But how can you assign a specific ringtone to a group? I have about 20 different groups - 18 of them work-related, plus family and friends - and on my ancient Nokia I could assign ringtones that told me if it was editors, writers, artists, etc calling. Not on the iPhone.

if you got a jailbroken 3.0 phone the easy way is use "ifile" from cydia.

1.record using the voice memo app.

2.use ifile navigate to /private/var/mobile/Media/Reco­rdings and copy it.

3.navigate to /private/var/stash/Ringtones and paste and rename the .m4a to m4r

4.dont forget to go to setting and change your ringtone.

dude iRinger is much easier all it does is asks u to locate the file an then u can choose which part of the song an do fade ins and fade outs an when it finishes it automatically puts it in ur iTunes ringtones section... trust me dude it is alot easier

well. the song is a matter of taste, but there's one very easy way to get ringtones on your iphone.

unlimited choice no cost.

NAKKO com they have on online tool to idt your clips and a lot of nice stuff.

and most important a simple synch button. cick once and all ringtones go into your phone .

I just installed the customize application on iphone 1.1.3 complete with new ringtone sets; but unfortunately, unlike in 1.1.1; I can't get it to activate. Anyone else have this bug?

The fact that phone companies trying to keep you from uploading your own ringtones is sooooooo lame. The internet is full of sound files, you have all these CD's. You could capture sound from tv. But noooo, don't think of putting that little sound file on your phone. Doing that will COST you.

You can use any .mp3 file. I edited mine in GarageBand to start where I wanted them to when it rang. But most cd importing software will let you import your compact discs onto your computer as .mp3s, or you could use one of these p2p things ive been hearing all about ;)

i was doing jailbreak on my macbook pro to but i think the membory just messes up the first time you connect it in itunes but i will have a video of my iphone firmware mod using jailbreak when its posted check it out

custom ringtones dont work it screws up all your memory display in itunes I tried it it worked the ringtones were there but it will mess with memory display so be warned..but nice job
