My God! What a wonderful place we live, with a great and strong people! It never ceases to amaze the strength and will that can be found here in Newfoundland Labrador.
He just pulled an even bigger acomplishment than that ...screwed upper canada on equlization same way they were fucking us by forming corpoorations to take their energy revenue out of the equlization formulas.....Three cheers Danny...a have not provience once again and proud of it...haves have to pay have nots get to KEEP IT...whats good for the goose is good for the gander..lets see the feds try to wiggle around this one...YOU SHOULDNT OF LIED HARPER...A BIG FUCK YOU FROM ALL OF NEWFOUNDLAND
well i tihnk its makes his statement more powerful instead of more politically correct terms such as you stated above instead he tells it like he thinks straight from the heart i belive thats shows true emotion
nlCallAspadeAspade has raised some interesting points... if that conflict of interest truly exists, then I would advise you contact the Citizen's Advocate of NL, whose indepedent job it is to investigate such things. But in the meantime, I really feel it was an uplifting video, and perhaps the comparisons (intended or unintended) are a stretch. However psychologically, being declared a 'Have province' makes a huge difference. You can enjoy the video, but still have C.O.I. concerns
When AB gathers millions do people say it is artificial..no. When Ontario got a new mine do we say their wealth is artificial,..no. So why do people continue to be so cynical when God forbid NL manages to drag itself out of the hole for any reason. Maybe if the remaining fish stocks went to astronomical prices like the oil had then we would say it would last forever and that we earned it? We should take what we can and enjoy where we are instead of feeling like we robbed our way there.
ShinyGlow...all I can say is never be afraid of where we have been. Be proud of the heritage regardless of the stereotypes. Be proud of where we are as a province and a people. Even prouder of where we are going:) Thanks to all that had a part in this!!!
Judging from the overwhelming number of comments to the contrary - it would seem Shinyglow is in the minority. The comments listed here show that Newfoundlanders and Labradorians are - by nature - proud of their heritage. And that was precisely what this video was produced to celebrate.
Thank you. I needed this. It is a boost to all of those that worked away and made the decision to come home...it's where we belong. As Danny said, "Wealth is not what you have, it is what you are" and I feel very rich just because I am a Newfoundlander. Rich in culture, rich in family, rich in friends, and rich with the blessings of this rough, rugged land.
I have developed a ton of respect for all those involved in making this video happen. makes me, a Torontonian, proud to be Canadian and if Danny Williams decides to run for Prime Minister you can be rest assured that he will have full support from myself and those close to me
Well Done. I believe that just having the song stand alone and having Danny speak a few words as oppose to speaking throughout the song would have been more effective. I say this b/c of Jody (I assume it's Jody singing) voice it adds to the somber but yet joyous undertone of the speech.
In this video I missed the words of the inimitable Ray Guy who wrote so eloquently of the day "when have not shall be no more." For the naysayers - yes - oil prices help - but wasn't it the auto pact that saved Ontario - and isn't it oil that keeps Alberta so smug. And as for education,I can tell you from trying to hire people, Newfoundlanders are far,far better educated than the average Albertan who walked into a high paid job raping the land, Congratulations Newfoundland always home.
My coworkers showed me this first thing this morning, in Edmonton where I now live and work. And yes - like many - I wept. I would have liked to see our flag in there - a flag which was created and launched at a time when it was pretty audacious for a province like Newfoundland to boldly shed its colonial links to England, and its tired out reliance on the culture of Ireland and even our debt to Canada, and stand out and be proudly, boldly, unashamedly unique.
Congratulations NFLD! What a great, strong, and wonderful part of Canada. I'm speaking of it's people and province, (and premier too!) You've won my heart.
At-a-boy Danny, take no God Damn crap from Harper or any other Premier.I Moved away in 1996 for work but this is great frigging news. Would move back in a heart beat if I could.God Bless Mings Bight!!! Peace
Thank you!! I am a Newfoundlander living in Scotland and am so proud to see this! I have always been proud of where I was from, even hearing all the Newfie jokes and jibbs. Good job - this is beautiful, nice job Jody, the song is fantastic.
f**k that brought tears to my eyes whoa 6 decades and all I can think about are those lads who struggled and traveled abroad all over the country so they could have something for their families clear across the country often it would be tragic like the bus full of young men who burned to death trapped in an inferno with a tanker on the tanscanada highway in Saskatchewan considered Canadas worst vehicle accident. Danny you worked hard for this good for you !
We are investing in education and technology. NL has one of the cheapest universities in Canada due to government subsidies. We lead the world in many ocean engineering technologies.
Oil will last for quite some time. Once the conventional oil runs out, arctic and offshore oil will become even more important, and that's where our technological expertise lies.
This is an incredible job guys... I love the video and lyrics... good thing you didn't get Danny to sing... somehow I don't think the video would be as powerful... though Danny did his part too!
I am proud of NF's new status but this is embarassing to watch. This doesn't represent the Neo NFLD that has recently emerged. Ooh pictures coming to life - its like a Telephone commercial from the late 80s.
This video made me so proud to be a Newfoundlander! Those who participated in this wonderful project are to be congratulated. It puts down no one. It simply states our pride in being ourselves.
I despise this moss covered rock that so rudely stands in the ocean.
It stands so rudely in the ocean, is why most of us love it. It stands up to the harsh beating of the ocean day after day, much like the people who live there stand up to the people of "Upper Canada" who look down on it.
NFLD it is one of the most beautiful untouched natural places on earth. Our scenery is breathtaking, and our culture is truly something to be proud of. I agree with tara, stay in that concrete jungle that you live in and breathe that polluted air.
I love the video; feels great to live in this province. We've been through it all over the years....finally we can say "YES WE HAVE", GOOD FOR YOU DANNY, excellent leader!!!
Whatever makes your provinces' economy run, and give you "have" status, is what people everywhere except, be it oil, lumber, cars, wheat. It sure did work for Alberta and it's working here in NL.

Great.
As someone else said, where the hell is our medical care? Where are the doctors? Stephenville is an example. No new patients, anywhere.
Where are the MRIs, CAT scans, and surgeons?
We still have to go to the mainland (Edmonton as one worthy place) for proper care and diagnosis... I can site several examples of this.
Also, there are few jobs available so we scrape and scratch for what we can.
"HAVE"? Really?

I love Newfoundland, but this boom is temporary. It's 99.99999% ALL because of oil, and other non-renewable commodities.
Just like the fishery, fast forward 20 years... Why not invest in education, technology, business... not oil.
