I'm probably going to get a thumbs down for this, but i liked Beverly Hills 90210 way better than Melrose Place because 90210 took a more realistic approach than Melrose even though both shows had bad cases of cheesiness. Melrose Place was another Dynasty with a lesser luxurious scenery.

Well, I think that was the point. Melrose started off as a realistic look at young-twentysomethings struggling to make it in LA, but when that didn't work ratings-wise, they decided to make it a trashy soap by bringing in Amanda as Alison's boss and made Michael start having an affair with Kimberly. From there, it just escalated into an insanely guilty-pleasure for most people. So, I do think the cheesiness and trash was all in the recipe halfway through Season 1.
