughout, it was a tad shaky. Try to keep that bebop energy flowing. Also, the guitar player's technique is really cool, ive never seen anyone fingerpick a bebop tune like that.
well im a freshmen in high school and i have to play this for district jazz tryouts. mind you i have music, but this could sound a lot better if they wished to play this at a gig. besides, a its a well known song so they could have practiced more due to this.
accent... i looked it up in a dictionary.. it could also be to highlight or to underline. 'match from the key'... there is a mistake: it should be 'match to the key or tonality'.
About the spirit of this song... well...that's very difficult to explain...If you look at my video-answer:
(i think you are good musicians, but if you play such a song you should be gearing at what they( this band as,what i think, a good example are exactly playing( not copying what they are playing, but don't just play some notes in a convenient tonality) - it's all a well-meant advice. i think you as a band can make it better.
perhaps you understand what i mean. This band, The George Gee Big Band, in my opinion is melted with this song and this kind of music ( you can see that when they are playing there solos, which are much more impressive than yours - could be the reason, that they make music a few years longer than you ;-) and that they are 'born with the jazz' ;-))
the saxophone - i think the player doen't accent the notes right, moreover i don't like the sound of this instrument, but this can also depend on the quality of the recording.
the trombone - i think the song is played a little bit to fast for the player of this instrument, so he can't accent the notes right. That's why it sounds some kind of mushy.
the bass - well... in this recording it's very difficult to here what he's playing, but i think he always plays the accompaniment. It sounds quite ok, what he's playing.
the guitar - that is what is most annoying for me. perhaps match from the key, but what he's exactly playing is very boring and doesn't go with the spirit of this song.(i don't know if this is a written solo by charlie parker, what he's playing, but if it is, i think it isn't accented right.
if i could give you and your band an advice:play it a little bit slower and more like the classic version.
P.S. Sorry for the not too good english im typewriting, but it's not my first language and i've never been good in english at school ;-)
Please give me an answer my writing. It is in my interest to read, what you say to my critics. Perhaps you agree with some of these points in some parts.
Well, one thing I'm sort of confused about is what you mean by accents in all of these cases. I do agree that it's played too fast; and as far as the piano and guitar, since you say that the solos don't go with the spirit of the piece--what is the spirit of the piece? (I'm not too educated as far as jazz pieces). Also, what do you mean by 'match from the key'?
Your english(for the most part)is fine to me. There are a few mistakes but they don't interfere with being able to understand it.
I'm sure to your mother you are both wonderful. On the basis of this mess I'd say, to paraphrase Freud, the world is not your mother and will call crap crap.
Kids these days. Hell yeah. Yall gonna take my job...

@irockyouroll I offer some constructive criticism hoping to start an intelligent discourse and get this!
There are far too many morons using these comment pages simply to hurl abuse rather than to offer help and encouragement to the artists.
You probably work in some junkyard somewhere and think it's real funny when the guard dog charges and terrifies some poor kid.

OUCH! some articulation is required in charlie parker LOL!
The tenor saxophone played everything legato, he is probably not good enough for this articulation, you should have played something much easier...

for improvement purposes (I'm in this group), what do you see bad about it other than horrible intonation?

i'll comment every instrument:
the saxophone - i think the player doen't accent the notes right, moreover i don't like the sound of this instrument, but this can also depend on the quality of the recording.
the trombone - i think the song is played a little bit to fast for the player of this instrument, so he can't accent the notes right. That's why it sounds some kind of mushy.
