@Mrgoodguy99 If the word has great potential to cause harm, I would say its use should be restricted. But words are not static things. They can be molded into benign variants, and can be used to educate and enlighten. So... there are circumstances were it would not be wrong to use such a word.
I do not believe it is ever right to use these words in a manner in which it can reasonably be expected that they would result in great pain. But there are other ways these words can be employed—different contexts, different intents and meanings. These variants can be used without an absolute moral condemnation. I would add to this category words used to refer back to themselves. As in... when discussing the various meanings of the word "nigger".
Brilliant video. Very insightful and, I hope, helpful to taking away some of the toxicity. Good job, premed. Good job. I don't think I can top that, but that's not necessary, is it?
Thank you for tagging me! I might do my response about Australian equivalents when I do it.... there are dehumanising words that have been used for our indigenous people and homosexuals (the N word generally hasn't been used here and 'faggot' is also not widespread.) Enjoyed your passionate delivery.
Btw in theory you and Variablast are right, of course...The n-word after all is ONLY a word...BUT that theory depends on the idea an unspoken acknowledgement that the word will be defused by use...
Unfortunately, the truth is that there are a lot of covert racists love nothing better than to subvert such a well meaning strategies.
For example, your video about the bomber group who had a dog with the name, do you see how this could be done there?
@2bsirius To my knowledge, I have never used that disclaimer in order to diffuse the power inherent in words, I believe in their power. I do not discount the dangers inherent of releasing the pathogen, or discount the inevitability of it being weoponized and deployed by those inclined to do so. I do make a judgement call, that we are now at a time where the potential benefits of opening Pandora's box outweigh the costs. (more)
@2bsirius Coincidentally, the news item today concerning Dr. Laura seems to have demonstrated that many agree; there have been numerous suggestions that we open up a national dialog concerning the N-word.
Finally, while I love variablast, we disagree on far more than we agree on. He's been willing to move in my direction, and I toward his, but we see very different worlds out there. :P
@variablast The comments from morganbath & gothatfunk just gave me a "periodic table like" idea. Chart out geographically how these type of words differ. We have a wide distribution of folks from different parts of the world on YT, it would be interesting to learn more, and you would make it entertaining. Besides, Americentrism is a pejorative.
Maybe its a cultural thing, but cunt can be applied to everyone in my country of birth (England). However "dick" is usually only used on men. But I agree with the basic point of the video.
here in the UK, the word Cunt is inclusive. it doesn't denote anything female, and is more often used against men than women. it is a more aggregious slander than being called a Dick, but more or less used in similar circumstances.
@premed2 pussy is almost never used, at least not within earshot of me. its a word i use, and when i do, its usually met with bemusement.
in the UK, they are obviously aware of the american connotation of "faggot", but here a faggot is a kind of food you can buy at a fish n chips shop. a fag is a cigarette. just about the worst word they use towards homosexuals is Pouf. gay guys don't seem to mind it much either.
<3 enjoyed this, don't have anything to add...

For some, "atheist" is a sabre word.

@BurntEngineOil That's true.

but sometimes you do want to cause pain, and maybe its justified.
But I do agree. The use should be restricted.

The three words you cite in this video are ways to strip flesh off bones [the metaphoric disclaimer is no defense IMHO]...

@2bsirius
the metaphorical disclaimer?

@premed2
The "it's only a word" disclaimer...

PEOPLE!
HOW DO THESE TYPE OF WORDS DIFFER IN YOUR COUNTRY?

I too spawn from the UK, Other colloquialisms for gay men include "shirt-lifter" and "battyman". Gay females are referred to as "carpet munchers".
