  • I'm glad you guys understand what their saying. lol

  • Ravi is such a master-what a great musician.

  • Wow this music is terribly Divine

  • This music is beautiful whether you are high or not.

  • you don't need to get high to listen to this music. ya just need to be one with ur iner-self. one mind and one body.

  • . . . La Vida es Abundancia, Abundancia es su Naturaleza <3

  • Great music!!! Paco de Lucia, George Harrison!!! They both know what is the good stuff!!

  • I Bet You Didn't Know That Ravi Shankar Is Norah Jones Father!!!

  • I'm feeling pure love. Amazing.

  • what does mangalam mean?

  • It's hard to do a word-for-word translation from Sanskrit to English. As a name, Mangalam means 'auspicious'. Mangalam is one of the names of Vishnu. It is also a city in India. But the translation for this song is: "May there be tranquility on earth, on water, in fire, in the wind, in the sky, in the sun, on the moon, on our plant, in all living beings, in the body, in the mind and in the spirit. May that tranquility be everywhere, and in everyone." Hope this answers your question.

  • @Ucchaishravas Thank you very much! It's a beautiful song with a peaceful message. I really like Ravi Shankar's music.

  • This is MY FAVORITE track from Chants of India, which I listen to every morning...

  • hey when was this piece written?

  • These vedic chants are as pure as honey as pure as morning dew.

My soul starts dancing when i listen to these sanskrit shlok's and with each word of it, it really feels like my soul, body, mind and everything that is described here in sanskrit is getting purified.

  • The only music I've ever listened to that shook me to my core. I had a very deep feeling of connection of living in India years ago, being crippled as a small child in a life where a mother's love and devotion was all I ever knew - but that seed of love was so deep it became a gift that could never go away and is the deepest root of love that I still carry today and can never lose, ever. - It really came very fast and very strong - unexpected and overwhelming. I cried with a feeling of gratitude

  • I bought it 8-9 years ago, it's one of the greatest chants where Hindu Rishis pray for well being of entire universe ... simply great ...

  • 45 people are not in tune with themselves.

  • This chants connect with every divine being in the whole cosmos, it touchs the most unadulterated in your self and elevate to the bottomless of existence.

  • my favorite mantra from this album! thank you for sharing

  • joy to your soul ^_^

  • Շատ լաւ է շա՜տ...

  • Mangalam.

  • its blessing all the aspects of life like the water, fire, the soul, the mind, life itself, etc

  • really very interesting and nice to listen to and to want more, greetings bert from holland...

  • pero cono ponganse condones porque ya son demasiados indios y chinos.

  • Even here I can hear clues to Paul's death in 1966!

  • Perfect song. Does anyone know the translation of the lyrics ?

    Agni mangalam. Vaayu mangalam.

    Gagana mangalam. Soorya mangalam

  • I love this CD!!! I lost mine years ago :( Still have the case..... just in case it turns up somewhere. I think I'll buy it again as I used to listen to it all the time and really miss it. Thanks for posting this!!

  • Thanks for posting this! My brother got me into sitar music and I'm loving Ravi! :)

  • the perfect chiller-song

  • I use this in my pottery studio before I start my days work/journey in clay

  • listening to this high as we speak.

  • @2ndXary Ive listened to this countless times its pretty amazing.

  • Why the hell is this in the Beatles Mix?

  • @InvaderSpongeBob Cuz George harrison produced this song, and he was in the beatles obviously.

  • @InvaderSpongeBob psychedelia...

  • This is really nice... does anyone know what instrument makes that drippy drum sound? Hard to explain.. it's a sound I really like. I am just assuming it is a drum, so forgive me - as I have no idea what I'm talking about. I first heard this instrument in Beatles songs around the time when George was first studying with Ravi Shankar.

  • @artsyfartsyme its called a tabla. its used all throughout traditional indian music.

