It is a song about fighting for the civil rights of African-Americans (and I'm sure this also applies to all minority groups, too) but it can, like all good songs, be interpreted to a way that directly affects you; Perhaps you have felt a bit discriminated against, be it your age, gender, social-economic group, culture etc
