So far this year, there have been 525 murders in Puerto Rico, a number that is outpacing last year’s 983 homicides, the second-highest ever, and the 995 in 1994. New York City, with a population a bit over twice that of Puerto Rico, reported 199 murders through the middle of this month, with a total of 536 in 2010. Where are all the protesters?????Hello, do you really care?????
I took part in the arrest of Mr Olmos and Mr Kennedy that day, never got to speak to Mr Kennedy, cause of his status, he got wisked away to talk with head brass that afternoon, I did get to shake hands with Mr Olmos as we arrested him at one of the impact areas, he was friendly and cooperative with what we had to do. I also detained BIG Al Sharpton and the other dignataries from NYC, I was the one escorting them back on that 2 1/2 ton truck back to Camp Garcia, then down to the LCU for transport
Nice friggin Political staging Edward! There were 800 murders on this small island of Puerto Rico in 2008 ! Come on Eddie, go get Bobbie, Rosie, Jesse Jackson and protest that shit! Vieques dont mean shit to the regular working Puerto Rican in the main island if its in dissarry itself! Go stand in the middle of the street of the "Perla and the Casserios" and protest, then i will be convinced you care!
I am a documentalist.I taped over 2,000 hrs. of what happened in vieques the las 10 yrs, I can speak the truth. The Navy was making over 80 millions a year, renting vieques to other countries.Vieques got 0. Just bombs, contamination, deseases, and death. Any one who speak in favor of what the navy did here, are CONSPIRING with the abuses to the woman and children and old people that die as result of contamination in their bodies. It is not any different than any other CRIME or CRIMINAL! SIMPLE!
An inspiration to everyone, especially celebrities. Instead of going around getting wasted and arrested for DUI, celebrities could use their fame and influence to do GOOD things, like Mr. Olmos.
Not really surprising since he is a big actor in the Hispanic community. I heard him speak Spanish more than I have English or a combination of both since I was a kid. He should of done this vid with his Colonial military outfit :P.
Surprising to me because I am relatively young and have only seen him in his Battlestar Galactica *role. That, and because I could never (until now, of course) tell his ethnic background.
LOL you didn't know he was Hispanic? One of his comments he had of playing Adama on the show was "Its nice to see Chicanos in space". Even I was surprised when I saw him playing a lead role in a Sci fi series. You don't really see Hispanics playing lead roles in sci fi series very often.
Again, I agree. A Hispanic person in space is just another example of how Battlestar Galactica breaks the mold of traditional sci-fi, and drama. Another huge example is the number of strong female characters (Starbuck, 6, 8, 3, Roslin, Racetrack, Kat, Tory, Helena Kane, D...).
Just for its invention and lack of convention, Battlestar Galactica has flipped the world of sci-fi upside down, into something dramatic, believable, and remarkable.
I also notice how BSG has a central storyline. Unlike the many Star Trek series, which every episode is pretty much filler; every episode of BSG sees the plot progressing.
Mr. Olmos used to be very involved in Latino causes and probably still is. Right now he's probably most thought of as Admiral Adama in Battlestar Galactica but he will he's been involved in many many causes. Look up his website.
I think it is great that Edward James Olmos is speaking up for Vieques. I also think it is great when Puertoricans speak up from immigrants. Latinos need to stick up for each other and not knock each other all the time. QUE VIVA LA RAZA!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Seriously Irvives get a clue. Bombs kill people. I was in the army, if bombs aren't doing damage the bombs are relaly failing badly. You need to understand doctors and scientists can be bought, especially American ones. I live near shoalwater bay another american testin ground bomds are definately doing damage to people and other fauna.
A scientific group, including doctors and scientists from all over the world, concluded that there was no health threat from the bombings (military practicing sessions) near Vieques. The bombings happened 100 miles off the coast.
If you guys have a political goal, go for it. Speak out. This is America (Puerto Rico is America!) and you're free to talk...but don't tell lies about the Navy.

Probably my favorite actor for his roll in Battlestar Galactica.
Its surprising to hear him speak Spanish, and impressive. It adds to my respect for him.

Good statements, but why is it surprising that he can speak Spanish? He is a proud Mexican-American.

It was surprising to hear him speak Spanish because I'm used to hearing him speak in English.

Puerto rico should not become a state so the US should stop trying to make it a state
kenneth1501 4 years ago
If it becomes a state of u.s.a. it will be a blessing for the U.S.A. (Puerto Rico means "rich port"... and we are rich in many ways)
