Brian-Thank you so much for your suggestions. We have done a some swimming, and he loves it so hopefully that will help. He is now 9 days post cast, still not willing to put weight on his leg while walking but has used it in other ways such as climbing into his booster seat and crawling. I think this part is harder than the cast because we would love to have him back to running around! But as you said, we are trying not to rush and just let him go at his own pace.
I run a group for perthes disease on yahoo. Many of the kids go threw casting there. Try not to rush. It can take an average of 2 days per week in cast for the waling to come around. One thing that helps a ton is getting them in a pool. If he is in water near waist deep it will take a lot of weight off the legs and help him gain strength and muscle control with little pain. Warm water tub soaks, letting him play for a while will help loosen the knees up. I hope this helps. Brian
