The only reason this happened, and it's the most common reason you see it happen with the sabres, is that someone went after their best player. Hasek was the best goalie Buffalo ever had, even though he's a huge asshole. Just ask Ted Nolan.

I don't think that's fair. Ted and Dom never got along but I've never heard teammates that had issues with Dominik and I'm sure that if they did they would have voiced something by now. But GM Muckler at the time too had a strained relationship with Ted. I can't recall any problems with Ruff behind the bench. I guess different personalities were a problem of the Nolan era.
