The judges never appreciated their talent..I think they finally obtained second in a major competition... all of us real skating fans much prefer the passion of the Dushenays to the so called cleaner lines...of Torvill and Dean. Those were the days of excellent skating from the Russians ( two pairs) and the Dushenays and the fans loved it..nothing like the insipid routines of today.
Dean choreographed their amazing routines for yrs, bringing the Duchesnays to prominence. Torvill and Dean were world champs 4 times & Olympic champs, because with their ground-breaking choreography T&D were streets ahead of the competition technically. The Duchesnays weren't. Their Russian rivals had the edge in basic skating skills. So they only won ONE World Champ. and that in a year when the Russians were under a cloud after a drugs scandal. But they interpreted dance drama with great style
OMFG, this made me cry, the music is really touching, and this is dance in the sport of skating, this is what ic e dance SHOULD BE. they were amazing, just like stephanie rosenthal and her single free skate, wow just amazing and magical
@memuysexyfosho Yes, I agree totally with your comment. A special and magical skate, something to be remembered for all time. There is nothing like this now in ice dancing, as the new rules, which I do not like, call for other things.
What precision. They should have been World Campions over and over. The only standard still to beat - even after all these years this performance gives me the shivers...
They were far above any other ice dancers and were never appreciated by the judges but definitely by the audience! This is my favourite above Bolero (which I did really like). They should have won World's and Olympics but of course it was the Russians who (won?)
I saw this performance for the first time live 20 years ago. I moved to tears then, and the emotions still run raw today. It is my favourite ice-dance routine alongside Bolero... of all time. It should have been the Gold, but the crowd and fans that day knew who the real winners were.
I saw this performance live for the first time 20 years ago... it moved me to tears then and still brings out raw emotion to this day. Alongside Bolero, the best 2 ice-dance routines ever. Should have been the Gold medal. but there you go. The crowd and fans know who the real winners were that night.
Oh my god, this has just made me cry, again, as it did all those years ago. I ask people (not into skating) if they remember the Duchesneys and what I called the 'Tick Tock' programme.....now i have found a decent copy on YouTube I can't wait to show it.......this was their best and I was lucky enough to see them skate it live at Richmond Ice Rink. Thank you so much for this posting.
Actually his shirt is torn before they even start skating. I don't think they would take a risk like that - and they were risk takers-but not with blades and costumes. He could've lost his balance, they both could have been seriously hurt. It makes a good story but think how many times they performed this before Worlds'. Not to take anything away from it. Having lived in S.America I can tell you this dance embodies exactly what WAS going on down there in certain countries-not all but a few.
Aha, I did not realize that....And you have a point there...
I´m from Sudamerica, exactly from Peru and I can assure you, that there´s even more than what they showed in their presentation. Our countries are full with sad memories, dead and terrorism...but also with joy for life, enchantment and gently people =)
@libralady1010 If you watch the 1990 Europeans held in Leningrad-now St. Petersburg-that year his-Paul's- shirt was exactly the same, torn in the same place on the right sleeve. With such a perfectionist and genius like Christopher Dean helping/coaching them, there wouldn't have been an accident like that. The shirt was made that way
Yes this is amazing but i prefer 100 times more the torvill and dean performance to this. I think you feel more the haunting and missing vibe with them.
Though I'm Russian I'm a passionate fan of this couple. This is real dancing, NOT ACROBATICS OR JUST A SET OF ELEMENTS WE HAVE NOW WITJH TH4eNEW SYSTEM
Dean fue el coreografo de este programa ? como lo hizo el nunca estuvo en peru, soy de peru y este video me emociona ! quienes fueron los creadores de esta hermosa coreografia ?
Second half of the program at least is by "inti illimani" the track I found is called 'sikuriadas" and comes from the album "Lejania"
I think I found it by chance on a web site a while back and searched it on Limewire and found different version of it. Not sure about the rest of the program, but it is a start at least :))

Same as when Shae Lynne Bourne and Victor Kratz skated their Irish dance! Should have won gold and world's too...Russians won everything back then
