I went to Kyle (Rowena) Elementary too! Well, back in 70-72' My 1st grade teacher was Ms. Apple and 2nd grade teacher was Mrs. King (the stereotypical gray-haired horned- rimmed glasses, 60's something strict lady),..oh but all of the fond memories!
I grew up and still live in Portage ....'82 grad...went to Kyle also...it was without a doubt the best place to grow up in the 70's....lived in central manor....remember Skips Drive-In ?
I left portage back in 1985 but there's recently a part of my mind that keeps wandering back there even though i had completely forgotten the place living in the west all these years. But i was there when that place was fun. I went to Kyle, and Aylesworth, and was there when they built the new port high school out on airport rd. Wow those street names came from a very rusty drawer in the far back corner of my brain. Portage will always be inside of me.
Come this summer or so I'm going to post another video with updated pictures in it. SO if anyone is interested, keep your eyes out for it. I'll post it as a video response as well.
the town USED to be nice..now its full of corrupt cops abandoned houses graffiti and shyty trailor parx...the skatepark is destroyed!the high school is full of dumb teachers and a cop named troy williams....hes a bitch... dont go to portage its garbage
Dang. I use to live there until around 1990. Lived on Blake Road, 2748 to be exact. House burned down, new house there now, right across from the cemetary. Love that town, still visit when I get a chance
Thanks for the beautiful memories! Portage was the best time of my life! Well, back in the early 70's. I lived on Lakewood (corner of Saturn). There used to be a bike trail there,..closer to Hamstrom. THis was back in 1972 though when I went to Rowena Kyle Elementary. We used to go to Ogden Dunes with my aunt in the summer and see the lake horizon. So nice!! Thanks again!
I am glad to hear that especially after seeing so many posts that say otherwise about the Portage area. But yes, Ogden Dunes is in a world all to itself. I think Oprah Winfrey has a house there too.
I grew up in Portage. Although I have no intentions of moving back there, it was a good place to grow up and live. In addition, the cost of living is extremely affordable compared to the west coast (CA).
It's right behind the beach in Odgen Dunes, which is a part of Portage, lots of trails back there. One of the pictures is of the Prairie Duneland Trail, which goes about 16 miles.
I'm 14 and I went to Kyle too. 3rd-5th

Ogden Dunes rocks.... It is as if that area is on its own time zone... You can go out at midnight without a problem. Up there it is really nice!

I lived in Portage until last December and I never thought I'd say this but I'd give anything to go back.

My daughter lives in Portage, and she has yet to send me scenery pictures like this. I've had to resort to watching You tube.
