this song once destroyed me. I would drink every nite and play it over and over and over when my girl ran off with another man...funnily enuff she ran away on a boat.>>>>>> Bitch!
It's such a shame many of the more brilliant artists had mental health issues. Strangely though, it has some direct correlation with the creativity of those individuals.
Guthrie had several divorces in his life. Hope he rests in peace now. I think he would be happy with what Bragg and Wilco did with his work.
@Lotusflowerism mental health is very debilating but also brings out the best of creativity. Luckly for the rest of us. Would it be wrong to say, with all the agony that mental health brings to those afflicted, there are those of us that benifit from that creativity. We all suffer from some form of mental health issues and we need to begin to understand that our lives would be much poorer without people who by design think differently that the NORM. I for one feel richer
I knew of Billy previously, back in his solo career (he had many great albums)...a friend of mine showed me this album..and frankly, I'm blown away...this album kicks so much ass...
Every horror or suspense movie has its obvious DUH parts that make it in whole- a movie. The bedroom scenes where the dude has a loaded shotty and is quivering at girls in masks is the most DUH ive ever seen. So much so that theres no way under god that is one of the best horror movies not even close!
That's actually a live recording for the promo of the album it's on (Mermaid Avenue). I wish it was the version on the album because I like it a lot better.
I'm pretty sure this is the original. Even though it says it's a cover in the description I think Guthrie wrote the lyrics and Bragg and Wilco recorded the music for it.
This is it. Guthrie never recorded the songs. Just wrote the lyrics. Bragg was approached by Guthrie's daughter(?) with some of Woody's unused lyrics and said, 'would you like to put them to music'? This is not an actual quote. Bragg asked Wilco to join in. Checkout DVD/video Man in the Sand.
That film was shockingly shit wasn't it. You just feel like shouting at the guy to keep shooting anything that comes through that door!!!!!!! Really bad.
I drove up to Coney Island and took a pic of this house. This is one of my fav albums all time. Also took a pic of 461 Ocean Boulevard in Miami. Eric Clapton Album. I know I'm a loser, but it's sucha rush when Ur there. HOLLA !!!!!

At my window sad and lonely Oft times do I think of thee Sad and lonely and I wonder Do you ever think of me? Every day is sad and lonely And every night is sad and blue Do you ever think of me my darling As you sail that ocean blue? At my window sad and lonely I stand and look across the sea And I, sad and lonely, wonder Do you ever think of me? Will you find another sweetheart In some far and distant land? Sad and lonely now I wonder If our boat will ever land
Thumbs up is 'the strangers' got you here :)

Don't ever fall in love with a girl knowing she has to leave the country a year later. I wonder if that's what happened to Mr. Guthrie.
