First heard this song about 10 years ago. Have increasingly loved it ever since! The album it came from - Harvest Moon - is excellent. I just love the spirit, warmth and humanity of the lyrics - so meaningfully sung by Willie. Added to that is the heart felt and melodic playing of Carlos - no other guitar player can communicate his emotions as he does. At times of happiness or sadness this song reinforces or restores my heart and soul.

I wonder how many of you actually realise that 'going to Mexico' is a metaphoir, and the song is actually about death, and the ending of all things. The singer is reflecting on a long life, and how his dog, wife and friends have predeceased him, and is looking forwards towards his own demise.

This is one song which always makes me emotional, today, more so, as I heard the news that a young friend, half my age was killed this morning.

I really like that painting too. I really like what you do. People think it's simple. But than they try and many times find out differently. As for me "artist" is a word bandied about so much it has become essentially meaningless. I do some "art" but I don't really consider myself an artist.
