If you plant them in the ground, put in 2 or 3 shovels of concrete sand at the bottom of the hole with the peat moss and compost. They come alive with a fast draining acidic soil.
what acid based fertilizer do you use monthly on your blueberries in containers? If I can't find an acidic potting soil base, which organic fertilizer could I increase to lower the pH. Thanks
Very informative video. It is good to know that I can transplant my blueberries in the spring, I thought you had to do it in the fall. I need to move them closer to the house to keep the deer and raccoons away.
I got three small bare root blueberries in the mail and I thought their directions were a little too simple... I've had them in regular potting soil for a couple months and they have done nothing... can i still save them, doing this now?
This is the best video on planting blueberries I have seen, and I've seen plenty. Alden Lane Nursery in Livermore, Ca directed me to it; I can't thank them enough. Janet
@renegadetrainer Most often the reddish leaves would mean the PH is too high. So the first thing that I would recommend is a PH test. It also could be a reaction to transplant. This might be the case if the temperature dropped right after the transplant. In the case of PH, soil sulphur will help in the long run, a little feather meal could help to adjust the PH quickly in the short term. Hope that helps.
@DaveWilsonTrees Thanks for the reply! I did do a pH test and got a reading of 6.0 so obviously it needs to come down. I didnt use acid potting mix so maybe thats why. Would blood or bone meal do the trick as well? If so, how much per plant? Thanks!
This video is great...just what I was looking for with the soil I've got... plus a good addition to the patio... just walk a few steps and Bam... freash fruit at your fingertips!
probably the most helpful video i have seen for planting blueberries in containers. Then I replant my plants into large containers I will probably follow this.
I appreciate his very expensive cheating how too method of getting going with bluberries but if you have go to such a huge extent then whats the point is what I said when maybe I should be asking ...can this be done without the best of the best of the best fertilizers and materials or do you really hopelessly have no choice .
I really would like to understand if this a question or a criticism? If in fact it leans more toward a question. I would answer that not all people have ideal soil (PH) to grow Blues. This is simply an alternative for those who wish to grow Blues but have had problems with getting them going in the ground. In this very expensive Cheating mix as you call it, I have had productive producing Blues that have been in the same container for 8 years+.
Well done video. Would you please do one on preparing the field and setting up irrigation? I plan to start a blue berry farm and need all the advice I can get. Thanks again for your great short.

What brand of ph meter do you use? All the ones that I see on Amazon have received poor customer ratings.

I just transplanted mine into containers two days ago but some of the leaves are starting to turn a reddish color. Is that normal? Thanks.

@renegadetrainer I dont find that they work as quickly as feather meal, They are more for stabilizing the PH over the long term.

take it as a question although there is a certain amount of critisism to it ...not toward what you are doing but the cocktail is excessive .
