Ouch, that was a quick reaction all right. Too bad it wasn't a successful one though, big dittos to the pilot for trying. I'm sure i would have shit bricks in his place. And for those of you who didn't notice, watch the tail rotor very closely and you will see it lose rotation as the tail moves off screen at around 0:11. Definitely loss of power not a damned wind, these things cost too damned much to make a stupid mistake like that.

I don't know if anyone got hurt, but the pilot reacted very quick to the failure at this level, immediately cutting the power to the main rotor. Thats about all you can do if the little tail rotor goes.

his rear rotor failed, you can do anything you will crash if you are not heading into a stong head wind, if your rear rotor fails while flying the helicopter is pretty much fucked, even the best pilot couldnt land that, there is too much torque rotation on the helicopters body and nothing to counter it.

The engine turning the main rotor causes the fuselage to want to spin in the opposite direction. The tail rotor is there to compensate for that tendency. If it lost effectiveness at that low of a speed, it can obviously be devastating to the aircraft.

The tail rotor turns the aircraft left and right and what happened here there was probably something that happened with the electrical and it made the tail rotor turn in the opposite direction and the pilot lost control. Poor guy :(

No. It is to stabalize because if they had just the top rotor spinning then the body would just spin wildly out of control so the tail rotor pushes the body the opposite way with equal force.

That is not a CH-124 and also not a bridge of a Iroquois class. The date on the camera is 07-05-02 ,where did you see 2003, Feb 27 ? Even more, the CH-124 which crashed on the bridge of the HMCS Iroquois didn't sunk on the water like this video.