  • It is combination of three Indian drums Pakhavaj, Mridang and tabla

  • @artsyfartsyme Contrary to what another poster has written, that drum is not a tabla (which is usually one of a pair of drums, along with the rounded, deep-toned baaya). The tabla surely did not exist until early modern times. The instrumentation on this album is more historically appropriate, I believe, and the percussion sounds more like a mridangam or pakhaawaj. Each of these is a long single drum with a skin on either side (bass played with the left hand, and treble with the right).

  • Sweeeet.... It's pretty cool to listen to this on headphones... those tablas got some nice rife going down, very groovy! Thanks for sharing. Peace

  • ahhhhhhh dang this is one of my favorite tunes ever. jeez, ravi :D

  • what does that mean?

    Bhoomimangalam. Udakamangalam.

    Agnimangalam. Vaayumangalam.

    Gaganamangalam. Sooryamangalam.

    Chandramangalam. Jagat Mangalam.

    Jeevamangalam. Dehamangalam.

    Manomangalam. Aatmamangalam.

    Sarvamangalam Bhavatu Bhavatu Bhavatu.

    Sarvamangalam Bhavatu Bhavatu Bhavatu.

    Sarvamangalam Bhavatu Bhavatu Bhavatu

  • @DZAHER It's in Sanskrit. Mangalam = beautiful, blessed. Bhoomi = earth. Udhaka = (I don't know). Agni = fire. Vaayu = wind. Gagana = sky. Soorya = sun (Ravi also means sun, BTW). Chandra = moon. Jagat = universe. Jeeva = life. Deha = body. Man = mind. Aatma = soul. Sarva = all. Bhavatu = may it be (i.e. may everything be blessed).

  • @waupelani

Thank you for clarifying. It's beautiful and peaceful

  • Udaka - Water

  • @DZAHER I think udaka means water. It does mean that in the Konkani language (many Indian languages share Sanskritic roots).

  • This is a cd? I got to have it!

  • thanks ,beautifull,

  • was in a Sikh store and loved the music as well as the chants and all was vegan, yes

  • wauw,geweldig,jy,hebt,het,wel,weer,the,best,for,me,i,can,t,live,is,living,is,without,you,me,and,mariah

  • I listened to this on mushrooms and LSD in the desert and it was the most transcendent music I have ever heard!! Thanks for posting!!!

  • @kearyjones that makes me very happy. keep on expanding :)

  • @kearyjones there are mushrooms in the desert ?? :D hahaha

  • @kearyjones

Чел, я представляю, какого просветления ты достиг!!!! Респект!

  • @kearyjones i am sorry that it takes you being high on drugs to appreciate such a work of art. i pity you

  • @sepentinesilke Why pity? The drugs help, not hurt. Art can be appreciated without or with stimulants.

  • @kearyjones Laughed the Moon... But for when Water became the Earth.. The wind... Took it back. Then the angel of creation came to me. In a dream, within a dream. And with her sword of Fire, showed me the way...

To Jim Morrison's grave. Where he not lay. For the true legends never die...

  • @kearyjones : Without Mushrooms and LSD, This is more transcendental coz the chants take their natural way to the soul and it makes one feel pure and elevated in conscience .. With Mushrooms and LSD, its essence and purity is lost ! Just the air we breathe is enough to make us high while listening to such powerful chants !

  • @kearyjones

This once again proves to me that the western culture is actually able to rape every other culture it meets.

  • @usuqamadiq

EH? How nice for you, that you're able to use this medium to tell the rest of us how much this medium sucks. How nice to see that good old-fashioned hypocrisy isn't dead, or unique to a particular area of the map. What, exactly, is your definition of "western" culture? Or do they all look alike? And what's your definition of "rape"? Last time I checked, it didn't consist of giving a talented artist a means by which to expand an appreciative circle of listeners.

  • @kearyjones you know what would be better? if you stopped taking this music as a transcendental music you listen to when you're trippin and wastin your brain and understand the true sense behind the chant.

