those who bitch about MB build quality are full of shit, I drive a 2002 S430 the car is 8 years old, 200k never had a problem, the only things I had to change was oil, tires, filters, and break pads...
PS: Even a Maybach/Rolls-Royce in the hands of a fool can be unreliable
Bullshit. All this talk about newer MB's falling apart is nothing more than a myth put forth by stupid ass Lexus fanboys. How long a car lasts depends not only on the build quality but how owners treat and drive it. It's safe to say that the newer MB's are built to a high standard and will last just as long as their older contemporaries.
I own two W126 Mercedes, and I hate Lexus. But I will agree that the newer Mercedes are just not as sturdy as the older ones. Who cares if the motor gets to 500K miles if the chassis falls apart first, or the electronics go out to lunch......
The older Mercedes' used heavier steel which made them feel like tanks. Newer Mercedes' (and cars in general) use lightweight, yet sturdier steel. This accounts for the perceived loss of "solidity". A modern MB is well-built and a high quality car. There is no doubt about that. People are just overrating the old Benzes so much given the quality downfall the firm experienced in the mid 1990s to early 2000s. My brother has owned a new C300 since early 2009 and the car has been flawless & solid.
Which cars from that era don't have rust problems? Especially if they're in a 4-climate-zone environment. Electrical problems? The stuff MB made in the mid-1990s to early 2000s were known for suffering from some electrical gremlins. The current MBs they're making now are back to the bulletproofness of the past. My brother's C300 has been flawless. And my brother places great emphasis on reliability and bought his new C class given the great experiences some friends had with it.
Perhaps the prettiest coupé that Mercedes has ever built. Of course much more elegant than its bulkier successors. A future classic, indeed. A huge masterpiece of design and mechanics.
Thanks for the history...Forgot Bruno designed it.
Mine is a 500 SEC built in May of 82 but technically a Euro 1983 500 SEC in Magaanese Brown with an air bag & antilock brakes. The was ahead of its time & drives like a dream!

How's that Toyota/Lexus floor mat unintentional acceleration working out?
NitekMuscle 2 years ago 3
What is that supposed to mean? It's all due to stupid owners who don't understand the concept of a floor mat clip.