  • I like the offset beat, like the origins of Drums and Bass!

  • Nice Nice Nice !

  • sarva mangalam

  • I know a lot of people won't like this idea...but I think it would be cool of M.IA. sampled some of this music in her songs.

  • Absolutley magificient!! can't stop listening, fantastic music, yet you praying at the same time! Thank you sooo much for posting this.....

  • magnificoooooooooooooooooooo

  • Bhoomimangalam. Udakamangalam.

    Agnimangalam. Vaayumangalam.

    Gaganamangalam. Sooryamangalam.

    Chandramangalam. Jagat Mangalam.

    Jeevamangalam. Dehamangalam.

    Manomangalam. Aatmamangalam.

    Sarvamangalam Bhavatu Bhavatu Bhavatu.

    Om.

  • Translation:

May there be peace on earth, in water,

    in fire, in the wind,

in the sky, in the sun,

on the moon, on our planet,

in all living beings, in the body,

in the mind, in the spirit,

May there be peace and tranquility everywhere, and within everyone.

  • @DWELLER06 huh?

  • love the OMMMMM at 1:01 ;)

  • Respond to this video... I hope you dont find this offensive but I just got off work and began to smoke (Taylor gang or die) and turned on a Beatles mix to chill than this came on. Just wantin to say I'm exploring this and it is a very positive sound, Im digging it.

  • Just need to go to India, breath their culture, love music and then....it all adds up!!!!!!!

  • I prefer George Harrison to Ravi Shankar but it's really of very good music !

  • I really hope George Harrison had nothing to do with this music...

  • also please refer to the Concert for Bangladesh

  • Sit down and zone out

  • this is not mine music

  • i LOVE the Tambala duet in the middle of the song, Indian music is SO beutifull!!!!

  • how the fuck is this related to the beatles?@!$?! anyone else click the playlist for beatl

  • @azny21 i did, lol

  • @azny21 I did too, this has nothing to do with beatles songs :\... It's still good but still >_>...

  • @azny2 - wah! something has happened that you don't understand! that must mean that someone has made a mistake! waaaah!

  • @azny21 Ravi Shankar taught George to play sitar. That's how it's related.

  • @azny21 Well, by the looks of it, George Harrison produced this album. He was one of the Beatles.

I recommend checking out Within Without You, Tomorrow Never Knows, or Love You To... these are some of the more Eastern-influenced songs of the Beatles. My favorites.

  • @thebinarybiscuit Ah, another Beatles fan :] Those are my favorites too. I am so happy George Harrison explored. He really speaks of the truth. I love all the lyrics to those 3 songs, those three have touched my soul.

  • George Harrison produced this album in '97 and he's on the background acoustic that plays one descending note at a time. On many of the other tracks he is on background vocals (barely noticeable), acoustic, bass, autoharp, glock and vibraphone.

  • Whoever's Indian is reaaaaaaaaaaally lucky

  • 40k+ views, wow :D

i actually expected Asato Maa to have more views, and it has only 8k. huh.

  • @MoragTong this is in a Beatles Playlist (I assume because of the producer) that probably led to all the views

  • @dv1429 hey, whatever helps to spread good music :)

  • such an excellent Sitar piece. Use this to introduce the instrument to those not remembering the Beatles oeriod

  • @lingh89 There's no sitar here. This music is much older than the sitar.

  • @waupelani the sitar and bansuri exist since around 4.000-6.000 years since the first humans

Jubal the son of Lamech is the father of bansuri(flute) and citar music.

If you do not know who Lamech is , he is the son of Metusaëll one of the decendants of Kaïn !

  • @Silverbluecrest 8.000 years i mean, sory

  • Thanks for posting. I listen to this cd all the time! It helps me get to sleep and clear my mind. Thanks to Ravi and George and the rest for a beautiful album. I bought it when it came out years ago and now have it on cd
